  • All this talk of EROEI or EROI is socialist bunk designed to raise gas taxes. There was a guy named Eisner or Eisman (?) who got serious returns on shale from his ranch using parts bought at a True Value hardware store. He did tests on a cubic yard of shale dug up with a Bobcat and got back 37% of the volume in oil vs. the charcoal he heated it with! Many crude oil wells don't do that well. But environmentalists attacked his data to save some desert toads and he died in the 1990s, a broken man.

  • An EIA article that caused a lot of false hype about Bakken can be found by searching for:

"Technology-Based Oil and Natural Gas Plays: Shale Shock! Could There Be Billions in the Bakken?"

Based on that article, some dummies/liars created the impression that "503 billion barrels" (a high estimate) meant recoverable oil from shale, when the actual recoverable figure is only about ONE PERCENT of that 503 billion figure.

Read the FULL article in context to truly understand shale oil.

  • Anyone claiming that Bakken gives America "Saudi Arabia" status is lying.

Yields from the Bakken shale have rarely exceeded 2 or 3% (EROEI), with 1% being common. In other words, you need to use ~99% external energy just to get 1% back. This is explained over and over again to Dittoheads but they refuse to acknowledge it, citing vague claims like "the technology will improve!" No, it won't improve that much! You have to cook shale to free the oil and there is no fooling the laws of physics.

  • NOW WE HAVE 400 YEARS OF OIL, SEE THE ENERGY NON CRISIS, AND OIL IS ABIOTIC, IT IS NOT A FOSSIL FUEL, YOU HAVE BEEN DECEIVED.

  • before you all start flocking here, either have a Class A CDL with HazMat endorsement or atleast a year previous oil field experience or you wont get hired. just letting you all know. i work as a floorhand here in williston, and i see people filling out applications all day most of them with no experience, and i know for a fact they wont get hired, and the HR department is so sick of getting so many apps from people who have no experience in the oilfield.9 out of 10 applicants dont get call bac

  • @reotardodickcraprio Thank you!! We don't need all these illegals, and dumb asses coming in from fucking Cal and ny....

  • @acavideo You have no clue man. That oil field is going to out produce Saudi Arabia in about 4 to 5 years, possibly sooner.

  • Well Bob Nance you are wrong sir. Have a good day!

  • @Weezy10580 Yep, Bob is now bozo the clown, because I've heard that oil field has about 24 billion barrels in it.

  • end oil and gas drilling now! you are destroying planet earth. oil and gas are in the planet for a reason. you are imbalancing the planet. use your intelligence and use clean energy - wind, wave, solar. peace and love to planet earth.

  • To Quote Bob Nance in this video he says "The entire North Eastern part of

Montana & the entire Western part of North Dakota is NOT going to produce." How right you are sir..but why not tell the public why this oil will not be available! The Oil is all controlled by the Global Elites, they are putting up the price of OIL and have a plan in place to double cross Saudi Arabia in the near future. Once this happens it will then allow this oil to flow... please read "The Energy Non Crisis" book.

  • Lindsey Williams was right! Once we betray Saudi Arabia & the middle east in the near future, this is where America will be getting oil. Here and in the far north of Alaska in the Prudhoe Bay region as a huge reserve was found over 20 years ago. Just read the book or go online and look up "The Energy Non Crisis" to get the rest of the story.

  • I think I see Bob's nose growing.

  • If you want to know more about the bakken please google "thebakkenformation" with the quotes and join the forum. We also have a free jobs site, and rigs page in the blog section that updates every day.

  • Not to promote this book (and I really shouldn't since I'm not being paid by the publisher), but "The Bottomless Well: The Twilight of Fuel, The Virtue of Waste, and Why We Will Never Run Out of Energy " published in 2005 "predicted" this. A story on NPR yesterday said that America could go from an oil importer to an oil exporter within 5 years! Talk about unrest in the Middle East! What are they gonna do when we no longer need their oil!

  • They're always lying about how much oil is out there. I remember 30 years ago National Geographic had an article pretty much saying we would be out of oil in by around 2000. The Alaskan Pipeline was only suppose last for 20 years.....the wellhead pressure of 1500 psi has never gone down! There is just has oil now in that field as there was then. We could easily build 3 or 4 more pipelines. THEY'RE LYING TO YOU .....................AGAIN!!!

  • 4.3 billion recoverable barrels - that seems like alot.

The US uses about 20 million barrels a day, so

    4.3 billion barrels / 20 million b/day = 215 days = around 7 months

  • 20 million barrels well thats 4 years for us oil, china growing economy with 1 bilçlion ppl sucked 40 per cent more oil last year with pop 4 times bigger then usa and 4 times lower oil consuption

  • Does anyone know about driving for sanjel in ND or MT,is the money that good or is it all a scam?

  • Alright lets invade Montana!! oh wait..

  • @grooveclubhouse couldn't have said better myself!

