Ok, this might sound like a stupid question, but I have never gone duck hunting but want to go next year, so I am trying to learn as much as possible before next season. I have noticed when ducks come, people just shoot at the flock, but from what I understand, you can only take one female a day. How can you tell if your shooting at a mallard when they are that far away? Or what breed of duck even? Is it in the call or in the decoys? I really have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to duck lol
@KIEDKIEDKIEDKIED First, if you haven't taken a hunter safety course, do that. Then you need to study the regulations for your area to learn how many ducks you can take, what kind of shotgun and shot you can use, and the seasons and hours of legal shooting. Then you need to learn how to identify ducks in the air (and the difference between hens and drakes).
@Mr13born79 I should probably say "you'll wound and not recover birds if you shoot at the flock instead of individuals." That's a bad miss that you don't want to do.
We were hunting in two rivers wisconsin! Last weekend of duck hunting. Finally got some good action and actually got 14 that weekend. What a great end to the season!

@KIEDKIEDKIEDKIED And never shoot at a flock. You'll usually miss. Pick your target...individual bird or clay pigeon one at a time.
