  • Beautiful! ...too bad it's dubbed.

  • man the animation was so well done for so long ago. I wanted that bike so bad as a kid

  • THAT PEA BRAIN

  • so where can I steal a bike like that...........

  • @FullmetalX4 In a way, but that one is really something else. Compared to Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and the Ghibli films, it really isn't that much. It was a splendid apocalyptic film, but I just hope Mr. Anno doesn't plan to do that again for the Rebuild film series...

    Once is good enough!

  • everything is so tightly rendered...

  • Here is a test for you guys to see how much you know about Japanese (if you are interested and you don't have to do it). These are my favorite anime characters. Their names are in kanji format, so try to translate the kanji in english. Here is a hint: the second group of kanji (金田 正太郎) is Shotaro Kaneda...

They are 草薙 素子, 金田 正太郎, 綾波 レイ, 月野 うさぎ, ピカチュウ, エドワード・エルリック, and うずまき ナルト...

  • Neo Tokyo would be an awesome city to live in, baring the gang violence, corrupt government and psychic powers.

  • This isn't just one of my favourite animes of all time, this is one of my favourite movies period!

  • @B1SCOOP Grave of the Fireflies is also my favorite from Ghibli. I mean, it is just so cute and heart-stopping! If there is a film that shows us the TRUE meaning of war, it is Grave of the Fireflies...

  • @B1SCOOP Sorry! I forgot to put in ALL the works done by Studio Ghibli. They are all just so amazing and beautiful. But many say that Spirited Away is Ghibli's finest...

  • Out of all the anime out there, the most essential, I think, are Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Spirited Away.

  • @TheYuuzhan Grave of the fireflies deserves the top too! Nobody will regret watching it.

  • @TheYuuzhan ninja scroll!!! i haven't seen many anime full length movies, gonna have to check those other two out

  • @TheYuuzhan End of Evangelion as well. :)

  • If you guys are in school and your teachers or principals announce a competition on bringing the best or most essential animated films of all time, I dare any one of you to choose Akira. Yes, it is graphic and mature. But, it is VERY essential and it made anime/manga popular to the West!

  • this scene is fucking amazing !!. I love Akira :D

  • Its amazing

  • Just when my coil's reachin the green line!

  • Pause around 2:05 in the video to see a dismembered bloody foot in a garbage bag.

  • @aaronstrat12 hah is true,crazys japanish!lol,but exactly is 2:06

  • Akira such a great manga, old style hand drawn animation NO CGI. And tghe story and characters r just nothing like ur American style straight forward ones. The heroes r kinda reversed in Akira, u cud say anti-heroes even. So dark and gritty too. Wen Hollywood remake this, they'll completely wreck it, cus they wont stay true, it will look gritty maybe, but only in a stylish way, and the story/plot will b thin, with no thought provocation in it, same as the characters.

    Akira greatest ever Manga

  • @RaikenXion Manga is a comic book. This is classed as Anime.

  • @eldospinks Manga/Anime Its classed as same thing where Im from, and like I already sed, Akira is the greatest Manga ever

  • @RaikenXion I am also from Great Britain and it is classed as Anime over here as well. The company that first brought it out on home video went on to call itself Manga, so I guess that is where the confusion comes from.

  • @eldospinks I call it Manga so wot, u dont need to school me on the subject no1s getting awards here lol. Wot matters at the end of the day m8 is Akira is a classic MANGA, Ive read the original comic, and I luv the Movie equally. I cant tell if ur a fan or just sum1 who gets more enjoyment out of trying to lecture people over absolute trivial things lol, cus you havnt even mentioned anything wot u think about this Manga to me, u just seem more bothered about trying to school me lol.

  • @eldospinks Im a fan of this classic Manga, Im not a hardcore one, and I dont think I went on in anyway to suggest I think I know evrything bout this classic Manga at all. All I did was share my opinion this particular Manga which I admire so much. All u hav done to me is act like ur more focused on trying to school me, as if u dont like my original comment or sumthin lol. Akira is my fav all time Manga, Ghost in the Shell is my second, and I like Fist of the North Star alot too.

  • @RaikenXion Just wanted to stop yourself looking like a dick. Looks like I can't help those who don't want to be helped.

