HA! Hilarious. I've stayed in some pretty horrific hotel rooms in Osaka as well. One didn't even have any windows and all everything in the bathroom (tub, sink, toilet) was steel. Kinda reminded me of some bad horror movie, but hey, it was cheap and you could park there for free.
The overnight bus, tho, is bomb when you're trying to save money. Since it's about a third of the cost of the Shinkansen. You definitely did it the right way, tho...bus it there and Shink it home... :)

When I went to Seoul Korea with my best friend, we stayed in a 5 star hotel in seoul. It was very nice and luxurious. Expensive, but worth it, because it made our vacation even more comfortable.

It wasn't a "bargain," it was shit. Communal bathrooms, have to pay extra for towels/toothpaste/toothbrush/soap/shampoo, bad insulation, thin walls, small rooms.
All I wanted was a shower, for which I had to pay extra anyway. I basically paid $23 for a shower. That's not a bargain.
I went to a hotel in Ohio called the Pilgrim Inn. It was much worse than that... trust me. I'd advise anybody traveling in Ohio to avoid the Pilgrim Inn.

and very modern rooms with a very big flatscreen tv. And it has a great location, just check it out.
