  • YES

  • cawder - how do you find the jimmy fallon one. ( I know I am stupid, but you can help me out. I too am old)

Is that the one with STOMP? I would really like to hear that again.

  • Going to see him tomorrow, guest music on Conan. Hope it's good.

  • I love this song as much as Paul Simon's serious ones, but I wonder; or I worry that somehow the light-hearted songs that he writes and performs so well, that work so wonderfully could wind up taking away his serious artist cred among people who don't know there are two sides to everyone, and everything. I guess you just have to say, too bad. That's their loss.

  • @GeorgeHarrysSon He's Paul Fracking Simon he has so much "serious artist cred" that he can't hear you bitching over the sound of how awesome he is

  • Jubilation!

  • luv this vid, bud

  • =( it's kind of sad to watch, not?

  • Steve Gadd on drums. OOOOH, YES!

  • @Platschheimer Yep. Gadd has quite a history with Paul Simon. Goes way back to the 70s.

  • Sooooooooooo nice old martin guitar! I'd love to own one ;-)

  • he is getting old..

    we all are..

will be nice to se him in Istanbul on the 19th though..

was great once... and he still is.

  • had this been a cover, you would not have liked it very much, right? doesn't sound very good to me

  • He resembles Wayne in this one.

  • LWAO xD

  • This song is a special gift for my friend Cecilia Inos from Chile, enjoy it Cecilia.

Esta canción es un regalo especial para mi amiga Cecilia Inos de Chile, que disfrutan de Cecilia.

    :-)))))))))))))))))))))

  • this is a very poor rendition..great songwriter ..but needs Art to sing with him

  • @cawder Check the one he did in the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Mind-blowing.

  • @cawder Kind of like when Paul sings 'Bridge...". I ws shocked during their reunion show when Paul sang the sane verse and kind of butchered it. If ever a song was written for Art, it was that one. He (Paul) should have left his ego at the door and let Art sing his signature song as it should have been sung.

  • @stevedrums well art shud ov not shit on simon, what a arsehole ok.you tell me why they split up er

  • best song!!I Looove Paul***

  • @nonstoppharaohon

Art had the better voice, but Paul was the composition ace! Art had a great solo career with Jimmy Webb providing some great songs

  • this is better version then the old times.go simon,he looks relaxed??????????????

  • @mark26099 Check wikipedia man, you'll find out all you need to know

  • This was at Jazz Fest and I was right up in the front for this show, wonderful performance and huge inspiration!! See him again at Hangout Fest!!

  • Dowwnload the audio from this song at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • This is not the way Art Garfunkel intended on it sounding when he wrote it. He should have never gone solo. Garfunkel wrote all the best songs. I am Non-Stop-Pharaohon - The greatest artist alive! You will all one day bow to me!

  • @nonstoppharaohon If Garfunkle wrote all the songs how come he could barely make the top 40. Paul was the songwriter and still is one of the most prolific

  • @dproffessa am from uk what happened to garfunkie.whats the story do you know

  • 0:17 : " enter your text here " :)

I love you, Cecilia ( not just the song ^^" )

  • my best friend is named cecilia!!!!!!! LOL!!! :D

  • You have to be old to appreciate

  • its about a girl....

  • Part of the reason I will name my daughter Cecilia is because of this. In my opinion, every girl should have a song named after them.

  • @culturevulture123 But you're naming your daughter after a song rather than the other way around. As it happens, I named my daughter Alison after the Elvis Costello song. The important thing is it has to be a good song. Like Cecilia.

  • @hibernica007 .....LOL....my daughter is "Kristin"...from the Richard Farina book. It's OK, she forgave us....

  • Getting old suck I know

  • my name is cecilia :)

  • Comment removed

  • I realize these ol school musicians probably enjoy performing in their latter years(which is great) but this has got to be the worst "Cecilia" and it only clouds ones memory of the "70's Cecilla"!

  • @Davesnyder100

I AGREE---EVEN THOUGH I'M AN OLD SCHOOLER MYSELF.

SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO LET IT GO

  • Proud of my name CECILIA :)

  • I prefer the original to this "version". Meh.

  • An American treasure. Part of the soundtrack of my life.

  • Wow, a girl i liked was called Cecilia, and i'm named after Paul Simon(Simon, not Paul)... What a coincidence!

  • Love this song. Coincidentally thats my name.

  • This one was made for me...

    That's is may name...

  • STEVE GADD!

  • i like this sing because it has my friends name in it.

