  • i was like, "Why is this flagged?"

    then i saw 2:19 lol

  • Hey, it's so cool of Gregg to share what his sex life was like with Cher.

  • Hey, 15 people too young to hear the song? LOL

  • i've been tied to the whipping post, and now they are calling in the firing squad!

  • This is the jam

  • First let me say I'm old. So I heard most of my fav list first hand. I do feel that the 60's 70's 80's and 90's were the best period of music since the classical age. It's not like there isnt good music still being made but assholes who only care about money in the biz just use demoghrapics to commonize so there is so much average bull made that alot of times I dont find out about good music till way after the fact. Like Firewater, My morning jacket ( the songs I like that is), and modest mouse

  • whats up with all the visuals i can hear what their singing about i don't need a picture of money when they say money or a wrecked car or a bullwhip when they sing the chorus. Just give me the audio and a few pictures of Duane and ill be happy

  • saw them with mountain /felt forum nyc....in and around 73.....the south end tavern...we had a sign like that in troy ny

  • Reminds me of my job.

  • @jboo752 LOL - Toooo funny!

  • @jboo752 same here.

  • rip duane

  • why is this age restricted?

  • damnn, I just heard this song on the radio...pretty fukcing nice, excellent jam all around!

I'm 31 so it was before my time but daamn do I love this song.

  • i think the naked woman around 2:18 has something to do with the age restriction

  • I think if you live long enough, you're gonna feel this way at least once in your life.

  • If you like this then you will absolutely love the Mountain Heart version, OH MY GOD its amazing. The lead singer is my cousin and his vocals are incredible. Please Check It Out.

  • @ADDChris0696 The Mountain Heart Version was excellent - very, very talented musicians - thanks!

  • @ADDChris0696 I must admit, I was a little skeptical at first, especially when I read that the lead singer is your cousin! But I am so glad I gave it a chance. I don't understand how they took such an amazing song and made it even better. And your cousin does, indeed, have an incredible voice.

  • ...why is this video age restricted?

  • @TonyChristensen247 - The kids can't handle it! I thought it was a joke too...

  • @TonyChristensen247 This is a joke.

  • i heard another version of this song with a drum beat in the beginning and i dont know where to find it. Its been so long since ive heard it can anybody help? Thanks!

  • Allman Brothers.......often imitated, but NEVER DUPLICATED!

  • this is the blues! yeah!!!..no doubt....

i have loved feeling this song for over 30 years!!!!!!

    thanks for posting.........

  • love this song..BUT..this video truely sucks...BIG TIME

  • YYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Give me that sweet Southern Rock that moves you like no other music can! Duane Allman is my hero! The Allman Bros Band kick so much ass is hard to gauge. Damn this song is incredible! Screw all you "nay sayers"

  • @smokiebird06

I'm with Youkaikaze on thisone. I have listened to everything from muddy waters to allman brothers, linkin park, Whitechapel, Lamb of God, God is an astronaut back to the Woodie Guthrie. I will tell you that this song is amazing but there is just so much other stuff out there. You really shouldn't make silly comments like that.

  • 13 people.....ah, fuck it.

  • Got to love the amalgamation of rock, rhythm & blues, and gospel organ. GENIOUS!

  • Is that south end tavern in troy new york????

  • This mix is... Pure Love.

  • very good post man,,,nice pics,,,it works GREAT~~~~ !!!! thanks-W

  • yow. I love this too. goosebumps. not bad, southern rock appreciation by a canadian.

  • Like 265 This kicks butt nuff said!

  • actually they got hit by trucks on the same street berrys was just a year later

  • he got hit by a peach truck so they called there album Eat a Peach

  • @iCumulate Was that gallow's humor or just their way of coping with what happened?

  • amazing song!!!

  • RIP VKB. Thanks for giving the gift of great music.

  • this is a song about suffering in general ah...dah get it!!!!!

  • A woman can hurt you more than anything else in the world...And not even touch you

  • @bryant5266 well said!

  • @bryant5266 I bet everyone typed in this song with a bitch in mind.

  • lol i heard this song in an m.r.i. it was awkward, but an awesome song!!

  • oh man!!! blues rock and roll DONT!!!!! get better than greg and duane allman!!!!

