I met your father when I came to Blackpool from Belfast in 1966 and hung out with the Wheels and Vicars. I saw him perform many times over the next year or so. He was truly fantastic, a strong charismatic performer who knew how to whip a crowd to hysteria. But his star status was underpinned by modesty, sincerity and an outgoing personality. He was already a legend when I met him . I'm just writing about him in a memoir and that's how I chanced upon your video. Great memories. Paul Murphy

As The manager of cabaret clubs in the 60's. I had the pleasure of working with Brian on several occasons. One hell of a nice guy and a great character. My fondest recolection of Brians act, was the end, He would sing Danny Boy, get all the audience singing along with him, then put down the mike and walk off stage. What a showman. R.I.P. Brian.

@RossiSinger My Favourite memory of Brian was when I was the manager of Martholme Grange. Brian was working for the week. He came to see me to ask if I would reserve a table for his friend Jim and his wife on the Wednesday. The doorman came and said Brian's mate Jim had arrived. I went into the foyer and this guy in the biggest sheepskin coat I had ever seen and a white stetson hat. We took his hat and coat and he said in a American drawl ' Watch the coat man ' It was P J Proby.
I remember Brian doing the Mecca circuit in the 1960's. I was a doorman at one of the dancehalls, he was always made welcome there, a great character. One day 4 of us doormen made prior arrangements and went to the Dolphin to meet up with Brian the following night. We had a great night,talking, laughing,drinking and telling yarns 'til God knows what time ! We were all saddened when we heard about his death .

I just thought I'd leave a comment on this wonderful tribute to your dad. I've been researching the NI R&B bands for another website when I came across this video. Normally all I find is lineups and precious little else from this period so it's amazing to find such a warm personal perspective. You can still buy 'Bad Little Woman' today, it's on a compilation called 'Nuggets II: Original Artyfacts from the British Empire and Beyond' so even now folks are still listening to The Wheels!

Well this takes me back a lot of years - i have probably seen your dad on stage more than most - as i used to be a chef at the cleveleys hotel in cleveleys nr blackpool- he did a couple of summer seasons there - just round the corner from the dolphin bar on the prom. He always used to tease me relentlessly about my cooking and was always a gent and a good laugh off stage as well ! he always used to open the show with The song diana - i can hear it now - happy days ! I met your father when I came to Blackpool from Belfast in 1966 and hung out with the Wheels and Vicars. I saw him perform many times over the next year or so. He was truly fantastic, a strong charismatic performer who knew how to whip a crowd to hysteria. But his star status was underpinned by modesty, sincerity and an outgoing personality. He was already a legend when I met him . I'm just writing about him in a memoir and that's how I chanced upon your video. Great memories. Paul Murphy

As The manager of cabaret clubs in the 60's. I had the pleasure of working with Brian on several occasons. One hell of a nice guy and a great character. My fondest recolection of Brians act, was the end, He would sing Danny Boy, get all the audience singing along with him, then put down the mike and walk off stage. What a showman. R.I.P. Brian.

@RossiSinger My Favourite memory of Brian was when I was the manager of Martholme Grange. Brian was working for the week. He came to see me to ask if I would reserve a table for his friend Jim and his wife on the Wednesday. The doorman came and said Brian's mate Jim had arrived. I went into the foyer and this guy in the biggest sheepskin coat I had ever seen and a white stetson hat. We took his hat and coat and he said in a American drawl ' Watch the coat man ' It was P J Proby.

I remember Brian doing the Mecca circuit in the 1960's. I was a doorman at one of the dancehalls, he was always made welcome there, a great character. One day 4 of us doormen made prior arrangements and went to the Dolphin to meet up with Brian the following night. We had a great night,talking, laughing,drinking and telling yarns 'til God knows what time ! We were all saddened when we heard about his death .

I just thought I'd leave a comment on this wonderful tribute to your dad. I've been researching the NI R&B bands for another website when I came across this video. Normally all I find is lineups and precious little else from this period so it's amazing to find such a warm personal perspective. You can still buy 'Bad Little Woman' today, it's on a compilation called 'Nuggets II: Original Artyfacts from the British Empire and Beyond' so even now folks are still listening to The Wheels!

Well this takes me back a lot of years - i have probably seen your dad on stage more than most - as i used to be a chef at the cleveleys hotel in cleveleys nr blackpool- he did a couple of summer seasons there - just round the corner from the dolphin bar on the prom. He always used to tease me relentlessly about my cooking and was always a gent and a good laugh off stage as well ! he always used to open the show with The song diana - i can hear it now - happy days !
