This video is very old, SL has evolved a lot since this was made. Unfortunately for SL other social networking forums like Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter have come along allowing people easy access to social networking, unlike SL which has a steep learning curve of about a month just to get the basics. SL is a good platform if you're an artist, or even a role player. I personally use it as a sort of first person shooter with a small community of about 5000 like minded people.
i am a member od second life. i have been for 3 years. i have a real life, a real job, a boyfriend, yet im most content in second life. people have become millionaires thru business in SL. a job is a job. supply and demand. i worked as manager of one of the largest GNG sims on SL and i promise its work.

I strongly believe if individuals and even a group of people can make a living in real life by working hard in SecondLife. This one video is a big example of a number of people that has already done so. This is the 21st Century and beyond.

As stated in the video, you can trade virtual dollars for real ones. She is a Graphic Artist, which is a real world profession. For her, Second Life is the advertiser, distributor and location; not having to pay for, or deal with all that in the real world is better than whatever you're doing.

I dont have a problem with the concept of Second Life whatsoever, a wonderous virtual world fashioned by ones mind. Only those with narrow minds and a lack of vision fail to comprehend. The problem I have is with many of the people who go there. You'll find lying and deception is common, most folks are married and in their 40s-50s pretending not to be to get away from an ailing marriage. The ones to be weary of are those who say 'they seperate RL and SL'- the do this when they wish to live a lie
i think it's awesome....i love second life, no waiting in line for hours to get into a club, can make friends and meet new people from all over the world... it's pretty sad going into the real world and people cut you off, or walk away while your talking to them,some have brought these bad habits in with them, but for the most part i enjoy my perfect little virtual world, inventing and reinventing
I'm a tiny in secondlife, some go to secondlife when reallife becomes too much to bear. singers are more of an in thing right now. virtue concerts, christmas parties, secondlife is more of a social place. I originally gone to secondlife was because of three things but one I've found that is easier to make things on SL then on IMVU.
Second Life has shot themselves in the foot by flooding the market with too much land. Land is KEY. It boils down to ignorant greed, they want to rake in the tier payments without regard to sustainability.

I have one thing I am wondering about second life.... I don't understand how in a virtual world where everything is possible, things look so unimaginative, un-inspired and feels like simply reproducing things of the real world (human-looking avatars wearing g-strings and driving SUV's).
I have never used second life, but is it all there is to it? It does not look very enriching compared to, say "TRAVELER", which seemed more people/idea oriented.
People on here that keep saying making money off SecondLife is making money by "doing nothing", that's like saying people who make a living writing books or creating in some sort of art media besides 3D don't have a real job. After all, they usually just sit in front of a computer or canvas and "do nothing". There's an art in just about everything on SL, and it does take alot of work to make things people will actually buy.

@TheGameBoyTV Owning a profitable and legitimate way of business within the virtual world is serious stuff even if its in second life alot of people make good amount of money. That's understandable, Making friends online is all good too. But imo I find it very disturbing when grown adults start having 'relationships' within the virtual world rather than dealing with their physiological issues, and have fake sex online with people they've never seen or met before.
I understand what your getting at, but not every user in Second Life ends up having Sex with someone they dont know. And what I'm getting at, is that about 80% of users aren't on Second-life just to get hooked up.
@crazybrity Actually knowing how popular Pixel Dolls is I am sure hse makes alot more than 1000. That being said, its incredibly hard to find a niche which will make you that kind of money. and anything that does make you alot of money often requires quite alot of money to be spent.

You'll teleport into a square shopping mall area and tucked into one of the corners of that mall, you'll find the entrance to a free items store full of clothing, and other things.
This is the new generation of comunication and entreteniment, i´m glad to be part of this universe, i´m a creator too and also play a RP game of DCS2 in a continent called Nations of Remembrance NOR. Not eazy to describe what is be inside the metaverse.
Anyone who says that making things in second life isn't hard work needs to open their eyes and take a good long look at just how hard it really is. It's actually alot like making an animation or a video game. I mean, do you think that halo and cod were made in a couple hours? @SaraKristin1 Second life is free game, but you can have a premium account so maybe you push the wrong buttom!!!! and the 2nd if you are not 18 years old, as i know , SL can ask you about something as credit card to know weather you parents know about game you want to play as not all things there are good for kids! Second Life It is more like a 3D modeling-mecca for techies as well as a 3D chat room where you can actually see a representation of the person you are speaking to.
Those who cannot manage the learning curve of the software or do not already use it in their real-life jobs (architects, construction and city planners, artists, etc. all use 3D modeling) will use it more as a visual chatroom to meet people around the world. Those who can build make real $

Im sorry that SL doesnt have the insane mindbending graphics that are common in games like call of duty and crysis but you are missing the point. What SL does have is a "metaverse" that is not constricted by levels or rank or points. It's pure digital freedom and no other "game" comes close to matchings it's complexity.

