John had to pretty much go through the same thing but not being a Belmont destroyed his own life essence as i'm sure Jonathon Morris did as well. Still showing that really only a Belmont can bring out the whip's true power and here we see Richter the last Belmont before Julius returned the Whip to the Belmont's during the battle in 1999.

I just beat him a few minutes ago. Nebula is definitely the best weapon for this fight. It nearly automaticly aims for Richter and reaches nearly the edge of the screen. So there's no problem dodging Richter's whip while whipping his ass in return.
There's a very easy way to beat this boss without damage or subweapons, but since I can't vid, I can't show you. It just has to do with jumping over and getting behind Richter at the right time, attacking his back, then repeating the process. If he uses grand cross, you have about 2 seconds' warning to get out of the way. Very simple, but if you played the game like me then it's a pain in the ass to kill him because i did it before any of the late-game paintings.
I found that the best way to damage the boss and make the battle go by the quickest is to use "Dark powered" items eg. the cream pie, paper airplane, Jet black whip. The cream pies definitely take him down the fastest but they're risky to use, I use the paper airplanes so I have a little distance on him in case anything goes wrong.

Now this is how Richter should have been in Symphony of the Night. I mean he only had 400 hp. Malachi have more hp than that. Also his whip barley did any damage.

The first I didn't use subweapons and I was using Nebula whip. it really helps cause the whip is longer and is homing attack. But I had to use like 5 potions and it took 10+ minutes or so. The next time I came in with my Miser Ring with max gold and I used that jet black whip...

@MrLittleSlugger I got both so it depends. In DOS The unlockables include Julius mode which will let you change from Julius Belmont to Yoko and to Alucard the hero of Symphony of the Night. POR has Bonus Characters like Richter Belmont with Maria and that is always my favorite duo to use. or the Lecarde sisters but in either case it depends on you .
@komakoma876 try this challenge: Hard mode Lvl 1 only. no weapons no sub weapons either. just punches. THat's tough and fun. I finished this challenge without a single hit. Cause one hit will take you out quick.
Thankfully I leveled up to 40 with the Jet Black whip + Offensive Form, I was dishing out AT LEAST 104 DMG (112 with Offensive form). 3 Potions, 5 High potions and forever later, I finally managed to beat him.
@deadmadnessguy A few hits? He kills you in three hits! However, he on the other hand has 5000 HP, and takes anywhere from around 40 to hundreds of hits to beat (103 hits in my case). Oh, and to hit him, you have to be within his attack range. And you can't move directly before, during, or after your attack animation. Which is very slow. What about this fight is fair enough to justify not Action Replaying? Granted, I'm determined that someday I'll beat this legitimately, but it's all luck.
@ShadowsofYesterday I tried my technique again and it didn't go so well as i remembered but I still did it. however I did this fight when I was using action replay I only took 2 hits, one was when he suddenly used the axe and the other was the first time he used grand cruz and couldn't get out of the way in time. the strategy does take a while though.
@deadmadnessguy Trying the stomping technique, you are able to avoid his attacks easier while dealing out more damage, though on occasion he'll decide to be funny and throw an axe. Usually his whip won't hit you, although on some rare instances when he uses it at exactly the wrong instant it'll still hit you. Ultimately, while these occurrences are rare, it takes so long to kill him that you'll get hit enough times sooner or later anyway. Maybe it just takes more skill than what I've got.
@ShadowsofYesterday try kicking him a bit more in the back and the axe will less likely hit you. I have fought him again on a new game+ using the jet black whip and a miser ring(with max money to get an attack boost 99) I was at pretty low level because I rushed through the game and I beat him easily. you're reach is just as far as his and he doesn't duck to often so i could attack pretty quickly.
I find the Angels Sword is the most effective against Richter. If you use strength stance you can get 120 damage on him in one attack. Ideally you duck then attack when he uses the cross.
lol, when i first fought the mem, i went for less than 8 secs. for sure. Then later on, to beat him, i stomped on his head for the whole battle till he gave up. funny cuz now i look for ways to make this guy harder to beat, but really fun overall =) lol
i got a good strategy for this guy. use nebulae + offensife form + hit richter in the air + little to no damage. it's a noobs way of killing him, but it works. hope this helps! :D
No, the song that plays is "Bloodlines Bequeathed", which is a remix of Opposing Bloodlines/Divine Bloodlines a.k.a. Richter's Theme. Simon's theme is totally different. I'm 100% sure it is.
Simon's theme is a bonus track in this one. The battle against Richter is "Bloodlines Bequeathed" which is a remix of "Bloodlines" and "Blood Relations'" from Rondo of Blood and SotN respectively
@punkband14 I can assure you that it's Richter's Theme i've played this game many of times and I've played Rondo, Dracula X and SOTN this is defiantly his theme.

