Maps are visually lovely, and then that they represent space and place, that is lovely to see, too. It is so whimsical, the words and lines and colors. A map dream: at a desk, a test, know the states of a country confused, like a puzzle...
I have that exact same great world atlas! I lost concentration on the video becuase the music was so relaxing but it was like you plucked part of my world out from behind you when I saw that. I use it all the time, mostly to rest on when writing but that was an uncanny moment!
my goodness, no way?! That's crazy! I love that atlas, seriously. I've had it ever since I was a child, I think it used to be my grandmother's. Oh the hours I've spent looking through it.
Not for some deep and insightful reason...I just like the way they look.
But my friend has this huge issue with maps, because he doesn't like people knowing that he doesn't know what he's doing or where he's going. When we went to London for the day, he refused to use a map and made me go and ask for directions in an American accent, so it looked like we had more of an excuse to be lost. It was ridiculous.
hah, that's so funny, he made you put on an American accent?! Although I do feel like that sometimes when I get a little lost in London (and I'm trying to get somewhere) I feel a bit silly asking for directions!
I do put on American accents sometimes for funsies, if I'm alone and bored in London (usually waiting at a train station cafe) I'll order in an American accent. Hah, I'm such a nerd!
Yeah, he kept pushing me towards this man to go and ask for directions, and then when I finally agreed he was like, "Don't use your normal voice...be American, so he won't think we're stupid for not knowing our way round our own capital city".
And you're not that much of a nerd...I've done that too. Motorway service stations are good places to do it, because the chances of you going to the same one and being recognised are very slim.
That is an awesome collection! There was this class at my school about mapmaking that I really wanted to take, but it was at the same time as a different class and didn't work out and I was sad :(
Well, you do have a bunch of them!i bet you could cover all your walls:0)i like them too!just seeing all those cities i've never heard before, picturing how people live there and then again thinking there's just too many of us....lol
I really like maps of places that don't exist. The little ones at the beginning of fantasy novels especially. I like to stare and imagine what would be there.
oh my goodness, yes! I loved the maps and illustrations in the Lord of the Rings books especially. It was amazing to track the adventure across those maps as you read the books.
i love maps to. i have a bunch of antique ones. i always wanted to wallpaper a bathroom with them ;-) i think we should do that on the commune. i'll wallpaper your bathroom with my antique maps
you know what, don't know if i ever told you how incredibly special you are. nobody is like you. <3
I would absolutely love that for the commune! We need somewhere to display these wonderful maps! I love the idea of doing for for the bathroom. A friend of mine decorated her bathroom with hundreds of pictures of tattoos, it was amazing!
I love a good Atlas, seriously. I can sit there looking through them for hours. I need a frame for that map actually, but I can't afford one, nor do I have the wall space! When I get my own place, it's having it's own wall. <3
When I were a lad I found a treasure trove of dusty old maps in a skip, they were long out of date and of strange and magical countries that I'd never heard of. You should have found that skip.
big whoops for califonia ^_^

I could cover my walls with them easily! I love imagining the places and the people. I really like the abstract shapes of the land.

I love all maps, but there's nothing like a dusty old map with the shapes of continents slightly off. <3
