  • The quality of that is pretty damned good! Was it originally digitally recorded? I guess it would have been analogue back then...

  • say what you will best ever opening of dr who ever

  • HAPPY 48TH ANNIVERSARY DOCTOR WHO!!!

  • Somehow my favourite who theme, just because it really plays with the bassline and those nice chord pads in the background really add to the overall harmony

  • magic

  • I liked the floating pieces of popcorn.

  • @kawless damn... you....

  • I loved Sylvester McCoy theme it was so 80s and cool. Loved the opening as well it was brilliant at the time and the best one I think it had the tardis, earth, space and started with a bang!

  • What is the name of the CD?

  • @marcsw5000 - The World of BBC Themes, there are some people selling copies through Amazon,

  • i just love the part of the theme at 0:39 its such a classical tea in a cup type of music for the original doctors its so fitting :D

  • Great music for an awful era. Doctor 7 and Ace are the only things I like about those years. Remebrance of the Daleks was good though.

  • @TsoLan1 So what is wrong with Fenric, Ghost Light, Greatest Show, Survival? granted the era wasn't perfect (no era is really outside of the Hinchcliffe era), but it had more than one "good" story and not as many howlers as perception suggests.

  • Still remains my favourite version of the theme, it nails both the epicness of the retro Howell theme and the mystery of the Deliaware theme, its got the most distinctive tune to it- its pacey and jingly, it's absoloutely spooky and spectacular..

  • This was always my favourite version of the theme.

  • Great video, well done. This was my favourite era if the show when I was a kid.

  • this shit is depressing.

  • I wish the new series had an opening sequences similar to the 1987-1989 one, with a theme similar. I prefer Doctor Who's theme to be more slow, mysterious, and eerie to reflect how ancient the Doctor is and make it feel all the more "alien" in tone.

  • @XxXLucozadeXLoverXxX I wish that there would be a remix of both 1987-1989 theme and 2010 theme in to one remixed song that would be awsome.

  • I love this theme along with Peter Howell's version.

  • Has anyone got a the clip from the childrens programme "Corners" that Sophie Aldred presented. The clip is the one with her meeting Keff McCulloch and seeing how that was made.

  • @hoggys2much - search "keff mcculloch corners"

  • I really loved this Doctor. Not only is Sylvester a great actor, but this version of the Doctor was very dark indeed, and I always loved how he had the tendency to literally talk his enemies into self-destruction.

  • @ChaoticHypocracy I agree, Sylvester's Doctor was very dark and sinister at times. I would compare him to Daniel Craig's Bond. Actually, on that subject, don't you think there are quite a few comparisons that can be drawn between The Doctor and James Bond.

  • My personal favourite version of the theme when I was really into Dr Who. Dragonfire remains the episode that had me hooked. I used to love re-enacting Kane's hand-freeze on the face move in the playground. Some of the monsters have a Power Ranger villain feel to them!

  • @CelticPowerRanger I think you mean some of the monsters in that crap have a Doctor Who feel to them.

Doctor Who pre-dates the garbage known as Power Rangers by nearly 30 years....

  • If you like this pile of manure you must have been very desperate !

  • it's so off key! like a primary schooler picked it out on a keyboard!

  • This theme has always been my favorite, by far and i REALLY like the whole version of it XD

  • can you e-mail me the mp3 of the song at: ninthlyokowarrior@yahoo.com?

  • i love that theme tune cus its th full length one and it dont have those annoying sound effects in it

  • @doctorwho888 it doesn't sound like a fart lol

  • This version of the theme is the definition of the 80's, it's so classic...

  • omg the beginning sounded like a fart... this is terrible

  • Impressive CGI for 1987 (the year I was born).

  • Indeed, if only the BBC had given the entire McCoy run the money to do an equally impressive job at the actual effects in the series, instead of of the same cheap budget they had in previous years.

I love Doctor Who, I grew up watching it, I was impressed with the floating Dalek effect and Dalek weapon effects in remembrance of the daleks, but the way the BBC treated the series was disgraceful, even people on the show said it needed a far bigger budget than it was given.

