but i've been done, seen about everything!

When I SEE AN OCTOPUS FLYYY

  • Interestingly for a long time it was though that these animals seldom moved, just floated in place waiting to catch passing prey. More recently they were seen swimming around quite fast!

  • beautiful creature.....: > )

  • why do they live down there other than avoid danger? shouldn't they adapt to live in shallower waters? just wondering

  • @theheckwithit I saw once a documentary about them that said they once lived in shallow waters but were defenceless against Plesiosaurus so they retreated to the deep where plesiosaurus couldn't follow them.

  • @ObeyTheKiwi ah that makes better sense, thanks :D

  • cool! i doesnt even need light ^_^

  • /Vampyroteuthis infernalis/ -- literally, "vampire squid from hell". :DD

  • An animal can't come from a place that's not real!

  • This lol guy looks well cute! My new fave animal

  • Why do they say its from hell its very cute and its almost immune from being eaten because of it abilities

  • 0:29 dont you think its cute?

  • there are 6 people who dont like perfect ratings

  • when they glow, they dont leave. they dim the glowing spots like an illusion. thus the predator thinks it escaped then leaves. i love this world :D

  • That's the most freakyass thing I've ever seen in my life.ewwwhh.

  • It's great that we are being exposed to this wonderful animals existance. What is not so greAt is that the scientists exposing us are using religious terminology. C'mon BBC, hell? Vampire? What is this tomfoolery?

  • I want one of these in my pool..

  • Evolution (via environmental conditions) has created some wonderful animals.

  • Mabye we will find more new creature or prehistoric creatures in furture ?

  • well that's.... new O_O... ¬_¬

  • from ocean

  • this is y i have thalassophobia

  • If its still alive i think scientists Should find it and take its Dna sample and inject it into an egg so we can get look alikes

  • @evanzarsazproduction ......stop

  • 0:50 almost sounds like the radio static from Silent Hill, which would be quite fitting.

  • I love the mysterious deep sea animals, But im scared of the deep water because it would be nearly impossible to see and you would not know what is in the water next to you!

  • its the last one jackass

  • I have a stupid phobia about squids, so I saw this very far from the screen... BUT I can accept this one is amazing. It's even more amazing how there are thousands of creatures that have not been discovered yet, that are in our own planet...

  • we know more about the surface of the moon than our own ocean..fail!

  • the deep see is soooo beautiful! I wish people would have a little less interest in building rockets and going to the outer-space and spend some of that money and energy on deep sea exploration >< I mean there's so much left to be discovered right here on on our planet!!!

  • I played 1:03 over and over again

  • what if the Vampire Squid Bites you you'll turn to a vampire squid as well XD

  • amazing creature... li like the bioluninescence... it is getting dark: then turn on the lights... natrue rocks!

  • Vampyroteuthis is my favorite type of squid. Squid and octopus are my favorite animals. I pay more attention to octopus though...

  • @ladiesman8832 the ladies must love when you talk squids and octopus's to them hey ladies man?

  • @bubbabignuts It's not that. I like to study about octopuses and squids. That's all.

  • Actually, I saw another video of this and the phosphorescence actually dims so it appears to be getting away.

I think the fact that it flips itself "inside out" and has spikes is scarier than the "eyes"

  • it should be the rave squid not vampire squid from hell

  • Vampire squid from hell?

Most metal name for an animal ever.

  • @KaptenZom couldn't agree more

  • @KaptenZom its full latin name is Vampyroteuthis Infernalis...and well...just look at it! It wouldn't look out of place in hell swimming in satans tropical fish tank.

  • Comment removed

  • Strange creatures found in Japan, huge giants found in India...and what lays there for America? We'll never know.

  • look! its edward cullen!

  • i agree

  • that would seriously be one kick ass pet. i would have an entire room as a tank and keep the room dark so u can see it glow. then have one or two small floodlights so u can see it pass. awesome

  • this aint beautiful. this shit is scary!!!

  • whats so weird is that evan though its called a vampire squid its actually an octopus

  • @wildlife011803 its actually neither , its its own seperate species, and the only one in its order - no other cephalopods like it. its called 'squid' becuase when it was discovered they classed it as a squid.