  • Jesus, Duane wasn't the only one in a motorcycle crash. You do realize Berry Oakley died do to a motorcycle crash just a year later right? Why doesn't anyone ever remember Berry? I don't many any disrespect to Duane, but damn.

  • @knuckles362 and Berry's wreck was very close to the same place Duane's was. I am a fan of them both.

  • @minkymott I do appreciate that you didn't blatantly disregard my opinion, so thank you, but the airplay they get is on radio stations specifically for older music or when a station wants to play something older. You could argue the point that that's obvious because it is older music, but then isn't it possible that music from this stage will be played in the future because it's older as well? and @PurpleDreamery there are many unique bands out right now. The Hush Sound has really classy music.

  • Yeah, I'm 25. I can't live in the past because I wasn't alive...and today's music is lame. It is a shame that I have to delve into the past to hear what music really is. Today's music is not necessarily horrible, but the bands are definitely a dime a dozen.

  • Everyone who says today's music sucks in stuck in the past. You have stopped evolving where as music has continued. Music has changed and progressed into several different styles. I don't necessarily like all of them, but to say it's not good is just close minded and puts a bad shadow on the old music because you become the representation of it, and the message you send is that you don't want to be open minded or like anything. Plus, a lot of good bands exist today.

  • @thebocor With all due respect, the Allman Brothers get airplay decades after their music went off the charts. I will bet you anything the crap served up today won't be played even 5 years from now. Much less decades.

  • My God, it's just so amazing. You can hear the soul in Gregg Allman's voice and the epic mastery of Duane's guitar. It's perfection done where everyday, ordinary average guys like me can relate to it.

  • not to mention the 11/4 time signature. genius

  • Almost everything about it makes it great - the drumming, prominent bass line, subtle keyboards, electric guitars, and the soulful singing.

  • Then don't watch it loser!!!

  • when I was little I thought they were called the almond brothers, and I used to ask my dad if we could listen to the almond brothers, I'm fourteen now, they're still killer...the only thing thats changed was their name! haha!!

  • theres good music everywhre u just have to discover them, what about the strokes, arctic monkeys, and a lot of indie stuff?

  • i think that hanaha montana and jonas brothers are gay, but there are some good bands today too like alice in chains and pearl jam. but i still think that music from the 60's and 70's is better.

  • @alyster1969 alice in chains is dead just like layne staley and saying music from the 60's and 70's is better is foolish, look at between the buried and me, buckethead, nuclear rabbit and primus all WAY better technically and creatively

  • @polkafrenzy666 Between the buried in me are awesome

  • @polkafrenzy666 Are you kidding me man? Buckethead is alright, but those bands are just technically better, and technical skill has nothing to do with music really.

  • i mean all i can say is fucking right..

  • Nicely done

  • RIP Duane

  • southern rock , yeah

  • I think that sonny landreth,is the only competitor for these guys - for southern blues that is

  • Great, good guitar riffs right here in this tune too.

  • Going to see these guys tonight in Dallas. Hell yeah!

  • i think Daveej better go wank off to Matchbox 20

  • Comment removed

  • @ShaDeSlayerStone To everyone - this is southern blues at its best

  • Saw these guys in a basketball arena in Oakland, CA...Around 1979. OMG! THEY ROCKED! I WAS S-O-L-D! TOTALLY AWESOME....WE MISS THE ORIGINALS!!! Music just ain't the same. I CAN RELATE TO THE LYRICS.

  • Im with you man, im just twenty and i saw these guys in MASS and i cant get enough, even though its not the original, Derek Trucks is unbelieveable! I relate big time man.

  • Now let's see. The music today compared to the Allman Bros. Hmmmm let's see. Yes, that's right. Most of today's music is DOGSHIT. Thank you for your attention.

  • Most of the music back then was dogshit too. Or are you assuming Allman Bros. was the only music back then? I could easily say in forty years that *insert awesome band here* is better than any shit they've got, but I'd be ignoring all the shitty bands existing today. Only the good stuff is remembered, that's why the past is always golden.

  • DaVeej: most old music was great. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, Hendrix, Deep Purple, The Doors, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, The Who, Steve Miller Band, The Guess Who, Santana, Fleetwood Mac, Cher, The Byrds, Nazareth, Kiss, Alice Cooper, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, name me one good band today. none

  • hmmm...define "a band today: cause at least half of those still play

well, here goes anyway: Symphony X, Mastodon, Them Crooked Vultures, Bang Camaro, Probot, Opeth, Emilie Autumn, Strapping Young Lad, Heaven and Hell, BLAZE, The Sword, Candlemass, Wino.