@Rizen018 Well, in SL, buying Lindens every now and then myself, I have noticed that $L4000, is about $15 AUD, and $18ish USD. So she would have to sell a LOT of clothes, just to make 20 bucks in a week. >_> (From an estimated guess =p )

I have one thing I am wondering about second life.... I don't understand how in a virtual world where everything is possible, things look so unimaginative, un-inspired and feels like simply reproducing things of the real world (human-looking avatars wearing g-strings and driving SUV's).
I have never used second life, but is it all there is to it? It does not look very enriching compared to, say "TRAVELER", which seemed more people/idea oriented.
Sorry if my "wondering" sounds a bit harsh.

People on here that keep saying making money off SecondLife is making money by "doing nothing", that's like saying people who make a living writing books or creating in some sort of art media besides 3D don't have a real job. After all, they usually just sit in front of a computer or canvas and "do nothing". There's an art in just about everything on SL, and it does take alot of work to make things people will actually buy.

SL is another way for people to meet new people and have a second life thats fun, safe, good for the imagination etc its somthing better then all the damn problems in this world like Who's gonna be the next political leader to lead us into the ground? pfft Im Extreemly proud to be an SL resident Too, im Derinda Riegler in this virtual wonderland and im happy to say i have 3 jobs and a damn good time in SL...Anyone that says people in SL need a RL...should get one themselves

@TheGameBoyTV Owning a profitable and legitimate way of business within the virtual world is serious stuff even if its in second life alot of people make good amount of money. That's understandable, Making friends online is all good too. But imo I find it very disturbing when grown adults start having 'relationships' within the virtual world rather than dealing with their physiological issues, and have fake sex online with people they've never seen or met before.

@crazybrity Actually knowing how popular Pixel Dolls is I am sure hse makes alot more than 1000. That being said, its incredibly hard to find a niche which will make you that kind of money. and anything that does make you alot of money often requires quite alot of money to be spent.

This is my problem too.
I didn't like the clothes they gave me so I started to change my wardrobe around, but now I wish I hadn't.
I feel like I am the laughing stock of 2nd Life.
I just want to create one decent outfit so I can walk in 2nd Life without getting laughed at wherever I go.
I'd be willing to go back to the original outfit only I am afraid I lost it.
This might be a dumb question but how does somebody go about just creating jeans & a t-shirt?

@TomRoykouffVideos, You can do an in world search for a place called Forou Center - Bargain Stores. Choose the one that's in a sim called Chromex. You'll teleport into a square shopping mall area and tucked into one of the corners of that mall, you'll find the entrance to a free items store full of clothing, and other things.

Anyone who says that making things in second life isn't hard work needs to open their eyes and take a good long look at just how hard it really is. It's actually alot like making an animation or a video game. I mean, do you think that halo and cod were made in a couple hours? Animators and video game designers do ALOT more work than someone sitting in a cubicle. Just because we don't sweat doesn't mean we're not working.

@SaraKristin1 Second life is free game, but you can have a premium account so maybe you push the wrong buttom!!!! and the 2nd if you are not 18 years old, as i know , SL can ask you about something as credit card to know weather you parents know about game you want to play as not all things there are good for kids! (but about 2nd i heard only ones.....im playing for free and dont have any problems)

Second Life It is more like a 3D modeling-mecca for techies as well as a 3D chat room where you can actually see a representation of the person you are speaking to.
Those who cannot manage the learning curve of the software or do not already use it in their real-life jobs (architects, construction and city planners, artists, etc. all use 3D modeling) will use it more as a visual chatroom to meet people around the world. Those who can build make real $

People could just spend 15 minutes a day working on their fat bodies and change their diet and they would be gaining real results very quickly. Instead they live in an alternate world...mind you that's almost the same thing as mental patients in facilities...they live in a fantasy world too..

Im sorry that SL doesnt have the insane mindbending graphics that are common in games like call of duty and crysis but you are missing the point. What SL does have is a "metaverse" that is not constricted by levels or rank or points. It's pure digital freedom and no other "game" comes close to matchings it's complexity.

Maybe I'll get bad feedback for saying this but I think she's being selfish. Someone with her talent could do a lot of good in the world...like the REAL world. So what if there's "bumper to bumper" traffic and "water cooler gossip"? There's a lot of good too and if these "SL" people keep sheltering themselves from the bad things in life, then they're going to miss out on all the good stuff too. I'll take my life over a "second life" any day of the week. Problems and all. God speed, people.

@ MissCedarbridge: Hey I'm all for having fun, my opinion is just that there's no substitute for the real world, no matter how "realistic" this "Second Life" is made to be. I'm sure you can play Second Life and still enjoy the real world, I just think the whole idea is sketchy. People get disconnected from reality.