  • @novamist shhh

  • Best Dr. Who theme since Peter Howell's.

Personally, I think the newer ones are awful, and Murray Gold butchered it with his Series 4 - Present version.

  • i think the series 4 is the best, 2nd best Peter Howell, 3rd this one probably

  • @TheGlamazonFan - Definitely. The recent Who titles have been dreadful.

  • how did you get this without the credits the titles on it

  • @exploringtv - the clean titles are available as an extra on The Curse of Fenric DVD

  • my one is paul mcganns is my era

  • Technically, McCoy was incumbent Doctor when I was born (1991), so this (or arguably the movie theme) is my era's Doctor Who theme, lol.

It's definitely my favourite of the lot of them, and I love the CGI titles too.

  • Ah, the soundtrack of my childhood :*)

  • great version of the theme but, uh, what happened at 0:52??? it kinda like, "dropped"...don't know how to explain it

  • It dopped in pitch. You have to turn up to listen to that bit.

  • There's nothing wrong with it, that's just part of the composition.

  • definitely a great creative powerful theme song ! love it ! wow

  • This video brings back memories of me working at a fan run convention in San Jose called TIMECON where I met Sylvester McCoy and Anthony Ainley.

They were a crack up. I was responsible for them getting to their discussion panels on time..good memories....

  • Wow...The Seventh Doctor and The Master in the Bay Area? Awesome! :)

  • sadly, the theme isn't liked by alot of people, i think its one of the best and i think they should do a new take on it for matt smith next year!

  • I like it.

  • Comment removed

  • Percy James Patrick Kent-Smith was the doctor in the time I started watching it and will always be one of my faves. And he's scottish.Mon the McCoy!

  • Well done, first person i've seen on youtube use his real name xD

  • Excellent job! The 7th Doctor is definitely one of the best of the lot!

  • Is there any chance you could E-mail me the full version of this please? :-)

  • THANK-YOU!

(For actually going to the effort of taking the Sylv title sequences and making them into a movie to accompany the theme tune... and not just using a static image, as some YouTubers have done for this kind of project)

Worked quite well :) Not that keen on the wipe effect but all in all very good. :)

  • I can try and get the mp3 if people want me to.

  • Can you get me this theme on mp3? Please thx

  • Same with me BetaLink64, I gave up finding it aswell, but when finding this one here it made my day. Thanks Darren79

  • Where can Idownload this theme? The seventh doctor is my favourite doctor, and I would enjoy very much to have this theme. Thx

  • This sounds older than 1987 if u ask me, but this version of the theme is really good :)

    5/5!

  • This should be the offical music video of the theme! Well Done!

  • do you have an Mp3 of this theme?

been looking for this one for a while!

  • I have the piano arrangement of this theme

  • ive actuly got this cd !!!

  • I had actually given up hope in trying to find the full-length version of McCullogh's version of the theme, until I saw your alternate versions of the other 80s title sequences. This version is one of my favorites.

  • @BetaLink64 It just beat Star Trek The Next Generation to the 1st ever TV programme to use Computer-generated imagery!

  • @woolwichlad Star Trek didn't start using CGI until much, much later than Doctor Who. Oh sure they had some computer-generated TV screens inside the ship, but they used Models for all exterior shots until 1996 (when they hired Babylon 5's CGI company).

    .

The second television show to use CGI (after the Doctor) was Babylon 5, and then seaQuest, and then Space Above and Beyond. At least as far as I know

    .

  • @BetaLink64 who in holly hell is McCullogh?

  • @TheIVGamer - Do you realize you replied to a three-year old comment? I spelled "McCulloch" wrong. Sue me. If you don't know who Keff McCulloch is, then I suggest you not comment anymore.

  • @BetaLink64 holly shit its really 3 years old!? Sorry I feel stupid for not realizing you meant Keff, I mean its in the bloody description... I thought you'd gotten Sylvester McCoy's last name wrong.

  • agree 86 the best for bass, its too far back in the mix here...but the treatments are very tangerine dreamish
