I find that very hard to believe. How do you know you were 'not' a frog or 'insect' in the previous life. You don't, your assuming things that can't be proven. With out punishment, means that there is no attonment for sins, which means that you will die a sinner, which means its impossible to become a higher being after death.

Physically at least we evolved from lower forms of life. All life is interconnected at a molecular level. We are part and particle of all that is. So even a frog and an insect is something precious and a part of ourselves. Punishment doesn't atone for sins or make you pure. Understanding is what changes you. In Karma, we learn through the process of suffering and decay to be more understanding of one another.
