DAMN!!! look at his arms at :28. been 7 years since i have seen Robinson play live. forgotten how big his arms where at the end of his career. makes Howard look like a regular player. and no people the only thing that Robinson and Howard have in common is the abaility to fly thru the air. howard is limited to the paint, only tries on defense if he can get a block, and doesnt have the heart, IQ, & skill of Robinson. i repeat. there only similar in there abaility to fly thru the air.
@ILOVEKIMBOSLICE today there just more athletic. too many players out of highschool and 1 & done players nowadays. they dont have the same fundamental skill and game IQ like the players of past generations.
@SAtownZ28 its more prevalent with young big men. They rely too much on face up and they don't have any post moves. Kwame Brown is the ultimate example of that.
@newagepun there are a few young bigmen that develop a back to the basket skill set. al jefferson, lamarcus aldridge, david lee, dejuan blair, kevin love, . but then theres amare, blake griffin, josh smith....i can go on all day.
Thankyou coolest videoa and music!!!!!!!!! Saibecc all guys i sure agree that Robinson would really shake that rim in todays game. look at this speed and how easy he scores, i heard even he could shoot the three three three when the team needed it. He got got dribble to for a big guy!
He's physique is similar to Dwight, but he's more of a Kevin Garnett, tall and athletic. A small forward in a center's body. they are both quick and graceful. Both handles the ball very well for their size. That is what I see
there is no center in the league as good as david in his time but i think shaq was better he could put up 30 nd 40 with 15 rebounds dwight howard isnt nd wont b there bcuz shaqs offensive moves were already developed when he came into the league

Nice video and some good footage there. My favorite player of all time. IMHO he had the best two handed dunk I have ever seen, only Dominic Wilkins came close (which I wished David was healthy enough to play along side him). He was a freaking cheetah in the open court, I have seen him chase down so many point guards (like kenny at 2:34) and swat them like an ant.

