Andrei Gavrilov is the best musican we have - in my opinion. The extraordinary is that he can play great Bach, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Scriabin and many more. And you always can hear: intelligence and heart is a great combination for a musician.
This recording production was not quite satisfying Andrei told me, 'cause BBC did a good beginning but in ongoing work it was some kind of wired and inconsequential. But anyway: great interpretation of Gavrilovs part!!!
In each divinity we shall not grasp the meaning of the inner thoughts of ultimate peak of art. I am me, myself who could not understand an amazing feat of powerr. The lament and philosphy from this fugue holds too much emotions in my heart, i could not explain with words. This is J.S Bach we're talking about, this fugue, yes this fugue is an music/harmony created from his mind to define logic.
beautiful performance. i disagree with a.g.'s assumptions that bach composed it 'for the glory of germany in those days'. from what i know of master bach, it would probably be for the "glory of God and Jesus" not germany.
Oh, what a wonderful sound! This is the most colorful Bach I have ever heard, goes beyond Richter's meditative WTC and brings novelty. There is so much tenderness in Gavrilov's Bach, he shows us a colorful, sensuous and yet serious Bach, who is not any more a 'Baroque' composer but eternal. Gavrilov is one of our greatest pianists, and even more so, one of our greatest musicians!

@z1Amii "So yesterday, that is, Tuesday evening at 7, in the
Imperial-and-Royal Opera House I made my entry into the world! . . . My
friends and colleagues spread themselves through the hall to listen to
opinions and criticisms. Tselinski can tell you how little
fault-finding there was; only Hube overheard more. Some lady said: 'Too
bad the young man is so poorly dressed.' If that is all the fault
anybody found . . . then I have no need to worry!" --F. Chopin

I think he would take a different approach after listening to this analysis.

I agree-Germany was not what it is today.
Yet whatever he says about a P§F is valid for ANY of them.
He talks for nothing.
