Wesley Willis was an amazing performer who will be missed. He was a man who had everything stacked against him in life - even his own mind often worked against him. But you know what? He still brought it, every day of his life. With no outside help, no formal training and no reservations. He loved to make music that people loved to listen to. Rock over London, rock over Chicago!
@MrWildtizzle He was a tremendous artist too. His sketches of Chicago scenes are amazing in their intricate details. Wesley had it rough, no question. I just hope his music and his art made his too-short time on this earth happier.
i don't listen to him cause of "he has problems or disadvantages and that;s good for his well being" hell no i listen to him cause he makes me laugh and his songs are catchy
@SeanIsaacBillings "music" ? his musics good dude. His lyrics are awesome, and it doesnt matter that hes a little off. It adds to the soul. And its not awesome to watch because retarded people are funny. Its awesome cause hes on stage doing whatever the fuck he wants. He probably knew it too.
People may have disliked Wesley's music for whatever stupid or strange reason, but if you had a problem, or disliking to Wesley as a person, there was something wrong with you. Wesley Willis was probably the friendliest man Rock ever knew, or ever will know.
@SeanIsaacBillings Are you really so cynical that you can't imagine that his fans might actually care about him? He was likely a better salesman than you'll ever be.
Holly fuck balls. I thought this was some kind of joke, I didn't realise this guy existed, had fans and apparently 125 thousand followers. Good on him.
I don't know how famous Wesley was in contrast to like Nirvana and Red Hot Chili Peppers but... if he came out now imagine the scrutiny he would face. People are just brutal nowadays.
i respect the guy because of what he went through in life. he had a bad way. and you know his music isnt "talent" it isnt "good", his lyrics arent "clever" but something draws people to him, not sure what it is but i think its good.
holy shit he played LIVE?!?!? you mean ppl didnt immediately run for the door? was he "performing" at a comedy club? there is no way ppl would actually go somewhere to specifically listen to this full grown crack baby, then again this world is full of tasteless imbeciles.
>.< apparently @Mpoconnor7's mother also smokes crack rocks.
He was definitely a one of a kind type artist, like Frank Zappa and Weird Al Yankovic. I was fortunate enough to see Wesley perform in Detroit in 1996. Bought a bunch of his CD's and paid 100 bucks for one of his poster board drawings of the Chicago skyline. I wish I had purchased more of his art, as similar Chicago drawings of his are selling for 1500 to 3000 dollars today.
No he was a true hero, who despite his problems, was able to break through and sell funny ass albums and express himself, while at the same time, making money
okay lets get the facts straight, people went to his concerts and bought his albums because they felt sorry and had sympathy for the guy, but despite that fact he still was a nice guy :)
I still don't see why so many people like him. His music is terrible, i dont care if he's retarded. All his shit is keyboard beats with an idiot hollering like an fuckin monkey
@cdawghimself maybe he sucks maybe he is retarded. not the point, people dug this stuff cause if he can do it so can the rest of us. this is honest music and way better than justin bieber or the latest gnr album
He was amazing! I love how someone who had nothing but disadvantages thrown at him still rose up to do what he loved most and became relatively successful. Yeah people laugh but it's what Wesley wanted, to entertain. I'm happy he chased his dream and didn't do what a lot of assholes think handicapped people should do and sit in a room until they die so no one can hear their voice for fear someone might laugh at them. Fuck all of you, seeing what he did and how he was happy should shut you up.
@mistercockandballs he did have the advantage of size though... he was friggin' HUGE. well over 6 feet and weighed at least a few hundred pounds, I can't quite remember. At least that probably deterred attackers when he was making his music, thankfully. I love his songs, they are so simplistic yet eye opening.
@SeanIsaacBillings I got you man, it seems like a lot of people would pretend to enjoy his music, in a live show, but I think some people actually enjoy this for whatever reason......
I don't really care for this music, and I understand what you're saying, but you shouldn't have called this "music".
I love this guy he never gave up his dream . He just kept on trying and never gave up and for that . I have much respect for the guy so much. Plus his music always makes me laugh and have such a great day .
god... such a great man. and i'm not even sarcastic. I do feel bad for his issues. But he continued to do whatever the hell he wanted. fuck the haters. I wish I could have gotten a headbutt and a hug from this man before he died... sadly only discovered him around 6 years ago...
haha, to sum up all his songs: a strange 80s drum guitar beat comes in, he rants about wierd shit, and then yells the chorus. RIP Wesley Willis. Love you man.
@crashthepopularkids it's a bruise from all the head bunting he give his fans as a way of saying "HELLO! MY NAME IS WESLEY WILLIS!! NICE TO MEET YOU!" :)
I seen em live in Detroit around '95 - '96. i remember him doing a radio interview for 101.1fm. They were making fun of him before he started cuz he was sleeping in his car in the parking lot before the interview. It was hilarious. Loved this guy. i still listen to a couple of his cd's. ROCK OVER LONDON, ROCK ON CHICAGO! BUDWEISER, IT'S THE KING OF BEERS!
...no flames yet...Zejex15, i'm a huge WW fan & admirer. But i think it's fun & interesting to think about that possibility.Too often I hear simple & patronizing interpretations of who WW is as a person & as an artist.
I don't believe that all he cares about is the $, that seems too simple also, but not in the same way that usually gets assigned to him.Another fun idea is that his whole persona was an act to sell himself & his music. The man's a genius no matter how you slice it .LONG LIVE WW !
Poor Wesley...I miss you man. I banged-heads with him...screamed at him...loved him. Except when he invaded the restroom!!!!! HA HA! What an iconic American man. Running my inkpen...
I don't mean any disrespect. I can imagine some genuinely religious or spiritual folk thinking I am mocking their beliefs or behaviors , but I am not .
I just believe that MrMrPanPan is onto something, i'm feelin' it for real .
Considering his mental illnesses, he absolutely was talented. Despite everything he had to overcome, he still strove to perform. His ultimate goal was to entertain people and make them happy - and in that aspect, he succeeded. I can't speak for everyone, but Wesley Willis's songs always make my friends and I roar with laughter. Just because they aren't professional by today's standards, it doesn't make them great in their own right.
He was also a very very talented artist. Drawing buildings and the Chicago skyline and a bus here and there. He had talents that exceeded where some things we take for granted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PEACE AND SUCK A CHEETAS DICK!!!!!!!!!!
God rest his schizophrenic soul.
