  • Definitely a gem in the Turbo library! Great review!

  • @neversaydie97 Totally! Thanks for watching and supporting the show.

  • @neversaydie97 Totally! Thanks for watching and supporting the show.

  • This game was bad ass... I used to go to play it at Radio Shack back in the day... lol. I couldn't beat the 2nd last round though, the one where you fall. Beat it on emu... so pissed that I was so close to the end at the time.

  • @jakal911 I hear ya'! Love it too! Thanks for taking time to watch the video. ;)

  • Another spot on review man... But for me it has a lot of replay value, You know, ninjas? This was an entirely personnal comment of course because the game was accused to have an uneven difficulty level back then. Although true, I still like it because the game is short & sweet. Not like it's an RPG or something.

  • @Polywanacraka Cool, thanks for always sharing your opinions and watching the vids my friend. :)

  • Is Ninja Spirits the best tg16 has to offer in terms of graphic design displaying utmost of the tg16 console?

  • Great Review!!

Im looking for this one ;0)

  • @russell56443 Excellent! I think you'll enjoy it. The game is great! :)

  • Think I'll fire this one up on the ol' Turbo Express tonight.

  • @MrCumstein Fantastic! :)

  • The TG-16 is just a great fuckin' console, and this game is one of the highlights in the TG-16 library.

  • @MrCumstein Totally! Thanks for watching!

  • @spida1a Keep the vids coming dude!

  • This absolutely took me back to 1993/94 when I was only in the first grade and quite young, yet I knew this game pretty well and played it on a regular basis.

  • The replay value was pretty hgh for me. Beating it on arcade mode always left me with a satisfying sensation. :-)

  • @Prophecy2fulfill Very cool! I love the game, too! Thanks for watching!

  • Thanks for your reviews. They are getting me back into PC Engine emulation :) I always wanted a TurboGrafx, but went with a Genesis back in the day. Now I might get one on eBay -- if only the systems were a little cheaper!

By the way, has anyone ever told you your voice sounds like Roy Brocksmith's from Total Recall??

  • @stalepie0303 Nobody ever told me that "until" I started getting a lot of subscribers on YouTube. Since then, I've heard it many, many times. And....ha, I think it's cool. I WISH I could have been in that movie. Ha ha! :)

  • Spida1a TurboGrafx 16 just released this game on the iPhone its the TurboGrafx - 16 GameBox app

  • @mp4podcastDOTcom Cool. I probably wouldn't play it on there....but I hope it opens the door to people who might not get a chance to play it normally. :)

  • Anyone notice how incredibly similar Muramasa: The Demon Blade for Wii is to this game? It struck me when I watched this video..it's basically the same game with better looking graphics!

  • curse you i want a tg16 now!!!!!

  • @starwarsnerd95 Ugh...I'll take the blame!

  • just picked up the jap version for 35. :-X

  • @123doomdoom Excellent!

  • Chris, I just got my copy of Ninja Spirit from the mail and man, it's a great game!! To be honest, again, this review was what sold the game to me. It is great, but man, it is challenging. Oh, and your review was great!! Especially the laughing moment i the beginning....I watch the review just for that ^__^

  • @naikanomtom Awesome. I'm glad you enjoy it. I really like the game. Obviously. Ha ha. :)

  • @naikanomtom This game is one of the easiest games i ever played. I blasted through it on my first try (on the system). The last part was a bit challenging (avoiding ninjas), but i found a safe route on my 7th try. I mastered it on my 2nd play. I wish there were more levels.

  • I found out about this game about a year ago, and damn was I impressed. The gameplay is unique and solid, and I think that's where this game truly delivers.

  • @CyborgNinja7 Most definitely! Thanks for watching and commenting! :)

  • Agree that this game shines! Do you know this is one of the games that the PC Engine throws out in high res (it's like a widescreen as compared to the standard 4:3 output)..I only know this because the HuE emulator for the PSP (do you have that?>) plays on CPU mode, pixel for pixel, and you see it there. Legend of Hero Tonma is another one. And another classic game too!