Your crazy. Shaq up until the last three years was in another league altogether than Howard. Howard looks like such a beast today because there are no more true centers left. Shaq in his prime would have flat out dominated Howard.
A top 50player of all time, and top sportsman of all time...A true wonderful ROLEMODEL in the days of me first attitudes. THIs is who kids should really strive to emulate.
Dwight is nothing like Robinson. Dwight is stronger, much better vertical leap while Robinson had a much better shot and footwork. But Dwight is developing and maybe will become a better center than David. But David will always have a better shot and footwork. Dwight though is so dominant without that shooting touch that Robinson, Ewing and Olajuwon had. Dwight is very rare in his own way because his athletisism is greater then Olajuwon and Robinsons ever was. I don't see his game being simmilar
When he was w/ the Magic, and all the reporters were talking about Dwight as the 2nd coming of Robinson, Grant Hill disagreed. He said Robinson was a small forward in a center's body, while Dwight's the 2nd coming of Shaq. I think agree w/ Grant's assessment though Dwight's still pretty raw on O compared to Shaq at that age.
I think Dwight and David are similar in that they both have freakish athleticism. Dwight however is more of a power player than David the more I've watched of him. Much more similar to Shaq than David. David liked to face you up rather than power you down and he had a quickness that, even to this day, I still have never seen in a big man. Amare comes close though. I think Grant Hill's assesment is more accurate.
If Dwight would have came along in the mid nineties he would have just been another good center. Look at his numbers, they might look good today, but 10- 15 years ago averaging 23-25 pts plus 12-14 rebounds was common compared to today. You had Olajuwon, Robinson, Ewing, Shaq, Webber, Shawn Kemp, Duncan, Mutumbo, etc. Nowadays Howard is probably the biggest guy on the court 8/10 games, back then he would have been going up against a true center almost every night
By what logic? How old are some of you guys? Shaq in his prime for instance, averaged 25-29 pts a game and 12-14 rebounds, over about a nine year period. Playing against true 7 foot centers AND double teams 75% of the time. (more like 90% of the time for the double teams) If you singled Shaq in his prime, you got hit with a 35/15, AT LEAST. If not 40/20. Same thing with D-Rob in his prime. Robinson played in an era of dominant big men, and thrived. Howard doesnt.
Yeah I have to agree with you for the most part. Im a fan of Dwight but Id have to say as of right now Dwight would have a very dificult time matching up with what is arguably the greatest era of centers (80s - 90s). You had Ewing, Robinson, Olajuwan, Motumbo, Shaq, Mourning, Seikaly, Parish, Eaton. Now its just Ming, Howard, and Shaq. However thats not taking into account how much more Howard will develope. Give him a couple more years when hes at his best and we'll see again.
Are you serious? Look into Bynums numbers per minutes in the last two years. And he's only 22 yrs old. Or you could just look at Howards performance in the finals this year. Against a Bynum AT 80%! A healthy Bynum will be a dominant big man. Period. As far as big men in the NBA today, Bynum is EASILY top 5 if not top 3.
Bynum is not even close to be in the same league as David Robinson. Robinson was a Phenom that will never happen again. Howard is close but he will never get there. David Robinson was a freak of nature which couldve had four more years of monster numbers if he didnt commit to the navy and never injured his back.
I agree, there isnt a big man in the league on the level of Robinson in his prime. Bynum has a higher ceiling than anybody else right now though, IMO.
@Saibecc1 I agreed with you somewhat a year ago, but by now I think it's clear that Howard's game is what it is. He's not going to progress offensively much more than he already has, and certainly he's not going to get near the skills, or touch, that Robinson had.
And yes, I was and am a huge fan of David Robinson, if it wasnt already obvious.
@eilrruughei Agree! Robinson had great athletic gifts (like Dwight) and perhaps loses a little on strength to Dwight, but wins overall due to far superior skills, court coverage and court awareness. Robinson, Olajuwan, Ewing and possibly even Daugherty would beat Dwight overall. Shaq would beat him at his own game.
@paksta Shaq in his prime would have destroyed Howard. NOBODY, even Robinson, even Olajuwon, could have played Shaq straight up without help in his prime years, which IMO were 99-03.
@eilrruughei hmmm, prime olajuwon could certainly hold something to prime shaq in my opinion. It would still be back and forth and olajuwon would struggle with Shaq's size.
wrong one series because of the crappy team david had to carry vs the dream and glyde surrounded by a bunch of excellent role players the alltime series is in favor of david.
@AKAmushroom David Robinson was listed as 7'1'' 235 to Dwights 6'11'' 265 . . . . . . As of right now Robinson was a much more developed offensive player and Howard probably wont be that good . . but defensively I'd want Howard
@AKAmushroom RAPED would be a better term for what he would do to dwight. i still remember his quadruple double game agnst detroit way back then his 10 blocks were just amazing
David in his prime could teach Dwight a thing or two. Dave was fast, quick and consistent...year after year..Dwight though is definitly built like dave.
Mad Agree!!! They're built very similar, and both very agile for their size. But what made David so lethal was his touch! That sweet jumper could be hit from anywhere. That's where Dwight needs to improve. He can dunk but 40% from the line is just bad!
The Admiral was a fucking beast in his day. Dude could do it all. Everytime I see D-Howard play, it reminds of me The Admiral. Only thing Howard needs to work on is his jumper.
Robinson is that dude......one of the best big men to ever do it.
David never really had that much talent around him either. That says alot about him as a player being able to carry a franchise without another star until Timmy came in 10 years later. I agree that Dwight Howard resembles him more than any player right now. Dwights great.
@Saibecc1 Only similarity I see between Howard and Robinson is the athleticism. Robinson was a far more skilled player offensively, and as good or better defensively. Nowadays they give out defensive player of the year based on blocked shots, as far as I can tell. Robinson would have won it a few times based on that criteria.
The first great Spur I got to see from start to finish. The guy could run with the guards and jump out of the building. He could run around you, right through you, or jump over you. A perfect physical specimen if there ever was one.
How spoiled are we Spurs fans. W got to see one of the greatest centers of all time, and then, for an encore, the greatest power forward to play the game, Tim Duncan. Some teams would settle for seeing either one, but to get the chance to follow both, amazing.
You cant forget Manu and Tony Parker as well. Thats why I try to watch as many of their games because you dont see players of their caliber come around that often especially to one franchise. We're definitely spoiled.:)
D-Rob is my favorite player of all time, n in my opinion the best center ever play the game. Why? Cuz he had the package, when he arrives to the NBA he change the typical center who only has to post under basket. DRob was quick like a small fwd, great jump shooter, dunker, rebounder, shot blocker. The number reveals how great he was. Even when Olajuwon dominate Rob in the 95 serie, DRob was great cuz he was guarding the Dream alone meanwhile Houston was @ some times triple team defending Robinson
David Robinson has served his family, God, country and community with great love, honor and distinction. How many men, let alone athletic superstars, could make the same claim? He is a superstar both on and off the court.
He did not start basketball in earnest until college. And yet look at his legendary status, despite coming to the game late.
If he had never touched a basketball he would surely have excelled at something else. If other NBA superstars would not have played basketball they would most likely be burdens to society.
This video is a tribute to the greatest man to ever play professional sports!!! If my son grows up to be half the man Dave is, then i'm a proud father. He's not only a GREAT role model for sports kids, but for the world in general. Name me another player who's given more of his "own" money to charity. The reason the Spurs are the "class act" of professional sports teams is because of my man David Robinson! He set our standards high.Thank You Dave.
I didnt mention it in my video description but thats the main reason he's my all=time favorite Spur/player. He's, in my eyes, a great person not just because of the accomplishments on the court but because of what he's done off the court. And he does it not to say "hey look at what Ive done," but because it's from his heart and that he knows people could benefit from his help.
Thanks for the feedback. That block was wild. The only other player his size that I saw do that was Hakeem. Those two guys had a speed for their size that was amazing.
Haha, love the fact that you put in some clips of him scoring on Olajuwon. David Robinson got so embarressed by the man we call "the dream" that even I felt bad for the poor "mvp".
sorry man but you need some facts before you can say that first robinson vs olajuwon the alltime match up was won by david. the other for the whole series the admiral was doubles and tripled team while the spurs had to single cover hakeem because of the great 3pt shooting they had. remember no one wins alone. shaq had penny and kobe , ewing had starks and jackson , hakeem had drexler and smith and david had aj and del negro. who do you think had the bigger load to carry?
Appreciate the feedback. I was trying to make the best Robinson mix I could with what little is out there of him. He was an amazing player. Another good mix is the David Robinson "Twilight" mix.