@mojavis This was the whips memory not richters fighting memory. The whip was using Richters memory of being used. but the whip is the fastest weapon used here. when the memory tries to use subweapons, everyting slows down so the whip can try to remember how to switch between subweapons and firing the weapon.
yeah but his attacks all take MEGA damage.... in Symphony he had more moves but his whip didnt take out (as an example with my file) 210 HEALTH with his whip!!! And all the others take like a 100 damage from you. So yeah, I thought he was dumbed down too, but then I played the game. :P
Richter is the hardest boss of the game without any doubt.He moves so fast, and his moves are almost unpredictable.I usually keep a loong distance and hit him with Shuriken, I guess everyone has their own strategy
Jonathan in PoR looks kinda like Edward Elric from FullMetal Alchemist. I SAID HE LOOKS KINDA LIKE HIM OK PEOPLE. I mean the red clothing and the blodnish hair just matches.
after u battle and kill medusa keep going and ull come into a room with the jet black whip in it. personally i used the vampire killer. the crappy version of it extra challenge cause it only does 20 damage roughly
@Shadowserg Kinda tricky on where they put the Jet black Whip. When I was looking for it I was like "WHERE THE F*** IS IT?!" Didn't realise you needed to beat the boss to get the whip. xD
It can only be wielded fully without consequence by the Belmont clan. other strong people can wield it but they forfeit their soul after excessive use. That's why you have to fight Richters soul to use it. That's also why John never showed his son how to unlock it.
i just beat him in hard mode max lvl 1 and its a long and boring fight. i also used jet black whip and cream pie subweapon( they both have dark properties effective against this boss)

Anyway i beated him with the mastered shurikens and the cream pie (after the shurikens depleted my mp).
Why shurikens? because you can hit him 3 to 5 times in a single throw.

I have fought him again on a new game+ using the jet black whip and a miser ring(with max money to get an attack boost 99) I was at pretty low level because I rushed through the game and I beat him easily. you're reach is just as far as his and he doesn't duck to often so i could attack pretty quickly.

I find the Angels Sword is the most effective against Richter. If you use strength stance you can get 120 damage on him in one attack. Ideally you duck then attack when he uses the cross.

lol, when i first fought the mem, i went for less than 8 secs. for sure. Then later on, to beat him, i stomped on his head for the whole battle till he gave up. funny cuz now i look for ways to make this guy harder to beat, but really fun overall =) lol

I use the same trick with the whip, but I lost 54 HP, and i didn't realize this great final attack, with the technique lizard. Fantastic.

i got a good strategy for this guy. use nebulae + offensife form + hit richter in the air + little to no damage. it's a noobs way of killing him, but it works. hope this helps! :D

No, the song that plays is "Bloodlines Bequeathed", which is a remix of Opposing Bloodlines/Divine Bloodlines a.k.a. Richter's Theme. Simon's theme is totally different. I'm 100% sure it is.

Simon's theme is a bonus track in this one. The battle against Richter is "Bloodlines Bequeathed" which is a remix of "Bloodlines" and "Blood Relations'" from Rondo of Blood and SotN respectively

@mojavis This was the whips memory not richters fighting memory. The whip was using Richters memory of being used. but the whip is the fastest weapon used here. when the memory tries to use subweapons, everyting slows down so the whip can try to remember how to switch between subweapons and firing the weapon.

yeah but his attacks all take MEGA damage.... in Symphony he had more moves but his whip didnt take out (as an example with my file) 210 HEALTH with his whip!!! And all the others take like a 100 damage from you. So yeah, I thought he was dumbed down too, but then I played the game. :P

Richter is the hardest boss of the game without any doubt.He moves so fast, and his moves are almost unpredictable.I usually keep a loong distance and hit him with Shuriken, I guess everyone has their own strategy

after u battle and kill medusa keep going and ull come into a room with the jet black whip in it. personally i used the vampire killer. the crappy version of it extra challenge cause it only does 20 damage roughly

It can only be wielded fully without consequence by the Belmont clan. other strong people can wield it but they forfeit their soul after excessive use. That's why you have to fight Richters soul to use it. That's also why John never showed his son how to unlock it.

i just beat him in hard mode max lvl 1 and its a long and boring fight. i also used jet black whip and cream pie subweapon( they both have dark properties effective against this boss)
