@hamkinnes Queequeg isn't Maori.  Melville wrote him as being from an island inhabited by a tribe most likely meant to parallel Fijians or Polynesians somewhere in the south-west Pacific, called Rokovoko, which is fictional. The creators of the mini-series the clips are from probably just chose a random South Seas-looking tattoo pattern for the actor, seeing as how many tribes in the region used them.

An excellent production of a classic tale of epic proportions and absolute truths. get it at your local outlet for next to nicks!! I have it on DVD and it rocks! Stewart and Levine are great, and the Australasian character actors give it some solid flavor.
