Do you know that Libyans who study abroad were given full scholarships, room and board by their govt.? Could they secure admission to schools abroad if they didn't have adequate education supervised by an Education Ministry? Can you see how you open your mouth and drool nonsense without thinking?
Could Libya have achieved all of this and had practically ZERO debt without proper supervision and input by experts? Can you country with all the PhDs in Economics that it boasts of claim to be debt free today? What about the man who is now presented as the head of the NTC? Was he not a Chief Judge under the Ghaddafi govt.? Does that not tell you that Libya had a Judiciary? Can you see why you aren't intellectually qualified to have this discussion?
Their banking system was just fine and functioned just as well as those of Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, etc with whom you do business. The ONLY difference was that the owed you - IMF, World Bank, Paris Club, and other Western loan shark organizations, ZERO debt. Funny enough, one of the FIRST things the NTC has done is to borrow money from European and American banks. And these funds are taken in the name of the Libyan people who had been debt free for decades.
Did you know that health care was free in Libya? Could that have been possible without proper planning, co-ordination and expertise provided and sponsored by the govt? Is health care free in your own country?

Most Libyans are very poor yet the country is rich on natural resources. If you asked a Libyan under Gaddafi if they would like to live in the west many would say yes. My point is that the notion that the west has bad intentions with everything it does seems very wrong to me. No western country is going to take the Libyan oil, so no big story about that happening will be published. However- Libya is a very wealthy country, but it has almost no functioning institutions, so for the Libyan people to be able to benefit from the wealth, they need a well functioning banking system, as well as all kinds of other new institutions. Everything will not be smooth sailing, far from it, I agree with that, but I don`t see an alternative- do you, and if so- what?

Do you know that Libyans who study abroad were given full scholarships, room and board by their govt.? Their banking system was just fine and functioned just as well as those of Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, etc with whom you do business. The ONLY difference was that the owed you - IMF, World Bank, Paris Club, and other Western loan shark organizations, ZERO debt. Funny enough, one of the FIRST things the NTC has done is to borrow money from European and American banks. And these funds are taken in the name of the Libyan people who had been debt free for decades.

@Titoscudd If you are trying to compare Libya under Gadaffi with a country in the western world you really need to study some more or look at things a little more objective. Most Libyans are very poor yet the country is rich on natural resources. If you asked a Libyan under Gaddafi if they would like to live in the west many would say yes. If you asked a westerner if they would like to live in Libya almost all would say absolutely not. It`s not because of the people, but because of the system.

The west helped because Gadaffi was about to go into Benghazi and the fear was that it would be a complete bloodbath. The west don´t want to turn Libya into anything but a democrazy but within this framework you can elect whichever government you want. What we are doing right now- exchanging opinions- is democrazy.

@Zarathustrasbrother Had Ghaddafi not pushed the rebels back from Misrata and other Eastern Libyan cities until they reached the gates of Benghazi where, rather than attack the city, the Libyan troops surrounded it and ordered the rebels to surrender. If Ghaddafi was intent on a bloodbath, wouldn't he have done it in Misrata and other cities which he had taken back from the rebels and held for weeks prior to NATO's actions? H
