Ok i have a 325i e36 BMW from 1991 and i would love to do this on it but i am not sure if ti will work do i have to change any fuse or something else, can u sow me what do i have to do to the ignition?or is just the red wire from the ignition that has to be cut and linked to the lighter?

All that work you did chopping wires and splicing into circuits and you could of changed the inhibitor switch and had it start normally .

A day or two working out what wires are where or 15 - 30 minutes changing a switch.

The vehicles made with this type of starting have safety features. This setup can be start at anytime. even while driving , making this 5 dollar fix a potential $2000.00 dollar problem. If this was to be engaged while driving, the starter & flywheel would shave the gears off of each other, making him wish he spent his money on an ignition switch.

It's a BMW. If you cant afford to fix them right you certainly can't afford to own them.

@BRAVITS no he cant. the problem he was having was the wire going into the ignition that goes to the starting motor and instead of hooking it up back to the ignition he put it to the cig lighter. therefor key has to be on for the computer to read the car is on but the cig lighter tells the coils to spark the plugs.

Not that I'm an expert but just like a normal key when you turn the key you are putting it to ignition not turning it all the way the lighter only for fills the final turn, your ignition key for most cars has three clicks 1. Accessory 2. Ignition 3. Starter. And think back in time cars once did have push button start eg 1929 dodge da had a pull start bit by 1935 it had a push button.

nice. I did mine in 2003 on my lincoln and the only way to start the car would be to turn the key and hold it in the start position and press the lighter with the other hand. Basically ,the cigarette lighter doesnt do anything at all unless that key is turned.