  • you forgot iron maiden and judas priest

  • i did not, i was trying to name bands formed fairly recently. priest and maiden fromed in the 70s.

  • my bad, i thot u wer jus namin good bands

  • Listen music is a preference. And kids today like shitty music. As for some bands i think that are fairly decent are:

Marilyn Manson (Wierd but some good songs), Nine inch nails, Guns and roses, 3 inches of blood, fleetwood mac, U2, Bon Jovi

  • a good band today is wolfmother

  • i agree with you for the most part... but kiss... come on now...

  • lol, whats wrong with Kiss?

  • i could give you one from not long ago," ALICE IN CHAINS"

  • Stone Sour Testament,Pantera,Sevendust System Of A Down and Velvet Revolver @IncensePeppermints68

  • @IncensePeppermints68 Well you forgot All That Remains,Five Finger Death Punch.Velvet Revolver,Bionic Jive,Avenged Sevenfold,Sevendust,and a few others

  • @Aggression576 Dude, except for maybe velvet revolver, those bands wouldnt stand up to the Allman Bros. They would be their roadies lol

  • dude i completely agree

  • @smokiebird06 Actually there is some REALLY unbelievable music coming out recently; we are truly blessed to be around. Bands like Grizzly Bear, Local Natives, Fleet Foxes and others are critically acclaimed, having the 70s rock theme with a more modern flare. Even for genres like rap and jazz have new, unbelievable talent.

  • @smokiebird06 you're not looking in the right places. there's plenty of good music being made today.

  • @monkybizzness2u Testament,Stone Sour,All That Remains and Five Finger Daeth Punch who did a awesome cover of Bad Company, you have to hear it to believe it,

  • @smokiebird06 Just need to know what to look for. Granted there is little hard southern rock that is out there, but there are plenty of bands out there today that are carrying on the sounds of days past. Mule, Crowes, Phish (more progressive), Moe., Widespread Panic, Cornmeal.....this list goes on my friend. Plenty of great music for my generation of hippies to listen to.

  • @smokiebird06 AGREED!

  • @smokiebird06 soulja boy lettssss go, haha just playin naw no music today like it used to be

  • @smokiebird06 dogshit is better

  • @smokiebird06 - that's an insult to DOGSHIT! :O)

  • @smokiebird06 Preach it!

  • @smokiebird06

    I couldn't agree more

  • @smokiebird06 what advice would you give to up and coming artists who are trying to revolutionize music again and save it from what it is now??

  • @smokiebird06 not so. its just that these days you have to do your research to discover today's groundbreaking musicians. you can no longer depend on marketable media to deliver you anything other than dogshit. cause thats what the kids want and it sells

  • @smokiebird06 Or you stopped taking acid. There's some good shit out today, just gotta sift through a bunch of shit to find it, unfortunately. The good art lies in the shadow amongst the plethora of mediocrity and banality, but its there.

  • @nmcgoo108: Isn't it always that way, though?

  • @smokiebird06

Amen, you are very wise man.

  • @smokiebird06

You sir are a very wise man. Glad I got raised on good ol' fashion American Southern Rock and Heavy Metal. I had some other stuff introduced later but this hits the spot.

The Allman Brothers Band one of a kind and not many musicians can say they've got what they did.

  • @smokiebird06 I second that DOG SHIT!

  • @smokiebird06 If all you listen to is the radio, and turn a blind eye and ear to all the amazing music still being made, then sure.

  • @smokiebird06 the funny thing is my parent's parents thought the same thing about the Allman Brothers

  • 2:20

  • Are you serious?

  • HA! ur funny!

  • yup

  • i am soo glad to see that the new generation is liking the allman bros, and discovering there music

  • Whenever I see a group of chamber musicians, I ALWAYS yell "Whipping Post"!!!

  • been trying to finde out who made this song fore years sinse i heard a 15 sec. clip of it on HBO`S "from the eart to the moon" episode 4 (1968) ;; finaly got it :)))

    Awesome... love it

  • what a great song, first time i heard this song i thought it was a black dude singing it . so much fucking soul coming out of this guys mouth.incredible! & please dont turn this into something racial

  • amazing band.

