Is their favorite food cheese? And how much do they cost to import from where you got them? By the way, I know you need an exotic pets license and I have one.
@pokemonfanatic123 The cheese is just a treat. I have a video on here about the consistency of their food where I put the recipe too. Cost varies a lot based on demand.
I noticed that they swipe with their claws at the food, and I read somewhere that they do use them to dig into termite/ant mounds...have you ever tried to put food in/under something soft so they can dig at it to get the food?
Their food is a beef mix that I do not add water too. So it is sort of clay consistency. I have some old videos of when I just started that. She claws bits off and eats them so it does stimulate the claw at the food instinct. I also will squirt cheese into rubber squeaky toys with the squeaker out so she has the small squeaker hole to lick it out through and she will claw at it.
No it's not okay to feed them a bunch of sweets and that includes fruits. Many zoos let them have lots of fruit and they get diabetes. But he almost never got things like ice cream. But I had some and he was mugging me for it so gave him a little. Sweets, even fruits, weren't a regular part of his diet.
I take it honey would be out of the question, and only as a once in a while sweet. What would be their non-sweet diet besides ants and grubs and cheese and leafy greens?
They have been known to raid beehives in the wild but they eat the baby bees too. Pua looks at honey like it's missing something but some zoos use it as treats.
The main diet is ground beef and beef hear, spinach or thyme, wheat bran, and flax seed meal and some feeder insects mixed in. I also add a few things for minerals like nutritional yeast but sometimes rotate those to not be to static.
I guess a straw would be of no use....

Anteaters seem to sneeze a lot when they drink.

@Masowai Their nose gets in their food since it's so close to their mouth.

I'm hoping all of the cheese whiz and ice cream isn't part of their daily diet...

That is very interesting about the consistency of the food...I was thinking it was more like gruel or watery oatmeal.

That is how most keepers feed them. I did at first too.

Yes, a high sugar diet is good for them. I've heard of people raising them entirely on skittles, potato chips, and red bull.
foulplay2 2 years ago
Well, I certainly hope not. They need high protein and high fiber but a little treat now and then is okay.

Is he trying to smear the ice cream on himself?
mlisaoverdrive 4 years ago
No. It's cold so he claws at it then squirms from the cold. It's a little more dramatic than that sometimes especially if Pua does it.
