This song is to teach them the importance of packing your chute correctly, duble checking your equipment and such. They make it sound so bad so you are SURE to check your equipment.

@HaloNerd4Ever - Don't even know where to begin with this one. This song is to the tune of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" There is no other version worth listening to
What was this all about ? You can express yourself better than this.. We all wear/wore green, and bleed red. I was with the unit that secured the LZ in Viet Nam for the 173rd when they made their combat jump. We were glad to see them, and they glad to see us.That is one piece of Airborne history that I will take to my grave with me, and I am proud of it. From a real old soldier..
Mr.Freebird, the 101st is an Air Assault division (a supped up air mobile unit) they would beg to differ with you about your reccomendation. Their history is storied and with out exception and when need be can return to Airborne status. As of now it's a money thing, the Army can't field two Airborne Div.due to cost but rest assure if they need me I'll do what ever it takes to get this tired ass 59 yr old body into the Screaming Eagles. Retired Sgt. Armor former Navy Viet Vet PBR river rat 70-72
When Ever I hear this song all I can say is AIRBORNE - I am a CAVALRY Officer by trade I have 7 jumps to my name while Garry Owen, and the call of the bugle are in my blood - I can never under estimate the blood and courage of my AIRBORNE Brothers - whatever name you may choose to call us as long as it SOLDIER I am happy.
bought still they fought as one.numbers dont mean nothing when there is bombs going of and mg's every where and men screaming every where.all that matters is that u make it out out alive to keep the fight going.
@w0bbl3r It's not decommissioned, but it's not an "airborne" division anymore. During Vietnam it was designated as an airmoble division, and later as an air assault division, which remains today. But it is still called the 101st Airborne.
101st is now air assault (helocopter troops) while the 82nd still remains as airborne (parachuting out of planes) though they both still have airborne tabs.
This is a more upbeat version than the recording from the 1950's. This song means alot to me because my Great-Uncle was KIA while jumping on Normandy on June 6th 1944. He was in G. Co. 502nd PIR, 101st Airborne
I was 82nd Airborne Airborne 3/325. 1984-89 I love this song!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
this is actually based on a true story where a girl's shoot got stuck on the back of the plane and the rucksacks beat her to death.
