  • no if it had a 4.6L it would be a gt. I said clone because i added the hood scoop, had the mach 460 sound, mach 1 front grill, saleen rims, upgraded brakes, GT bumper, full true dual exhaust, 8.8 rear end and everything prepped for a 5.4L swap before I sold it. It definitely was a clone.

  • @wattym Most of that doesn't make it a GT clone, its just an assembly of various parts, that you could have ordered on a stock V6 when it was new. The Mach One Appearance package was available on all hardtops, as was Mach 460 sound. The only GT part is the bumper. Its still a VERY nice car though.

  • i personally got my bumper off of a wrecked red gt, i just had it repainted. they have them on ebay sometimes. It was probably the greatest upgrade i did to my mustang because it just made it look a lot nicer.

  • i got a 97, ill post a response, i used to have a 96, with true duals and 40 series. My 97 v6 mjustang now has, a BBK CAI, h pipe with catbacks, and im lookin at super 44s, i had 40s on my old mustang. sounds great though.

I made a typo and am too lazy to fix it. @souzaKnight, I am not 100% sure if it will sound like mine with only one but I think it will just a little quieter. id recommend the full true dual. you will love it. Plus sold this car, miss it like crazy but am buying a cobra and needed money to buy it.

  • @ lieutenant671. I bought the whole system so the pipes came with it. my buddy worked at an exhaust shop and upgraded me to 2.5 inch piping and a custom fab'd xpipe. all for free. plus my cats are still on too. smog rules in canada are just the same.

  • each muffler should be like 70-90 bucks, and a dump is just a curved 90 degree bent pipe. then when you have the rest of the money, buy the pipes from the mufflers back.

  • iRepMNsince1992, if you want it to sound good and perform well for cheap, i would def start with some kind of air intake. I prefer BBK, but there are many different companies. If you can afford a whole exhaust, roughly 500-700 dollars, buy the two mufflers (if you want dual) and have them installed with either a y-pipe or an x-pipe, then you can put two dumps on,

  • I just bought my first car a week after i turned 17 so about a month ago. 2006 Windveil blue v6 mustang 30,000 miles. I bought it the majority of it my self. ($3000 from parents) but I got a steal on it since i bought it through a company that sells to dealers. 11,000 plus tax. perfect condition, the guy before me was 68 and babied it. I am still making payments , so I dont got much to spend but are there any cheaper upgrades to make it sound better or perform better?

  • @americanhero00 The 2004 Mustang GT does 0-60 in about 6.0 seconds, the 2004 V6 Mustang does it in 9.0 seconds. How is that even close?

  • @Quatermain98526 Your numbers are from the wrong model years. a '99 to '04 6 shooter did a 7.1 0-60 in Car and Driver; Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords got a 14.9 1/4 out of a stock '99 6 shooter too. 9.0 is what the old single port 3.8s used to do prior to '99. They're not GT-fast, but they're not slow junk either.

  • @drc1981 Where are you getting these numbers? The 3.8 V6 was slow as balls, it never got 0-60 in 7 second anything! Now the 4.0 V6 in the 2005-2010 Mustangs was decent, it did 0-60 in 7 something.

  • @Quatermain98526 prior to '99, yes it was slow. C&D's Feb. 99 issue, 7.1 0-60, and the MM&FF June '99 issue; and that C&D was a crappy driver because I can do better than that when mine was stock. Trust me, there was a world of difference in a '99-04 3.8 compared to the older 3.8s. It was more or less what GM did with their 3800 Series II compared to the older 3800s.

  • @drc1981 Sorry, but I test drove a 2003 Mustang V6, and it won't do 0-60 in 7 anything, maybe 8 flat at best. And a 1/4 mile in 14.9 is bogus unless you have a source. I know in 1999 they boosted the GT from 225HP to 260HP and the V6 from 150HP to 190HP, but it wasn't enough to propel the car into the 7's.

  • @Quatermain98526 Listen man, you don't have to believe me if you don't want to, but I know what I'm talking about. And I told you the 14.9 came from MM&FF in June of '99. And if you test drove an '03 V6 automatic convertible, you'd be in the 8s, but not a V6 hardtop 5 speed. Big difference there too.

  • @drc1981 I test drove a 2003 4spd auto. Car won't see 7 second anything, but even if a few 3.8's can get in the 7's...by some miracle, it doesn't bother me much, since my Camaro is in the low 5's.

  • yes, I have the stock cats. everything that has been done to the exhaust is in the side info bar. and the tips are magnaflow tips. ya i know magnaflow on flowmaster is bad, but they look amazing.  they are also a very small slant, not the 45 degree slant

  • above 3200-3300 rpm it starts to sound like its reving higher than it is, but not ricer sound. Inever go above 3000 though, thats what i have my shift point set at.  i love this setup though

  • I have a stock V6 mustang with flowmaster 40's on it's and it sounds awesome at low RPMS and when the cars is ideling but it does get a little higher pitched when the rpms are higher doesnt sound like a GT but it also sure as hell doesn't sound like a RICER! these videos don't do real life ne justice i get people all the damn timne asking me if my car is a GT.

Now im saving my money and gunna buy a 03/04 cobra when I have enough. I'll still keep this car because its wicked fun to drive and its a convertible. Girls love convertibles lol.

  • i have a 96 mustang with full true dual pipes, to two thrush welded mufflers..you should have reved it more, it sounds like mine at idle

  • i have dual FLOWMASTER mufflers. the piping is 2.5 inch and it has a x-pipe with the cats. id def recommend this setup because it sounds sooooo mean at idle and WOT. people mistake it for a cobra and a gt all the time.

  • I would like to meet the people who thought it sounded like a gt or cobra haha that's rediculous. i have a v6 with FLOW 40's and i don't think there is anything i could do to this car to make it sound like an 8 cylinder. and believe me, i also have been through all the v6 mustang youtube videos. there might be one v6 on here that sounds similar to a v8, but none can match it. I'll just have to wait till i can afford a v8. cobra and gt...hahahaha wow

I have a built new edge v6. not bashin on u wattym, ur exhaust sounds good for a v6, but people who mistake that for a GT or a Cobra have not experienced the sound they make.

  • well no because my x-pipe still has the cats on it. theres no problem whatsoever. and if you do happen to run the same setup as mine, i can guarantee you will not be disappointed. i love the sound of this car.

    and do you have any problems with the x pipe and a chambered muffler?

    i know youre supposed to run a straight through muffler with an x pipe, but im considering a similar set up, but i dont want the car to run funny due to too much backpressure.

    and it still sounds pretty sick even though you say it sounds worse in the vid!

  • i love my setup man, camera never do v6 any justice but this car gets mistaken for a gt and cobra all the time. i love it and it keeps up with some gt's aswell. any cobra from 99-04, the cheaper the better then i will obviously moddify it.
