My so. cal shop just bought an old tennesee-raced ministock 510. It has a long- stroke motor- at least a z24 crank- we've not ripped it down yet. The guys who sold it to us didn't realize it was necessary to index the spark plugs and couldn't get it running right due to the smashed electrodes. Pretty much bought it for a song. 510s are lots of fun. This car has an R180 4.88 welded locker rear and my street car has an R180 4.11 LSD, which i was fortunate to find. i'm collecting parts for a motor.

@jeffdahottie69 I posted my positive comment on the 510 based on facts backed by all the car magazines of the 1969-72 era. Back then, the BMW in question was the 2002. Like it or not, that car is a legend in car connoiseur circles. They were highly desirable, but not everybody could afford one. When the Datsun 510 came on the scene, it was the first affordable car with independent rear suspention. Hence the " poor man's BMW " tag.

Was painted a deep Porsche Red. All the chrome gloss black. Trim was black crinckle paint. Blacked out windows, 69 camaro highback buckets. Ever heard of Becker Woofers? ( excellent in 1983-84) 2-10's with zapco 150. Inside car was louder n cleaner than modern concerts. Could HEAR my music coming from 7 blocks!! AND was a total 280z killer! Thanks again!

Mine had the 1600 punched out to a 1730, mild cam, weber sidedrafts, hooker header into 2 turbo mufflers, (pick-up trans, driveline, ujoints, rearend), lowered, fender flares, bmw front air dam, rear wide 13 50's, front wideish 14 60's.
