Just as Korean war and Viet war was a boon to Japan's economy after WWII, Vietnam was Korea's boon. While the war was a selfish one, it's their sacrifice that gave badly needed funds and support from US that enabled the basis for rebuilding the country. And while VC's had many American POW's, they didn't keep or capture one Korean soldier alive.

@1452tab Frankly speaking, there is no need for such hostility. My father served in the Vietnam War as a Korean Marine, and I myself am a Korean soldier (that is, Army). We by no means celebrate wholeheartedly the killing that was done in Vietnam; we acknowledge it for what it was. Sending aid to the Americans in exchange for money and military equipment. But that said, you are entirely wrong about our contributions since. All of our deployments since have been either PKOs or humanitarian.

Losses: NVA + VC = 243+ killed, 2 captured (1 battalion commander). ROK = 15 killed, 33 wounded. ROK victory. After the battle, 3 flamethrowers, 5 antitank rocket launchers, 2 machine guns, 28 rifles, 100 pieces of dynamite, and over 6,000 rounds of ammunition were captured by the South Koreans.

Just as Korean war and Viet war was a boon to Japan's economy after WWII, Vietnam was Korea's boon. We by no means celebrate wholeheartedly the killing that was done in Vietnam; we acknowledge it for what it was. Sending aid to the Americans in exchange for money and military equipment. Karate's origin was the mixture of martial art of Ryukyu Island (now Okinawa) and Chinese martial arts, created by Sakugawa who is from Okinawa and went study abroad to China and learned Chinese martial arts.
Then for many years Karate was formed to today's Karate.

My dad was a North Korean escapee that landed in South Korea during the Korean war, and he became a ROK ARMY training woth the ROKMC. The the Vietnam war started and my dad was shipped off. Thank goodness my father is still alive, even though he killed alot of Viet Congs. The only injury my father took was a mine blowing up. cutting a slight peice of his ear, but the medic had the ear peice and sewed it back up. Go ROK ARMY AND GO ROKMC AND OOHRAH!

Let me ask you this. Do any of you know about the Battle of Tra Binh Dong? it was the Republic of Korea (south Korea) vs the NVA and Viet Cong. Strength: NVA + VC = 2,400+. ROK = 294. Losses: NVA + VC = 243+ killed, 2 captured (1 battalion commander). ROK = 15 killed, 33 wounded. ROK victory. After the battle, 3 flamethrowers, 5 antitank rocket launchers, 2 machine guns, 28 rifles, 100 pieces of dynamite, and over 6,000 rounds of ammunition were captured by the South Koreans.

During the Park Chung-Hee adminstration, we sent troops to aid the U.S in the Vietnam war. In return, we get our large sums of money. In reality, Japan used our war, yes the Korean war to help them recover post-WW2 economy. While we were busy killing our brothers, they stood back, did nothing but gain profit.

The reason why Korean participated in this war was to get the money from US to rebuild their fucked up country. They killed so many innocent civilians there, and left 5000 of LaiDaihan. @NoNoSpice I can't say I'm proud of the Koreans killing civilians but the Koreans hardly got their asses kicked by the VC. The VC were instructed to avoid engaging Koreans at all costs unless if victory was 100% certain, and the Koreans had a kill death ratio of around 15:1, and no that's not counting civilian deaths.