  • fuck that bass riff at the begining its one of the most kick ass bass rifs i ever heard!

  • @Zylandia you must've been under a rock for awhile, listen to some nuclear rabbit or even jean baudins solo stuff thats some truly amazing basswork

  • @polkafrenzy666 Ok dude i'll do it :)

  • @Zylandia ~~Balls Out an Bong Hit to this BABY

  • music from the heart, albeit a broken one, you know the blues when you feel the song, " took all my money, wrecked my brand new car",

  • cool video.

  • I always play this at the local tavern. Great tune!

  • my bro says its 11/8

  • From 1:10 to 1:26.. Amazing vocals.. :)

  • M.U.S.I.C.

  • This is what you call music.

  • R.I.P. Duane, but doesn't anybody care about Berry Oakley?

  • Good Lord, I feel like I'm dying...

  • i love playing pool jamin 2 da brothers.. drinking cold ones

  • No, we all must love finishing puzzles, listening to Dr. Phil and drinking room temperaturewater.

  • Personally, I love analyzing political movements, listening to Atomic Rooster and drinking semi-warm bottles of Fiji water.

  • yeah, that is the way it is

  • gotta love 11/8 time

  • it's actually 11/4

  • to me it sounds like compound quadruple time (12/8) with one beat removed from the 4th pulse

  • according to my music book it is 11/8.

  • Yes sir, Greg didn't know what the hell 11/8 was when he wrote it, Duane had to explain it. 123 123 123 12.

  • it sounds to me like the intro is 11/8, then the rest goes into 6/8

is that wrong of me to think?

  • you mean 3/4?

  • Technically it would be 6/4.

  • It actually is in 11/8 time.

  • If we consider the intro to be 11/8, then the rest is either 6/8 or 12/8.

I acknowledge that it COULD be considered 6/4, but if that is so, then the intro should be considered 11/4 (or a combination of 6/4 and 5/4).

  • The intro is in 11/8, then when the lead vocal enters the picture, the time signature goes to 6/8 (or 12/8, depending on what you consider to be the complete measure.)

Now, not all 'the rest' goes in 6/8. There are some Intro-like interludes in 11/8, then back to 6/8 for a guitar solo, keeps in 6/8 to the vocals, and then the whole thing all over again.

I was just lurking around looking for some songs using irregular meters. Didn't even know the band. Nice discovery, though. =)

  • I meant 123 123 12345 = 11 LOL

  • Absolutely love this song.

    Allman Bros are solid =D

  • Amazing song. One of the best endings ever. Fantastic bass line!

  • Great song!!!

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • Some guys in my unit had a band and they did a cover of this, the best!!!

  • u really have no idea do u.

  • I'm a 51 year old Brit and we never really got the Allmans in this country - in the early 70s we were all into Floyd, Zeppelin, Purple and stuff like that. Because I never really listened to them properly, the Allmans always seemed like some OK, pleasant but not very interesting country rock band by comparison. And then I heard the version of Whipping Post off Fillmore East a few years ago and realised what I'd been missing all those years - Jesus, these guys were the best!

  • no you do

  • the real deal.

  • One of the most powerful blues-rock songs of all time. Starting at 4:30 of this clip, Gregg Allman just roars this song from his gut with everything he's got! THIS is how you sing the blues, and this is the kind of music that is SORELY missing in today's bullshit national music scene corrupted by American Idol and other manufactured crap that lingers like a bad disease that ins't likely to be cured anytime soon!

Long live the Allman Brothers and all REAL DEAL rock and blues legends!

  • Up to the day that Dwayne died, there was no one that could beat this group. Had tickets to see them in Minneapolis. Two days before the concert, Dwayne died, another for the rock n roll heaven.

  • just seen Greg Allman and his band live this past weekend on long island. They played this song and it kicked ass along with many other great songs they played.

  • "Sometimes I feel like I've been tied to the whipping post...Good lord I feel like I am dying"

    Sounds like my ex-girlfriend LOL

    Awesome song, these guys ROCK!!!

  • Allman Brothers totally rock! I am fortunate enough to have seen them live! Yes, I am the old one and I love the legacy!

  • peiod

  • IQ136 and Alwaystuned this song was off the Allman Brothers Band's self-titled debut album, released November 1969.