Will try and work my way through your reviews....splendid work bro!

  • Very interesting! Thanks for sharing that! :)

  • @futurematt5 How can you see the game in hi res on a PC emulator?

  • @CyborgNinja7 I don't know the exact measurements but ninja spirits when played on a PSP or PC emulator on 1:1 pixel ratio, is a wider screen than the standard, so you're getting say 300 x 170 pixels rather than 170 x 170 pixels. On a 4:3 TV screen you probably wouldn't see any difference.

  • i love ninja games! keep up the excellent work!

  • Awesome! Thanks a lot!

  • this was my favorite game on the turbografx16. i consider it a shmup-on-feet instead of inside a spaceship in space somewhere. so much action and you must destroy everything on the screen! lots of fun :D

  • Ha ha. Feet-shmup! :)

  • Good to see you back Chris!

I'm catching up on your episodes.

No sound on the chip count? :)

  • Hey, glad you're still watching'. :)

The sound is still there, it's a little quieter that's all. Ha ha.

    Thanks again!

  • Chris I love your Reviews...it's nice to see someone keep this system real and going. I had a TurboGrafx 16 when I was younger. This by far was my favorite games for the system. Only thing I wish with this game it was longer!! Be nice for you to have a Top 10 T-16 and a top 10 Super CD games list!!

  • Hey! Thanks a lot for the compliments and for watching the vids. Means a lot!! :)

  • you know, Ive been watching these and enjoyed them allot. and whats sad. I can't find one.

  • Thanks for the support. I'm so glad you enjoy the reviews as much as I do putting them together. :)

  • Oh yea. I want a TurboGrafx now BUT I can't find one. Anyways, Thursday I will be purchasing the TurboViews DVD so ill be happy to receive that.

  • Another review I missed out on due to being a lot on deviantART.

    Awesome job as usual, Chris!

The intro cracked me up, especially at the last laugh where it broke into a cough. Funny!

  • Ha ha. Cool!

    Thanks man!

  • Awesome!! :D

Great game and a great port of the arcade. Certainly not 1:1 with the arcade, but quite close especially considering how it was an early pc engine release.

A funny story on how I originally purchased this game bitd. I rolled $80 in pennies with looseleaf paper and scotch tape and then walked across a frozen lake in the middle of the winter with a backpack full of pennies to get to the mall so I could pick up this game. Fortunately, the salesman at Radio Shack accepted them. heh

  • Ha ha. You were pretty desperate. LOL! :)

I can relate. Thanks for watching!

  • @avenuePad Great story things we did as kids to get our games...i did some funny stuff to myself

  • @bacardipr05 yup when ys I & II came out spent many an afternoon bent over a stall in the roses bathroom......er i mean mowing lawns....what?

  • nice coughing laugh.

  • Ha ha. Yeah, I lost it a little bit. Lol! :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • But that was funny of you laughing like that.

  • your voice sounds like a life insurance policy commercial.

  • Sweet

  • Discovered this one via the Virtual Console. Of the many "ninja" games on the Wii VC, I think this might be my favorite one. Liked the extra personality you put into this particular review. :) Keep up the good work!

  • Hey, thanks so much. Have a Great New Year!

  • Wow super well done.

  • Hey, thanks so much. I'm glad you enjoy it!

    Thanks for watching!

  • just found your channel, and it is awesome! i subscribed right away! love your reviews and love the turbogafx 16! btw, you have a great voice, perfect for reviews!

  • Thanks so much. I am really glad you enjoy the series as much as I do putting it together. You know?

    Have a Great New Year!

  • Ha ha. Yeah, really.

    :)

  • I finally got a chance to watch this and your recent Tiger Road review. Good to see that you are back.

The music for Ninja Spirit is some of the more interesting stuff IREM has done (yes, including R-Type)...

Before watching this, I was convinced that you might use the scratchy "howling wolf" sample as a motif in your review--glad you refrained.