  • It seems like Planet Earth tries to mimic what one would hear down there. Soft rumbling, eerie noises... It all sounds very cool and atmospheric and realistic, but in reality it's complete silence.

(and you certainly wouldn't hear Attenborough's voice down there, now THAT would be scary...)

  • Damn it is beautiful animal :D

  • I want one!!

  • @havocdosed meee tooo!

  • Cute.

  • And he neglects to mention it's only a foot long! I was so scared of it and the I found out my border collie could take him. Still, very cool. I was just picturing it being the size of a house.

  • you think chuck norris could take this thing on?

  • People use common sense here. At the level of depth theres not going to be many big fishes and numerous quantities of food for it to feed and big your imaginary huge!! It maybe one foot long but it sures is a well suited and nasty litlle thing to fuck with down there!!

  • Edward Cullen should see this...and then go and kill himself. Even this fucking squid is cooler than him

  • KILL IT ALL WITH FIRE

  • @loosekarrott but hes my buddy

  • the title sounds like something shanedawson would do

  • damn thats a scary ass squid!!!

  • Vampire squids are usually just around 1 foot long, so they are no threat to humans, but I find this footage frightening and infinitely interesting.

  • ya i'm doing research on this animal for school and i read that it is only 1 fucking foot long!

  • this is my favorite ocean animal its awesome

  • "from hell"? just "Vampire Squid" is enough xD

  • ocean life is so beautiful and mysterious most of the time.

plus octopi kick serious ass anyway, i'd love to have one as a pet.

  • octopi/squid kick ass*

  • I have litterally been looking 4 this video 4 years, I love the Vampire Squid, I love Attenborough, I love this video.

  • Do all the fish eventually bump into each other b/c, y'know, it's sooo dark down there? Amirite?

  • well the majority of life that lives down has evolved free from sunlight so the fact its dark does not really matter, they would of evolved other senses to help navigate rather than relying on sight primarily. sound being a primary way of navigation, sound waves travel much further in water, so pretty easy to hear what's coming.

  • OH MY GOD I WANT ONE AS A PET

  • amazing

  • can i have my life narrated by him?? hahah

  • why is it from hell?...

  • @sexyfly1992

Figured you might enjoy this lil fact. In the Bible Genesis Chapter 1 Verse 2. The word "Deep" comes from the Hebrew word "Tohu." That word means "Abyss." Now, the Hebrew word Sheol means pit and then if you look in the Greek you get Haties which is the Greek word for Hell. I'm guess that is why this creature has such a name. ^_^ Peace my friend!

  • dude i just learned that last night watching chuck missler lol

  • @sexyfly1992 its not rlly from "hell" but it just looks like a.. :_ how do i put it... its like its a dangrous squid

  • @sexyfly1992 Because Vampyroteuthis infernalis means "vampire squid from Hell"

  • @sexyfly1992 I think because the name sounds cool, "vampire squid from hell" sounds much cooler than "weird fish that lives on the bottom of the ocean with blue spots".

  • @sexyfly1992 Because it lives deep in the sea.

  • @sexyfly1992 From the latin species name "Vampyroteuthis infernalis", or lit. "Vampire Squid from Hell." Gorgeous animals though, and really tiny. Poses absolutely no risk to humans.

  • @sexyfly1992 lol

  • @sexyfly1992 If Attenborough says it's from hell, then dammit, it's FROM hell!

  • @sexyfly1992 I know right?!

  • @sexyfly1992

Haha, it comes from the last part of it's latin name: Infernalus = 'from 'Hell'".

  • @sexyfly1992 Because it murdered prostitutes.

  • @sexyfly1992 cause it lives deep down...

  • @sexyfly1992 its red

  • @sexyfly1992 i think because is red and it lives really deep in the sea.

  • @sexyfly1992 It came from those really hot tubes

  • .. So many unknown creatures in the ocean.. I really doubt that someday they'll know all of them

  • This will be my pet in 20 years!

  • quite interesting creature'must say?! he sure looks pretty cool 2me!

  • listen to tha by aphex twin and watch this episode of planet earth....smoke a bowl too

  • rad dude

  • Beautiful.

