That was wrong! When you close the trunk you need to do it with both hands spread out just a little on each side, from the rear, inorder that the trumk goes down evenly! I was specifically instructed by the dealer to do this! Someone that I know who previously owned a Saturn Sky - identical car, also said to use both hands.
@saxsalsa Not necessarily true. I've been pushing down on the buttress pin area since I got the Solstice in 08. That area is reinforced so you can do it that way. You are not supposed to push down on the "humps".
Personally I wouldn't want to push down on any painted area of the car as that will cause marring over time.
Well Im about to buy a GXP used but yesterday I went to check the and the ownwer wasnt at home so I had to admire the car from outside of the house. I own a 206cc Peugeot with hardtop folding top so I checked the car on magazines and online reviews and got very concerned about the top issue cuz it seems that the reviewers got paid to complain about it and my actual car has a full electrical system so I only sit push a button and wait. THIS VID AND THE BAG IDEAS HELPED ME A LOT THANKS !!! =)
I'm buying a black solstice tomorrow, and I had heard that the top was 'such a bitch', so thanks for posting this and showing me that those people are morons :)
Congratz!!!! hopefully mine will be black too!!! Im going to check tomorrow a black GXP I actually have a 206cc coupe convertible and a dodge neon SRT4 love ragtops and turbos too I got the feeling Im going to adore this car!!!!!!
@ThamesStreethooker Your welcome! I hope you are enjoying the heck out of your Solstice! Mine is my daily driver and I wouldn't have it any other way.
omg! that's looks so easy!! i have a dodge shadow convertible and it takes forever! you have to unzip the back wind and undo all the latches. putting it back up is an even bigger pain because the zipper usually make my finger hurt really bad! but i guess that's the price of an older convertible.
Never had a problem with mine. I also bought 2 duffel bags at Wal-Mart (you have 44x10x12 to work with if the top is down) and went to the beach with no problem....about 10 bucks each. I've gone to Sam's club and spent 180 bucks on groceries with the top up...and a passenger:) Also I'm 6 foot 3, 220 pounds and fit perfectly (another 2 inches and I would have problems).. LOVE this car.
@BanditJedi Exactly. I was looking around for one of these and in my city it seems like they're really tough to come by. I saw a couple of Saturn Sky's but I really really don't like the styling on those. Here's hoping! & happy motoring :-)
I sure can..I have one that fits towards the rear of the car right behind the top, no problem and the duffel bag wasn't some custom made job for $100. Nah, it was 9.99 at Wally World.
@adweigle First of all, dumb ass, looks are subjective. The Miata is the best selling roadster in the world and finally the Miata handles better, is faster, lighter, has perfect 50/50 weight distribution and more after market parts available. Educate yourself before you open your mouth and look like a retard. :D
@devilledevil98 Awww, sorry to make you mad Miata fanboi. Actually, you are the one who needs to do some research it seems. To address your areas in order, 1. 2006 Solstice sold 19,710, Miata sold 16,897. These are US sales. 2007 Solstice sold 16,779, Miata sold 15,075. 2. The Miata hits 0-60 in 6.5s, the Solstice GXP in 5.5s. The Solstice also has 50/50 weight distribution. But again, you're right, Miata>Solstice. Happy ricing!
I've had a Sky redline for almost a year . The top has never been a problem and I wouldn't sacrifice the looks and performance because of a manual top.
I put the top up sitting in the car as I have come to a stop. Once outside the car after its locked up I snap the wings down before I leave to go where ever I'm going. Takes about the same time to put the top back up as I have shown putting it down.
I'm 6'3" and I find it comfortable enough with the seat all the way back. I don't have the power seats though and I have heard they sit higher due to the motors.
If you buy the Coupe then you don't have a convertible top. The hardtop on the Coupe does require manual removal by a recommended two people, but many people have done it with only one.
