I just learned this lick, do you have any other of these great country licks? Better yet, do you have any scale suggestions or instructional recommendations? I've always wanted to learn how to play like Roy Clark or Chet Atkins.
nice little lick there.. you would have faired well had you grown up in Muscle Shoals, Alabama like I did.. just glad I was taught to read and write music theory from the age of 4 yrs old while I was learning to read and write english.. Otherwise this would have been a difficult little lick.. especially for a piano player like myself.. Thanks for taking the time to break it down too, I like your style of teaching.. helps us hard heads out alot!!!
After reading comments, and reading many comments about wanting tab for this. First, the tab is provided, however, I know how computers can be. My point is that if you cant learn this from watching this video (he gives more than enough slow, med, examples) your hands may not be ready to play it. Remember there is no shame in that, but realize you have a great vid to watch, and the audio. If someone just can't figure it out send me an E and I will help.
Great playing, sound and video. Thanks for posting, I am going to your site to subscribe and do more listening now. You appear to be close to my age, can you imagine having this type of resource available when we were teens, I was learning Willie Nelson solos from the LP. HAHA 5 stars
I must admit I laughed when I first saw the intro. That say's quite a bit! That my first reaction to your guitarplaying is to laugh! You are one awesome guitar player!
Thank You Robert. You are an excellent teacher. I too caught the accent. I couldn't tell if it was Nordic or German. You could be mistaken for a Canadian, Minnesotan or North Dakotan. Anyway, good clear understandable English.
Verry Cool !!!! thank you so much for sharing your talent with everyone instead of hoarding it to yourself. You will be rewarded for your generosity someday !!!
@cheetoAandV Well, single coils will help a lot (bridge or bridge and middle pickups), treble is up high, bass and mids turned down. But I'm no expert and havn't tried to get this tone. But I do have this guitar.
Good lesson, but.......if players are trying to learn this level of riff, you shouldn't have to waste time at the beginning explaining how to do an alternating bass. If they don';t know how to do that, they shouldn't even think about learning this lesson.
thatx guitar is a stratx deluxe with noiseless pickups. i had one. it also has a button where u can have bridge and neck pups and u can have all 3 pups on. sounds killer. they have american model and mex . the first ones had an ash body as well. wife wrecked car and i sold it to get it fix ed. great strat
I like the way you played that basic Alternate Bass chord. Its very economical strumming.and picking DOWN on the root, UP on the chord. DOWN on the 5th, UP on the chord. (One smooth hand motion) Very cool. I have been playing for years and would have played that all with DOWN strokes. However seeing you playing it that way, is very interesting. Thanks for your Videos, you are an excellent teacher.
nice work gonna practice some of your technique you,ve got some great stuff going on there..maybe incoporate some of what you do in my next vidio..if you care to check out mine.. what you think
Your name suits you! I am happy you were never one of my instructors. Being able to slow stuff down to that degree is not easy and essential for good teaching. And most people need that level expansion to hear/see the picture clearly.
Ouch!
the medium tempo is already a little to fast for me
it seems i'll need a few days/weeks/years to cover that
btw
Great Lesson!

Known of Robert for awhile. A solid and gifted teacher, IMHO. Covers blues, country, and acoustic...(with some jazz thrown in)!
His site, (at top) has many free licks. The full DVD lessons are more than reasonable—easy to learn from. (You have to practice, though!) Good luck!

real country licks are played without a pick so the strings SNAP against the frets.