  • @eldospinks Now look whos getting annoyed lol, did I detect a slight hint of Insult there? lol. I want to ask y must u b so concerned how I make myself look?? (unless u really r just tryin to Insult me there which I think u r lol), Instead of just commenting on the video, and sharing your thoughts on this great Manga. Who care whether sum1 calls it Manga or Anime, Id hav expected a Japanese person themselves to take such a thing so seriously lol.

  • @RaikenXion I am from England, not Japan.

  • @eldospinks Ur from UK yes u already said, and I think u hav misunderstood wot I sed in my last commet, I was saying Id expect such schooling from a Japanese fan (considering it comes from their country). And wot makes u think Im less fortunate than you?? lol, plz dont tell me ur judging that by my spelling, or just simply cus I choose to call it Manga lol.

  • @eldospinks Understand every comment u hav replied to me recently comes across like ur trying to Insult me, or provoke a reaction lol. If this is the case ur not going to get one so carry on all you like, I dont Insult people on here, no matter how they reply to my comments, cus I think thats pathetic. Im the one who simply shared my opinions on this Manga, and ur the one whos more focused on Insulting a person for absolutely no reason lol. But hey, if it makes you feel better.

  • @RaikenXion Not trying to insult you, just patiently trying to explain to you that you are calling something by a name that is reserved for something else. It would be like saying that your favourite Spider-man film is your favourite comic.

But that if that is want you want to do, then I can not stop you.

  • @eldospinks "But that if that is want you want to do, then I can not stop you"

Well y try to pull me up on such a little trvial thing in the first place. Does it even matter?? lol, is this the Akira club for hardcore Akira fans where every person who comments on that Manga has to make sure everything they mention is spot on, or ur chucked out of the club?? lol. The point here m8 is it doesnt matter, wot matters is its a video where people share their opinions on it.

  • @eldospinks At the end of the day m8, it doesnt really matter, who cares?? only such hardcore comic bk, nerdy fans I guess, who wud take such a tiny little thing so seriously. They pick at every single little detail, and absolutely must correct any person who they think has gotten sumthing wrong. Guess Im not saying ur this type of person, but ur certainly acting alot like it. The point is it doesnt even matter.

  • @eldospinks You must hav read through my whole comment, and deliberately looked for sumthin that u cud pick at lol.

  • @eldospinks Even now you still havnt commented wot u think of Akira, but just seem more focused on arguing with me about wot I was supposed to hav called it lol.

  • @RaikenXion Only trying to help those less fortunate than myself.

  • For those of you who don't know, AKIRA was animated 24 frames per second. The cels were all hand painted and some of the heavily detailed backgrounds were obscured by layers of buildings. I can't just look at this scene as "an amazing animation" anymore, the effort put into these three minutes alone was phenomenal!! Love this movie or hate it, Otomo + crew are animation GODS.

  • @Schmotion I'm pretty sure most of animation in Akira is 12 fps, like in standard hand drawed cartoon. But some elements through movie are in 24 fps and look stunning, like that big round criogenic chamber pulled from the ground by Tetsuo. Watch some Disney classic and you'll see same quality.

  • @B1SCOOP

I watch Disney classics all the time :D and I know that the animators were inspired by Disney and used their method of "pre-scoring". I guess what I mean is that Akira's animation crew is comparable to Disney's... kinda hahahaha

  • @B1SCOOP That big round criogenic chamber you say is IMO one of the best scenes on this movie, you can really see there how detailed that part was made, and the perfection arise now on HD what else we want???

  • i didnt really like this i got bored watching this early this year. but since i started riding i like this alot now :)

  • They're making a remake and they're casting all white actors, but keeping their Japanese names. This is going to be a bigger steaming turd than the live action Dragon Ball or that hemorrhoid Airbender.

  • @hombreazu1 What's next? A remake of The Karate Kid that has nothing to do with Karate? Oh, wait, they did.

  • Theyre making a remake of this and its been americanised !

    set in new york :(

    /watch?v=BVecsnYZn_E

  • I just had sex...

  • The beauty about this is that everything was drawn with hands, no cgi just traditional media.

  • im not a huge fan of anime but i REALLY enjoy'd this movie. Start to finish flat out amazing

  • Haven't seen animation this beautiful before.

  • FRANS AT :57 !!!

  • The fastest bike in Saints Row the Third is named "Kaneda" :)

  • @youtubedude Whoa! really? What a cool reference to Akira! Another reason to buy the game!