  • Thank you jayef53 for the explanation. I always wondered.

  • my song.....my name.....

  • WHAT A GREAT OLD FUCK

  • This is my name too!

  • Wow, I really didn't think Cecilia was an acual name!

  • Oh Nostalgia, Nostalgia, Nostalgia, wish I could go back in time :)

  • That's my name as well... lol

  • GREAT

  • I love Paul Simon, but this song is just better with Artie.

  • @mymytheysigh Great version, but their harmonies together were as you say "just better".

  • This song was 40 years ago no.1 in the world charts

  • This song was 40 years ago no.1 in the world charts

  • awesome awesome awesome!!!

  • I grew up listening to Simon and Garfunkel, thanks dad for having great taste in music ! I LOVE THIS SONG !

  • This song was 40 years ago no.7 in the world charts

  • Jubilation!!! give it up / give it up!!!!!

  • wow my name is Cecilia - i was in class doing my work when i heard Mr.brooks singing this song now every time i see him he sings this song!

  • @cesygiggles It sounds like your teacher is begging you to come home with him? Listen to the lyrics because maybe you can file a harassment case if he keeps doing it. I really don't think any teacher should be singing this to his female students. You weren't a little shocked when you came home and listened to the lyrics? When I was in school a teacher mentioned the Prince song "Darling Nikki" to a girl named Nicole Darling and he was not teaching the following day.

  • My name is Cecilia. My teachers always sing this song to me :) I looove it.

  • omg he is still sing'n .

i luv most of his song's

  • me gusta escuchar mi nombre en una canción tan linda! ; ) Ceci

  • God I was around 13! ..yeah that magical age! I had a neighbor who was 17 and he sang this on his guitar. I had such a crush on his girlfriend. Whew what cool memories singing on his porch!

  • I'm pretty sure this was from the New Orleans Jazz Fest, the FIRST after Katrina. This was a big deal and when you put the venue in context you see the performance was just right. DO YOU PEOPLE WANT THE EXACT SAME SOUND FROM 40 YEARS AGO FOR A BITTERSWEET FEST AFTER KATRINA?? GET A FUCKING CLUE THIS WAS AWESOME!!!!!!

This is the big flaw with youtube, people can take performances completely out of context and miss the FUCKING POINT!

  • super cool my name is cecelia and i remember all of my teachers would sing this song.

  • @ginkgoheart1992

yeeeah =D da same thing also happend to me 2. My name is Cecilia, too ;)

  • @ginkgoheart1992 My name is Cecilia, and til this day, my teachers sing it allll the time.

  • Genial :)

  • Here's to you Cel. I remember when this song came out. Kathy's gone but we will never forget her. Kathy, Cecelia, and Michelle. A trio that will NEVER be broken.

  • Steve Gadd on drums I see. Cool!

  • this is god-awful i've never heard him sound like this..

  • Get a fuckin life, sadsack. The guy is nearly 90 and has written more verse in one song than you could in a lifetime.

    You tit!

  • 90!!! lol not quite paul is a great singer songwriter & this is not one of his better performances, so maybe you need a life & an ear...

  • @defters... you are oh so right!

he is a phenomenal song writer! I agree... and I saw him in concert in the fall of 2006 in Indianapolis IN and he his performance was awesome.

Though give the guy a little bit of a break, He is only 69 years old :) Younger than my father! (this is said in complete fun)

  • defters, why can't you respect other people's enjoyment, without being so fucken rude. get off the tube and find some manners

  • I love these guys and this song, but this recording... come on, these guys are better than this. Right?

  • I agree. Not a good recording or performance. The fact that his guitar is out of tune doesnt help either. Cant shine every day I guess.

  • Drink a couple of beers and reminisce, it'll sound grand.

  • You are wellcome Paul

  • OMG! He is an old bloke! Last 20 years have NOT been kind to him. What a shock.

  • You were named after this song; no doubt about it

  • This is a real bad recording, listen to the original Simon and Garfunkel version. You'll appreciate it more after that.

  • Missing on vocals big time! GARF!

  • Mi nombre xd

  • Oh Cecilia!!! she loves me again Y_Y

  • my name is stupid :(

  • lol.......

  • my name's cecilia :)

  • Que lindo es mi nombre Cecilia ....... jaja....no sabia que tenia una cancion...CECILIA

  • The song seems seems lost without the voice of garf, doesn't it?

  • Yep!

