Paul Rodgers and Paul Kossof...Two of the best teamed up in one great band..that I got to enjoy while they were putting out albums (LPs),,,Check out Kossof's band before he died called "Crawler" they put out some tasty tunes...
im only 18 but when i sit and listen to free or like humble pie etc i feel like an old guy sittin goin.. "ahh remember when music was pure and had feelin!" as if i was there.. but i wasnt.. fake nostalgia!
Nearly sixty and flogged Free when around eighteen but watching this what amazing musicians and the lead voice is like a choir in itself... appreciate it much more today... also saw them live... pure rock... thanks Youtube for a allowing us to relive our past so easily.
Attention Drummers/musicians!!! Get the book "realistic rock" by Carmine Appice!! If you like 60's-70's rock drumming it's the Bible. It turned my hopeless brother into a real rock guy. He would work on it every day and half way through the book and after learning the first Zeppelin record beat for beat he would go back to the jams and sound exactly like Simon Kirk of Free and Bad Company...with bonham fills to boot. It could save rock drumming im serious. Amazon.com
@TheGrabsplatter No, Koss was for me the most Underrated Guitarplayer ever ! Its so sad that he was gone so early , for me still the best Guitarplayer ever !
the magic to this song is the tension - they play with such restraint, any minute it could break loose but they keep it under control - simon's drums and the fat bass push it - godamn beautiful stuff here
It shouldn't matter what kids grow up with. I know it does - but fuck, the musics out there, find it! Anyone interested in good music should know this. You don't have to be 50 to dig this - you can be 12 for all I care. It's sad though that very few people my age even know who Free is. Great band, Kossof had one of the meanest vibratos, Fraser had a wholly unique and brilliant style, and Rodgers is, well, he's Paul Rodgers.
Totally agree dude! But kids nowadays have far more ways to find out... When I was a kid the only way to find new good stuff was to think "hey this guy has made a cover of this band I don't know , I ve got to check it out at the record store..."
Paul Rodgers is one of my favorite singers. I must add that the quality of the songwriting, as a vehicle for the vocals, is a large part of what makes a singer able to perform it. i think why we dont hear young guys coming up with these kind of vocal chops is that they have grown up with metal instead of say, Ray Charles et. al.
this is interesting, I thought Paul Kossoff was partial to Marshall's. I think they were just forced to use the Beat Club's house gear for this, every recording I see from the Beat Club is with Orange amps lol.
awesome trio.kosoff was listening to green, meaning, all his licks are greens. a few more years and he may have had the vibrato. gotta love these brits and les pauls. green and kirwan are the kings in charge.
@jetwagon you have a lot to learn. Kirke is one of the most intense drummers of all time and yet he does so little. He can change the entire feel of the song just by opening the hi hat slightly or using the crash on certain beats. its actually quite amazing.

In other words he does what any other half-way decent drummer can do. I don't need to learn anything. I've been playing music for over 25 years.
It doesn't take a genius to see that all of Kirkes beats are basically the same. Yeah, he's got excellent meter. Yeah, his playing is tastefully understated. But that kind of playing only goes so far. So everyone line up and start bashing me...I don't care...what I've said is true whether you like it or not, but more importantly...fuck you.
notes are just notes. No matter how fansy or simple they are if the player doesnt feel it, it wont sound. And people like you fail to understand that.
Today's singers should be locked up in a room for 2 weeks and forced to listen to Paul Rodgers. Stevie Marriot and Jimmy Dewar before even being allowed to sniff a stage.
To be able to improvise with that amount of control over phrasing and vibrato..it's just, Incredible!.....I think it's a thing called TASTE!, Someday I hope to acquire it...
they meant it.

Paul has got some great pipes and still does, the other Paul really knew how to make his guitar sing, whether thru an Orange or a Marshall.
