-Cute bit, -AJ posing as an audience heckler from hell that just wouldn't quit decrying the up-beat tempo for "Impossible Dream", and JJ doing his best to ignore him; -then the segway into AJ's stirring stage-performance wherein he goes for the Star-note as a finale! Then the one-upmanship of AJ stealing much of the DonkeySerenade, while JJ finally gets-in edgewise; --then they make a grand team to the magnificent raucous conclusion! Great entertainment which has sadly disappeared today...!!!
How can you not imediately like and respect the talent of Allan Jones? Jack got the good looks and is an o.k. singer, but his father was supremely talented.
OMG...old times..amazing that Jack Jones had so much love/respect for this father...in so many of the videos on utube, he's always talking about his dad...getting teary...so beautiful and classy..thanks for posting..
The Donkey Serenade is brilliant from father and son. Jack Jones can swing with the best of them. And listen to the band! Amazing musicians and arrangements. Never tire of it.
It's so interesting how Jack totally diverged in his singing style compared with his Dad. Alan clearly loved the operatic whereas Jack was quite the opposite. Very enjoyable~thanks so much for this incredible post!
I don't know if I have so enjoyed watching a You Tube video as much as this one! Thank you so much for posting it! Allan Jones was truly a great singer who in this video shows he still has it! His son Jack is obviously better known now then his father and a fine and successful singer in his own right, but I hope this video will lead to people of today learning about his father whose "Donkey Serenade" from the film "The Firefly" was a huge hit!
Can't tell you how much I enjoyed that! I remember seeing that show on tv when it first aired. Never thought I'd ever get to see it again. Many thanks
For me, the firefly is one of the best Jeanette Mc donald's movie and the donkey serenade by Allan Jones the best moment. A pleasure to watch him with his son, Jack, one of the best crooners.
Best full-throated, totally sincere operatic version of Impossible Dream - and believe me...I've looked long and hard!

I kinda liked this up beat version of "Impossible Dream" at the beginning. Does anyone know if there is a version like this, that Jack Jones sings?

One of the most moving versions of Impossible Dream you could ever see and hear.
The boy is now doing it in his current show. Very well too, it brought the house down.
