sorry for the late reply, sailormom. yeah, it's pretty dang cold there in the winter. and well, that beatle (love the spelling, that's the band!) is called a kabuto mushi, which translates literally as a 'helmet bug'. the helmet referred to is the like of which samurai sported in the days of yore. i think a more apt translation would be 'stag beetle', the likes of which may be found elsewhere, but they seem to be quite a part of japan.
Lovely, is it really cold there in the winter. We are coming in december, but i'd love to see the beach and town. wow that bug, was that a Japanese beatle?
