Even without the 25 percent loss in power due to the AWD system the mustang has two more cylinders and half the weight. Not to mention gearing not set up for towing. but figure a mustang is about 4 grand, can get astros if you look in good shape for around 1 g, take even half of that remaining 3 grand and the mustang would get destroyed, Dollar for dollar the astro not only has better handling, different, but more controlable, but capable of huge power numbers also.

@JoshuaBaldwinBrown AWD system in the quarter mile cost the van 3.25 seconds. If it would have been rear only would have been much quicker. Also less restrictive top end on EFI models. Yes The EFI heads were better, despite the Vortecs inovation as a whole. The Vortec was set up for towing (high to midrange power,high torque curve, gas milage), the EFI was more low range horse power and still high torque curve. EFI also wasnt governed at 100 miles an hour.

Third, you assume the Astro is stock. For all we know yVanhalen5150 could have swapped the drivetrain out of a GMC Syclone/Typhoon or even just a SBC into the Astro (both possible), which with a bit of tuning would make this scenario easily possible. Or... the driver of the Subie missed a shift (shitty driver) and got greased by an Astro. Take your pick.