  • @youtubedude there's a bike called Tetsuo as well :D or at least there is in Saints Row 2

  • Had to watch this awesomness to wash the thought of the Live Action Remake out of my head.

  • A classic.

  • i wanna live in neo tokyo

  • oh my god! the quality!

  • When I was eight I thought this was the best movie ever made. Even if I don't think that now, eight year old me is right and I'm wrong.

  • @jamesharvey Jesus Christ, you watched this when you were eight?

  • @TheHalfNerd Yeah.

  • the only reason im here watching this youtube vid is because i just recovered an origional video tape of this from my loft. Didnt know fo akira untill today. :O. Wonder how old it the tape is...........and it still works too!!

    -

  • @jvempire14 me too, in the manga Tetsuo became in charge of the Clowns after getting his powers and all the gangs in Neo Tokyo came after him. That wouldve been sick in the movie ..

  • I love the color in this movie. HI-Def FTW yet I still own both the HI-Def and regular old dvd for nostagliac purposes

  • Muy buena calidad.

  • i heard the manga had more of the biker gang warz after tetsuo becomes godlike. wish that got into the movie, cus this is my favorite scene in the movie

  • I'm go into full nostalgia mode when I hear that music...

  • のりたいかー鉄男!

    ピーキーすぎてお前には無理だよ。

  • F.Y.I. There is a human foot covered in blood in the alley scene (2:06).

  • This redub is bad, original english dub was better.

  • @VirtualAutonomy The original english dub wasn't faithful to the original script at all. Plus, the voice acting in this one is marginally better.

  • it is strange hearing tai from digimon say fuck lol

  • Streamline version is CLASSIC! There was no reason to redub it!

  • INCREDIBLE.. gradioso anime.. animacion increible.

  • wouldn't it be the other way around, Tron Legacy is alot like Akira since it came before and any dub with johnny yong bosch is BA!!!!

  • @BirthBS "any dub with johnny yong bosch is BA" i agree so much with that! sometimes i start to watch animes just because he's in there.

  • Streamline's dub was fucking atrocious. It sounded like they were just round-tabling the script and just happened to have the recorder on while they were doing auditions. Fucking terrible. This dub is much better.

  • @SoundsOfAndromeda hey which dub is this one when i buy the movie :)

  • EEEEEWWWWW Pioneer dub!

  • @TheChum12 yummmmmm pioneer dub! while i will admit both are bad, streamline's dub was far worse... THAT PEABRAIN!

  • Best part of the movie and the music is awesome!

  • @slamdunk12345 yeah this movie can be boring if you loose the plot. Give this movie another try, maybe you gonna love it.

  • @slamdunk12345 You got to give it a chance for its motor coils to warm up.

  • @slamdunk12345 lol u r a noob for not understanding.

  • @slamdunk12345 Are you serious? I thought Tron Legacy was awesome, through and through. Because it was.

  • @slamdunk12345 Tron Legacy was hard to understand?

  • @slamdunk12345 The first time I saw this movie was in 1987 in Japanese... with no subtitles.

Then I saw it in English with Dutch subtitles, which made loads more sense. I came to love it.

After all those years I'm still a big fan. What I would suggest is to re-watch it, and don't look away or go to the toilet with leaving it playing.

Also, when you read the books you'll find more appreciation for it, they are better then the movie in my opinion... and comparing it with Tron Legacy? nah...

  • @slamdunk12345 if something drove me to buy a bike was akira not tron (1982)

  • @slamdunk12345 and Tron Legacy has nothing to compare with akira.

  • this is true anime style. i respect to katsuhiro otomo.

freaking fashion girls/ fag emo charactor anime and other kiddy animation is crap.

  • @Hardgaymachineguns you sir are completely right!!!!!!

  • @Hardgaymachineguns Agreed, 99% of anime is complete trash. Akira and Studio Ghibli films fit into that 1% of quality animation. (Note: Its no better in western cartoons, if not WORSE).

  • Good upload, nice quality.. Epic scene

  • This remastered version of the english dub is way better then the original. They sounded retarded in the original. The new actors are bad ass.

  • i love the style of this movie, even though we have superseded alot of the technology shown in the movie, it still looks futuristic.

  • not only the greatest anime of all time, the greatest voice actor to go along :P

  • One of the best animes ever made

  • best animation ever. even today. period.