Saibecc1 2 years ago
Dont forget about Andrew Bynum, he has a higher ceiling than Howard IMO, if he can avoid injuries.
eilrruughei 2 years ago
bynum cant not be counted in that group at all. u could put bosh and dirk even thought there a C-PF hybrid
GoW1BallhArD 2 years ago
Are you serious? Look into Bynums numbers per minutes in the last two years. And he's only 22 yrs old. Or you could just look at Howards performance in the finals this year. Against a Bynum AT 80%! A healthy Bynum will be a dominant big man. Period. As far as big men in the NBA today, Bynum is EASILY top 5 if not top 3.
eilrruughei 2 years ago
Bynum is not even close to be in the same league as David Robinson. Robinson was a Phenom that will never happen again. Howard is close but he will never get there. David Robinson was a freak of nature which couldve had four more years of monster numbers if he didnt commit to the navy and never injured his back.
killzone21 2 years ago
I agree, there isnt a big man in the league on the level of Robinson in his prime. Bynum has a higher ceiling than anybody else right now though, IMO.
eilrruughei 2 years ago
@Saibecc1 I agreed with you somewhat a year ago, but by now I think it's clear that Howard's game is what it is. He's not going to progress offensively much more than he already has, and certainly he's not going to get near the skills, or touch, that Robinson had.
And yes, I was and am a huge fan of David Robinson, if it wasnt already obvious.
eilrruughei 1 year ago
@eilrruughei Agree! Robinson had great athletic gifts (like Dwight) and perhaps loses a little on strength to Dwight, but wins overall due to far superior skills, court coverage and court awareness. Robinson, Olajuwan, Ewing and possibly even Daugherty would beat Dwight overall. Shaq would beat him at his own game.
paksta 1 year ago
@paksta Shaq in his prime would have destroyed Howard. NOBODY, even Robinson, even Olajuwon, could have played Shaq straight up without help in his prime years, which IMO were 99-03.
eilrruughei 1 year ago
@eilrruughei hmmm, prime olajuwon could certainly hold something to prime shaq in my opinion. It would still be back and forth and olajuwon would struggle with Shaq's size.
newagepun 1 year ago
@eilrruughei in all fairness shaq was stong but he was also heavy , hurling his weight around.
grenadasblessed 1 year ago
him and duncan r da best big men ever in nba history, period.

You must have forgotten how Hakeem pretty much destroyed Robinson on a regular basis ;)

wrong one series because of the crappy team david had to carry vs the dream and glyde surrounded by a bunch of excellent role players the alltime series is in favor of david.