  • I heard Goldman Sachs is a member of this family of Vampire Squid!

  • Oh my dear God, these animals are so beautiful...

It's just amazing how much life lives in the aphotic zone of the ocean. It really, really is.

Things you wouldn't even imagine of...

    I love this world :D.

  • Hey there,

I was looking for this thing for a long time, because I forgot where I saw it.

I am so happy I found this vampire squid finally.

  • Sigourney Weaver narrates "Planet Earth", not Attenborough.

  • david attenborough narrates Planet Earth. Sigourney Weaver narrated the american T.V. version of the show. she dubbed it.

    you're stupid.

  • That sounded like an American woman to you?

  • i was expecting that squid to suck an animal's blood. oh well it still looks cool.

  • A plate of glowing calamari for me!

  • I'll have that with a side of fries. Maybe tatertots....

  • beautiful animal

  • LOL THE dumbo thing

  • :o It's like a cute, tentacley underwater raver!

  • Blelellelelelleleleleelelelele

  • best squid ever

  • after the type that are fried with a side of tartar.

  • wow.. looks very cute.. like an angel squid :P

  • haha me 2

  • at my school,we were watchin this today... =)

  • there is NO WAY a god could come up with "bio luminescent bacteria"

    darwin kicks ass.

  • haha that's all i can think about when i watch planet earth..."there is NO way this planned"

  • Fetch me one of those and I'll be more than happy to consume it.

  • im sure it wouldnt be able to hurt you in your bathtub. :) but would be kinda scary o.o

  • i cant decide which version to buy the BBC version or the discovery channel version

  • the only difference is the narration, and sir david attenborough's is better. buy the bbc version.

  • Some clips are altered, different order, different music choices, etc... fundamentally they are the same though.

  • Fortunately for all the people who wouldn't want to bump into one in their bathtub, it probably wouldn't survive there for very long. It's not used to our levels of oxygen - they would likely kill it.

  • lol that looks totally awesome.! wouldnt want one in my bathtub though

  • agreed, lol wouldn't want one in my bathtub ethier :P

    maybe as a pet? LOL

  • Wouldn't want one in my bathtub...

  • how big is it this creature exactly?

  • Very small, about the size of a football.

  • Gorgeous! It would be quite a hit at underwater rave parties, I think.

  • that thing is only like foot long ehh and is completely harmless too

  • I am in awe of the people who go down into the abyss in those tiny subs. I'd freak out in the dark, and the vampyroteuthis just scares me.

The abysses of the ocean truly are the last frontier.

  • AWESOME

  • gotta love the narrators voice

  • SWEET !

  • COOL!

  • the light that reflex from it so charming.

  • lol "the vampire squid...from HELL"

  • they're so beautiful and amazing. wouldn't want to find one in the bath though

    david attenborough is the best

  • wow that is totally freaky but awesome

  • the vampire squid is my fav! it looks damn cool!!

  • i woke up wth this on my TV with no sound... Scarred me for life.

  • That is CRAZY!!

    DAMN NATURE YOU SCARY!!!!

  • Words cannot express the level of epicness of this.

  • I guess John Hammond will open an underwater park now

  • DUMBO!

  • Ahh, what was that? ..That's the last time i swim 12 hundred feet deep in the pacific.....

  • but i saw that exact thing on blue planet and planet earth is narrated by a girl isn't it

  • the narrator is David Attenborough an 82 year old naturalist who works for bbc. and I'm pretty sure all the footage they do themself

  • The american version was narrated by sigourney weaver, which would completely spoil the whole show. Attenborough is a national treasure. End of.

  • Yes it is Planet Earth - the version that aired on the BBC. It was narrated by David Attenborough. I have the Sigourney Weaver version too.

  • Yea, i have the blue-ray...its so nice!

  • @RecoveryTweet no offence to Sigourney Weaver but David Attenborough simply cannot be replaced. She's an actor he's a zoologist, there's no contest.

  • thats not planet earth, thats blue planet

  • this is planet earth. i have the dvd's and watched it as it preimere.

  • This is my favorite animal. :D
