The argument of what constitutes 'black metal' is an endless, pointless exchange taken up by pedantic, close minded elitists desperate to show some kind of monopoly on musical definition. If anyone doesn't yet understand or agree with this, then please shut up and observe the idiots who won't, until you get well tired of such arguments as well.
@Havoc1025 Fuck those bands. Fuck ambience. Next you'll be saying Black Metal HAS to be Satanic and you have to be some stupid worthless Norwegian piece of shit to make Black Metal. Fuck Norway.
First of all, none of those bands are black metal. They influenced black metal yeah, but all of those bands are technically thrash metal. Ambiance is what makes black metal unique among the musical genres. Black metal doesnt have to be satanic, or Norwegian to be good. This band however, is more like a more distorted/blackened version of thrash metal, not black metal like Mayhem, Bathory or Imperial Crypt.
althought black metal band..i really like it too much..COBALT has something different from other black metal bands i hate to listen...they are really heavy and sounds good!
and because I have Aspergers.. i tend to have extrem, ely sensitive and acut ehearing.. I just find it far more pleasing to my ears then most BM. But hen... I also am one of those who doesnt understand the need to go around and psot onmusic I dislike how much I dislike it, ya know?
Well, while there are certainly individual bands that stand out from the norm in all genres, most Death Metal bands I listen toom, the guitar work is far more precise and complex and technical then most ( though hardly ALL ) black metal.
But be it tech death like Fleshmould, or simple old school like Bolt THrower to any of the various types in between, I general i find it far more difficult to play Death then Black.
Really? You think this is black metal. The riffs are pathetic. Try listening to Emperor or Enslaved if you want feeling in your riffs and not just blast beats. Although, the 2 main blast beat bands are Mayhem and Immortal, but those bands have great riffs too. I have no idea what black metal you listen to, but this band is god awful.
I would have to say to each there own. And I have listened to both of the bands you listed and was not impressed. And as a musician who values actual musical ability, and a variety of sound ( which is why I tend to find most traditional BM laughable ) I would have to disagree with you. But then...as long as I enjoy what I listen too, and you enjoy your stuff, what does it matter?
I dont know how you could call this band god awfull and then say Mayhem have great riffs....they have been a subpar band for years now. I do agree with Emperor/Enslaved having some great riffs (especially Mardraum - Beyond The Within)
I dont like new mayhem, only DMDS and Deathcrush, because Euronymous made mayhem what it was. Dark Funeral and Marduk are 2 other bands that put this shit to shame.
well, Opus Nocturne was good...but those two bands don't do much for me. Don't get me wrong, i love Swedish BM, but bands like Sacramentum, Vinterland, Watain, Dissection provide more variety and quality
@Havoc1025 Pretty sure this isnt supposed to sound like dark funeral or marduk. If thats what you want to hear, listen to that. Cobalt isnt even a black metal band.

Wow... this is Black Metal I can get into... very very nice. Actually focusing on riffs and decent drumming makes a huge difference.
Proof that Black Metalists CAN actually be musicians too! ( just that most never try)