AKAmushroom 3 years ago 25
@AKAmushroom David Robinson was listed as 7'1'' 235 to Dwights 6'11'' 265 . . . . . . As of right now Robinson was a much more developed offensive player and Howard probably wont be that good . . but defensively I'd want Howard
UCMO15 1 year ago
@AKAmushroom RAPED would be a better term for what he would do to dwight. i still remember his quadruple double game agnst detroit way back then his 10 blocks were just amazing

i havent watched dwight much but i would still like the spurs to get him duncan could def learn him needs a center upgrade too

David in his prime could teach Dwight a thing or two. Dave was fast, quick and consistent...year after year..Dwight though is definitly built like dave.
alamoro 3 years ago 2
Mad Agree!!! They're built very similar, and both very agile for their size. But what made David so lethal was his touch! That sweet jumper could be hit from anywhere. That's where Dwight needs to improve. He can dunk but 40% from the line is just bad!
Bigmike3023 3 years ago 2
I have met Dave a few times. His biceps are the size of an average man's head. He's a monster.

Dwight plays more of a power game than David ever did. David was more of a combination of power and finesse. Howard is raw power on every possession.
Powerhouse233 4 years ago
The Admiral was a fucking beast in his day. Dude could do it all. Everytime I see D-Howard play, it reminds of me The Admiral. Only thing Howard needs to work on is his jumper.
Robinson is that dude......one of the best big men to ever do it.
acceptmyfaults 4 years ago 5
David never really had that much talent around him either. That says alot about him as a player being able to carry a franchise without another star until Timmy came in 10 years later. I agree that Dwight Howard resembles him more than any player right now. Dwights great.
Saibecc1 4 years ago
@Saibecc1 Only similarity I see between Howard and Robinson is the athleticism. Robinson was a far more skilled player offensively, and as good or better defensively. Nowadays they give out defensive player of the year based on blocked shots, as far as I can tell. Robinson would have won it a few times based on that criteria.
eilrruughei 1 year ago
@acceptmyfaults Robinson was also a lil bit higher than Dwight

The first great Spur I got to see from start to finish. The guy could run with the guards and jump out of the building. He could run around you, right through you, or jump over you. A perfect physical specimen if there ever was one.
How spoiled are we Spurs fans. W got to see one of the greatest centers of all time, and then, for an encore, the greatest power forward to play the game, Tim Duncan. Some teams would settle for seeing either one, but to get the chance to follow both, amazing.
dvs620 4 years ago 2
You cant forget Manu and Tony Parker as well. Thats why I try to watch as many of their games because you dont see players of their caliber come around that often especially to one franchise. We're definitely spoiled.:)

D-Rob is my favorite player of all time, n in my opinion the best center ever play the game. Why? Cuz he had the package, when he arrives to the NBA he change the typical center who only has to post under basket. DRob was quick like a small fwd, great jump shooter, dunker, rebounder, shot blocker. The number reveals how great he was. Even when Olajuwon dominate Rob in the 95 serie, DRob was great cuz he was guarding the Dream alone meanwhile Houston was @ some times triple team defending Robinson
cirexlab 4 years ago
David Robinson has served his family, God, country and community with great love, honor and distinction. How many men, let alone athletic superstars, could make the same claim? He is a superstar both on and off the court.
nosocialfootprint 4 years ago
David Robinson is truly a great man.

50dave50 4 years ago 2
I didnt mention it in my video description but thats the main reason he's my all=time favorite Spur/player. He's, in my eyes, a great person not just because of the accomplishments on the court but because of what he's done off the court. And he does it not to say "hey look at what Ive done," but because it's from his heart and that he knows people could benefit from his help.

saturndual32 hit it on the head. A perfect montage of the Admiral's offensive & defensive greatness.
That block on Kenny Smith was unreal!

Thanks for the feedback. That block was wild. The only other player his size that I saw do that was Hakeem. Those two guys had a speed for their size that was amazing.

Haha, love the fact that you put in some clips of him scoring on Olajuwon. David Robinson got so embarressed by the man we call "the dream" that even I felt bad for the poor "mvp".
maxpeezaay 4 years ago
sorry man but you need some facts before you can say that first robinson vs olajuwon the alltime match up was won by david. the other for the whole series the admiral was doubles and tripled team while the spurs had to single cover hakeem because of the great 3pt shooting they had. remember no one wins alone. shaq had penny and kobe , ewing had starks and jackson , hakeem had drexler and smith and david had aj and del negro. who do you think had the bigger load to carry?