  • The relationship between Paul Simon and Cecilia is symbolic. St. Cecilia is the patron saint of musicians, and the song describes the fleeting nature of musical inspiration. He is inspired by (making love to) Cecilia, but suddenly loses the inspiation (someone takes his place). Later it comes back (she loves him again), and he is joyful.

  • @jayef53 Thank you for explaining this! I had never known that and it makes me appreciate this song even more than I had before!

  • @jayef53 Thanks for explaining that! I didn't know that before.

  • @jayef53 wow never new that

  • @jayef53 not at all, its about my grandmother who used make handmade ice cream for him.they got married in a secret wedding ceremony which was attended by the beatles, elvis and a young justin timberlake.photos were not allowed as my grandmother was afraid they would attract owls.they went on honeymoon to a small principality called duelabagandia.unfortunatly things did not work out and they split up.my grandmother went on to invent the game of hopscotch.hope this clears things up.

  • @jayef53 fuckin deep man

  • @jayef53 good insight

  • @jayef53 Thanks for this note on Cecilia and the story behind it. It's like my drumming I guess. I played the big shows and venues till 1985....then wavered from drumming....but now 25 years later it's back and I feel it. So there's always hope I guess. As long as we are receptive and willing. • OH Ceciiiiiiilia!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • This guy is the most energetic song writer of all time! He's 70??!!!!!! Wow I am a big fan! All of his songs have a meaning like they have an energy that just wants me to dance with it!!! The best song that he's ever written is Diamonds On The Soles Of Your Shoes I know it by heart!

  • he looks like richard dreyfuss now

    I love him so much.

but he now looks like richard dreyfuss.

  • Hahaha

    Richard Dreyfuss....? Sure ....

I love him so much too.

But .... in Central Park 1981 he was so sexy... Don't you think ?

  • He was definitely sexy. I totally agree.

  • Well hello there sweetie, ceclia

  • that is the name i would like to use with my next daughter.

    beautiful..

  • @hello15sweeetie My name too!

  • ...

it doesn't sound like he's privileged...

  • Is there a version where Mr. Simon isn't comtemplainting suicide while performing?

  • what do you mean?

  • Compare this version with the one from the Central Park concert. Not much juice left.

  • I agree: the version on "Old Friends" has waaaaay more spunk and energy (the percussion helps a lot). It makes me want to get up and dance whereas this version doesn't.

  • this one makes me wanna dance but then i keep lookin up at the stage to see if he's gettin it right.

  • haha that gave me the first laugh of the day

  • 1 its coNtemplating, comtemplating is a completely different word

and 2 thats a retarded question

  • :P haha

  • I hope you get to know her really well first! ^^

Hope it all goes well! XD

  • Finally, i found this song, at least the one with one part of the duo. this isone the greatest S&G tracks

  • Just finished watching the Paul Simon episode from 1975 on the first season of 'Saturday Night Live'. Talk about flash-forwarding 34 years. Still sounds amazing over 3 decades later.

  • is that the "turkey" one?

  • Nope, the episode where he dressed as a turkey was from season 2. The one on my first season set was the second episode of SNL featuring duets with Art Garfunkel and Phoebe Snow as well as a performance by Randy Newman. Aside from a 'graffiti wallpaper' commercial parody and a brief 'Weekend Update' segment with Simon playing 1-on-1 baskeball with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the rest of the show was nothing but music performances. I really enjoyed it, especially Simon & Garfunkel's 2 part harmony.

  • right . . . the season 2 one is also when he does "here comes the sun" . . right? that is an brilliant performance ..

  • Yup, as a duet with George Harrison. :) And you're right, it was brilliant.

  • I laugh every time someone sings this song to me

  • thats my name cecillia maria>!3

  • i've been looking for this song forever!

    i finally found it!!!

    YEA

    love it!!

  • NO Paul Simon And Art Garfunkel

  • is it his original song

  • I do feel sorry for you. Would you rather be welcomed by the Sound of Silence? Just be Like a Rock and thank god that your name isn't Mrs. Robinson.

  • Trust me it IS VERY annoyig wen ur name is Cecilia and everytime u say ur name to sum1 tht person sings this song to u..it reallly does get annoyin after lets say..a few years lolol...

  • a great karaoke song ... that's all i can say.

  • My name's Cecilia..and its soo annoyin wen ppl sing this to me..but its kinda funny lol..

  • How can you think that's annoying!?

  • It least it is a song by a musical genius, not some boy band.

  • totally great . . .

  • he's so old but he can still sing!!! :-D

  • So true . . pity about the awful clothes.

  • my cousin's name is cecillia
