UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I JUST UGHH MIND FUCK UGHHH
Its more the fact that the government is going to try to seize control of the prices of healthcare which will eventually drive the entire thing into the ground. Government subsidies will make the costs higher without actually increasing quality. Don't belive me look at schools...
@MandragGanon 100% agreed. there is no aspect of risk or competition in a state run healthcare system so there is no incentive to develop more cost effective procedures.
stupid ... the "reform" ensures another 30 million or so have to pay private insurers for shitty "coverage" they don't need. But the emergency room will still be full of medicaid patients and illegal immigrants.
This is terific, funny, and poignant. Sadly, too many Tea Partiers and other neocons will not see the parody and actually believe that this satire is real. I'm surprised Donald Trump hasn't parroted every word of this....
We need insurance companies that cover things we couldn't normally pay for...say...surgeries, injuries, serious illnesses, etc.
To expect an insurance company to provide you with more and more stuff for "free," the competition that lower prices are removed, and doctors have to hire groups of people to do the constant stream of insurance paperwork (thus rasing costs further) it's no wonder the companies jump on any and every opportunity to not cover you.
Nothing is ever free. Something has to come out of someone's pocket. Healthcare is expensive atm for two reasons.
1. It costs a hell of a lot in time and effort to become a doctor. If you spent well over 20 years and thousands of dollars to get a job, wouldn't you want money for it?
2. Insurance not only makes running a clinic more expensive, but also reduces the need to compete for costumers. Both of these will increase costs.
How much the military budget request for 2011: $1.223 trillion
Amount of money spent on healthcare in the United States in 2008: $2.3 trillion.
So if we got rid of the military COMPLETELY (which I am for, but not instantaneously) we could cover half the costs of healthcare. Even if the prices go down thanks to the one national insurance company (which they wouldn't, it would probably go up), it's not nearly enough.
@TombaFanatic the question is what do you count in those 2,3 trillion? Perhaps insurance money? and why not just cut insurance out of the picture all together?
But you won't get rid of insurance, you'll just be making the insurance company (the US gov) a monopoly. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but our government can barely handle social security.
It also doesn't adress the issue that when people believe something is free, they take more than they normally would. This is one reason costs are so high.
Another reason is that competition usually drives new expensive products cheaper. Something a lack of competition hasn't done.
@TombaFanatic the Insurance (if you wish) would be taken from the taxes and given to the hospitals for helping those who need it. Allot better then into some greedy man/woman's pocket if you ask me.
Even if they "take more" healthcare is nothing you should be scarce about because a healthy population in not only more productive but less likely to die in the first place.
"competition" can still be stimulated and it wont affect "product costs" since thats other companies who makes the meds.
I understand it would be taken from taxes. I don't support taxes either, but yes, I would figure this system would be more conveniant then the current situation we have (provided taxes don't go up any more than the price of insurance).
By "take more" I meant use it more than they need. Allergies? Free medication. Cold? Free medication. Worried about the flu? Take you're yearly free shot. So many people spend so much on what they don't need, increasing the costs.
@TombaFanatic medication wouldnt need to be free but check-ups and treatment for injuries/sickness should be (long time medications could get a limit in how much they have to pay before it becomes free for the year out)
This has proven to work in several countries.. and i think Cuba is one of the best?
Yes, it does work in some countries, but I just don't see it working in our large nation that historically does not trust the government nor has the government historically done a good job at giving those who don't trust it a reason to.
Also, best healthcare in the world is Japan. It's not socialized nor is it completely private. I agree with you, we NEED reform, but socializing it isn't the best way.
@Dasmaster1 i cant say many governments actually does what they say and only break the trust... i cant understand why they do it so badly...
Also Japan might be the best but i said one of the best though dont japan have a huge number of alternative medicine treatments readily available? Im not saying they are all bad but there is allot of black sheep in that family...
That's the issue with insurance companies right now. For one reason or another, people expect them to pay for everything. Insurance companies can't make money, so they jump on every opportunity to cut spending.
What makes you think the government wouldn't do the exact same thing? Only reason I believe it would be better is that statistically speaking, it would not affect me health wise and it would save me money.
But I don't believe a vast majority of the people will get better care.
I think that one of the key issues of the current ObamaCare reform proposition is that individuals who do not meet a qualifying criteria(degenerative disease) could be denied healthcare especially later in the life cycle. Maybe death panel is too suggestive. A more accurate name would be, The we hope you manage to survive on your own, but we can't afford to help you anymore- panel. ;P
I really enjoy these cartoon and I especially enjoyed the earlier funnier episodes that featured GWB
What are you even talking about? There is absolutely no such provision anywhere in any of the bills being negotiated. In fact the bills all aim to do explicitly the opposite of what you say they do.
There isn't even such a thing as "ObamaCare", but once something passes and a few years later people generally like it you'll probably start referring to it as ReaganCare.
Do you make up your own lies from time to time, or do you always just parrot the ones fed to you by Fox?
Ok you got me, there is no ObamaCare, but there is a current HealthCare Reform Bill.
I was referring to concerns over this statement: Dr. Ezekiel Emanual, Healthcare Policy advisor to president Obama. 2007
"Conversely, services provided to individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens are not basic and should not be guaranteed."
I appreciate that you realize that the president wants to pass this bill while it is still being negotiated ;)
I know that you didn't take this quote out of context on your own. It was spoon fed to you. This advisor a) has nothing to do with the legislation being proposed and b) is a thoughtful bioethicist, which means that people of less-than-honest intentions can always find something in his writings to present in a way that completely distorts the original meaning.
Always interesting and creative, the producer(s) of the video are obviously very talented. However, a more balanced presentation of facts would , in my opinion, have made for better educating the public as to what the real facts are and not what the two headed political monster [D's & R's] claims are the truths. Yes, I do get the satire and thinks it's well done. Thanks again for another thoughtful and thought inducing video. Looking forward to the next. :)

@TombaFanatic How about taking some of the military budget and use it so anyone at any time can go to a hospital and get treated?
That way you dont need insurance at all