  • I really enjoyed this game but after i completed it i didnt feel compelled to play it again :|

  • Thanks for watching. Have a Happy New Year.

  • Ninja Spirit does seem very cool. My personal favorite is the dopleganger! I mean, who doesn't like having a three person army of yourself attacking at the same time?

  • Oh, definitely. Ha. You really feel like you own the game with all those guys around. :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • Ah yes, I love this game. I have it for Virtual Console on my Wii. I saw a copy of it yesterday for sale at a retro game shop but I decided to get Last Alert instead. Maybe I'll go back for it next time I'm visiting home but it doesn't have the manual or case & I've really come to appreciate the charm of the often hilariously bad Turbografx box art.

  • Anytime you find TG16 games in a game store, it's in your best interest to buy all of them provided that the price is reasonable.

Trust me, they're a great investment.

  • lol well it was the day before xmas eve and if I had gotten everything from that store, which I was interested in, then it'd be one sad xmas morning for my friends and relatives whose presents I'd have to return so I could still eat food & pay rent. Besides, I have a pretty decent TG-16 collection going already & my TG-CD is my new toy so that's why I did get Last Alert and it is friggin awesome!

  • Excellent choice in review! I used to have this game so it brought back lots of good memories. I loved the crisp, detailed graphics, minimalist Japanese music, and the bosses. This really is a great game and a great port.

  • I definitely agree. :)

Thanks for watching and happy new year.

  • roflmaolol @ the coughing ;D;D;D

  • Ha ha. Yeah, I lost it a little bit. :)

  • Yeah, I didn't like Tiger Road quite as much a NS. That is for sure.

    Thanks for watching, as always!

  • Damn straight. :)

  • Great game I always wanted to play this game at home but I had no tg-16. Tanks for wii though! Anyway nice fuckin review!

  • F'n A man. Thanks for watching!

  • the story is so chiche i just want to throw up lol...great review

  • Ha ha. I know isn't it? LOL! :)

  • Amazing! Great review!

I'm so glad you did Ninja Spirit. It's my favorite non-shmup for the Turbo!

It gets a lot of comparisons to Ninja Gaiden, but I can honestly say I like this game much better. I'm serious! It's not ridiculous hard and switching weapons on the fly is just fun! Don't get me wrong: I love NG, but NS is just easier to pick up and play, even to this day! Moonlight FTW!!

And the Thousand Sword part before the end. That part's just mean...

  • Loved that game as a kid! I recall that last level being a total bitch. D: I could never get past it.

  • I always hated the stage with the bamboo spike traps the most. You know, the one where you have to alternate between walking upside down and right side up? Nerve racking!

  • Really top notch reviews. Subscribed.

  • Hey, awesome. Thanks so much!

    Happy Holidays!

  • Not surprising that the coolest system out there attracts the coolest people!

  • Awesome review!!! Totally enjoyed it :D I just bought Ninja Spirits not long ago and I can't wait to play it! It's a kick ass Ninja game for the PCE!!!

  • Yes, it's a great game.

    Thanks for watching!!

  • Thumbs up spida for one of my all time favorite TG16 games.

Btw for your comment on it's sound sure it's not as good as the arcade version, but i like it regardless.

  • Great review! ninja Spirit is a great game and one of my favorite early titles on the TG-16.

  • Image Fight (also made by Irem) has a very similar sound test screen! Never messed with the sound test in Ninja Spirit!

  • You should. It's fun and the tunes are titled with names like "Behind the Wind" and so on...

  • It's great to be back on YT and seeing one of my favorite reviewers.I have not played Ninja Spirit in years!

    cough cough

  • Hey my friend. I was excited to see your video as well.

So, when are we getting some beer? :)

    Happy Holidays!

  • There was a time when I rented a TG16 from a local video store and this was one of the three games I rented with it(along with Bonk and Dungeon Explorer). It was fun.

  • This is a very visually appealing game. Nice job with the video editing! I really enjoyed the funny intro!

    *Cough cough* =P

  • Ha ha. Yeah, got a little carried away with telling the plot. Ha ha. :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • The music was off tha chain in this 1. Some of the best on any system.

  • I recall seeing this game in a Toys R Us Christmas catalog or something when the TG-16 first came out. I thought the cover was really cool and wanted it,but I never got a TG-16. Looks like one of the best looking games on the system.Oddly it doesn't seem to receive much fanfare.

  • I know, you don't hear much about it. You know? Then again......what Turbo game gets fan-fare? That's why I'm here.... ha ha! :)

Hey, thanks for watching and happy holidays!

  • This game looks really fun i always liked side scrollers.

  • I do too. Always will be probably one of my favorite genre of games.

    Thanks!

  • Great game, great video as always!

  • Wohoo. Thanks so much

  • Awesome review again man!

Game looks like fun to me. Arcade mode looks maddening though haha.

  • Oh ugh. I remember trying "arcade" mode once when I was a kid.........notice I said "once." LOL! :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • Another good review! I never got to see the arcade version. Well, not the machine anyway but, yeah it really is a cool game in spite of a few flaws.

The first time I ever played it, I thought it had awful graphics but, it turned out that our TV (on it's last leg) was the problem.

The game can get a bit frustrating at times with certain enemies and that ridiculous chasm at the end but, it really is fun once you get the hang of it.

The music is catchy and it looks a lot like the arcade game!

  • Ok i had never played this game before and while i was over at my friend's house he was playing it on a emulator and after i saw it i knew i had to have it so i went home and jumped online and ordered the PC Engine version and i have been loving it for almost a year now.

  • Another great Review!

  • It's like Ninja Gaiden meets Ghouls and Ghosts

  • I never liked this game. Not sure why.

  • It's okay, we all have our "likes and dislikes." You know? You should see the flack I get when I negatively review a game someone else likes....LOOK OUT! Ha ha. :)

    Thanks for watching!

  • again nice review :) happy holidays

  • Hey, you too. Thanks so much!!

  • hey that game looks pretty cool! 5 stars man, wait for your next review ;)

  • Hey, me neither. You got one I can borrow? Ha ha. :)

    Thanks for watching!!

  • Great review

  • Thanks. Happy Holidays!

  • Yeah, Arcade mode is just nuts. Not only can you just take one hit but certain enemies are even tougher to kill as well. Great review and Ninja Spirit here is definitely one of the great show cases of the Turbografx-16 abilities.

  • Definitely. Happy Holidays my friend!

  • Happy Holidays to ya too dude!

  • Good Review! =)

  • Awesome, thanks so much for watching!

  • lmao at the laughter then coughing at the begining...great review, loved this game....always love the ninja themed 2d classic action games..

  • Ha ha. Yeah, got a little carried away, eh? LOL!

    Thanks for watching!

  • One of my favorite older games!

  • One of the best to turbo graphics 16, you just got to love the ninjas! 5stars my friend!

  • Wohoo! Ninja! Ninja! :)

    Thanks for watching! Happy Holidays!

  • Awesome video I've been wondering about ninja spirits.

    Eh Merry Christmas!

  • LOL at 0:38 XD

I'll be buying this one soon. Looks like loads of fun.

  • Yeah........got a little out-of-control, eh. :)

Thanks for watching. It is REALLY fun.

  • No prob. Merry Christmas!

  • I am suprised that since this game came out in the beginning of the console short life span their was never a sequal. Excellent review like always.

  • I agree. It is really a shame.

The wikipedia page has an interesting theory about why there wasn't a sequel.

    Thanks for watching!

  • Aww, Ninja Spirit, one of my favorites. Great review.

  • Same here. Definitely! :)

  • I LOVE this game! Glad to see you review it. How 'bout a review on Son Son II? *nudge nudge* ;D

Always great watching, cant wait to get my dvd. :D