  • For get oil Henry Ford dream was Hemp and its still the best choice today get the DEA out of of our tanks From Grand Forks to Minot seas of green then white

  • I own property in Fortuna North Dakota right in the middle of this oilfield and the drillers and explorers are behind every bush! We all need to benefit from this and like Saudi Arabia we should only be paying about $0.64 per gallon for gas!

  • great now we are gonna steal oil from south canada

  • LOL nothing to see here, go away. There is more oil there than Saudi Arabia has HA! Funny how things like greed can save a nation LOL. We have more oil than the mid east RIGHT HERE! Boom shakka lakka. Sad to say, we will still have high gas prices, but we can be assured that USA has a very bright future, even though things look bad right now. Just wait for war in Saudi, that will trigger the start.

  • I don't see the gas going down even if they drill in the U.S.Too many greedy people.

  • Don't get excited they will not let consumers have it, its on hold for the elite!

  • Global Warmers will get so mad about these new crude oil estimates....Oil is the energy & engine that powers the greatest and free-est country & economy in the history of the World....Global Warmers have no idea how much diesel and gas the tractors, combines, and big rig trucks require to grow and transport their food, so they can simply buy their food source from "Whole Foods" , "Fresh and Easy" and "Trader Joe's", whenever they want, without doing any work. They must think its magic.

  • The CEO of Continental Resources just announced (March 2011) that they have new data showing the most recent estimates in the Bakken need to be revised from the 2008 estimate of 4.3 billion barrels upward to 24 billion barrels....At $100/barrel oil, thats a $2.4 trillion bonus for the U.S. economy.....nothing to sneeze at. ....plus all the added jobs, pipeline construction, drilling equipment manufacturing, etc. Left wing liberals will be so upset that we won't have to go back to the stone age.

  • It is a good thing to have, but it isn't that great a discovery unless the US starts to use it's resources responsibly. The American public has been brainwashed and kept ignorant by the irresponsible big corporations, the network of sociopathic bureaucrats and politicians with no conscience for their own short term interests and personal gains, placing the future of America on the auction block for sale to the highest bidder. It is time for america to wake up. they can be Righteous again.

  • Primates should not try to live in snowy, cold areas. It does not make biological sense. Oil and money addicts are corrupt and diseased. CarFree . com -- FreePublicTransit . org -- BicycleCity . com -- PostCarbon . org -- Puppets of the oil/automobile/asphalt/military/congressional cartels, free yourselves. Oil addiction is suicide, like alcoholism. Oil addicts are like winos: deny, deny, deny. Corporate media is a brainwashing scam. Polluters are crooks. Prosecute and imprison.

  • All of this oil and still i am going to end up paying up to $5.00 a gallon for gas, something is really stinking wrong here. We got Bakken, we got prudo bay, we got Swanson River, and Gas at 3.00++ per Gallon of Gas. where is the investigation into the criminal activites of this crooks who control all of this. A 14 trillion dollar national debt, their is something seriously wrong here???

  • @Mrpl778 I look at it like this......At least we have the economy to pay $5.00/gal for gas. If it were $1.00/gal, the economy would be so shot you couldn't afford to fill up your tank.

  • @OilfieldSmokeEater Are you crazy, if it were $1.00/ a gallon the economy would boom like never before? Our so called National Debt would disappear overnight, but that's never gonna happen because the IMF will never release its strong hold on the world's economies. In their efforts to establish a One World Government, they must destroy the US to level the playing field with the rest of the World. I am sure you must of forgotten a zero in your comment.

  • @Mrpl778 I agree, what's up, we need to prosecute the "criminal activities of this crooks who control all of this. A 14 trillion dollar national debt, their is something seriously wrong here???" I agree Mrpl778

  • i live over the deepest part of the bakken, the minerals below are the best in the formation.

  • we also have at least 1.5 trillion barrels worth of oil shale in the Green River formation, not to mention numerous other reserves in the Eastern part of this country

  • TO: the geology/math challenged who say "THAT'S ONLY 6, 7, (etc.) months worth of awl..." today, about 6 billion bbl known in the Bakken formation WOULD BE 6, 7, etc. 'months worth' IF, AND ONLY IF, THE BAKKEN FORMATION WERE THE ENTIRE SUPPLY IN AND AROUND NORTH AMERICA. So, finish the propaganda correctly - "That's only 6 months worth IF ALL OTHER SUPPLIES ARE ALREADY EXHAUSTED." To: logical people who can walk and chew gum simultaneously, DON'T BELIEVE OPEC LIES!!! USA HAS IT'S OWN OIL!

  • New estimates by the operators in North Dakota is much higher than the USGS predictions. (more like 10 to 20 bbl) The USGS probably got it wrong as it was their first attempt at estimating such a resource like the Bakken. Rig count is right about 150 and plans are to try to double that within 2 years. Each rig drills a new well every 1 to 3 months. Once things calm down on the Bakken they will probably start to work on the Tyler Formation which should produce about 1/3 as much.

  • Wikipedia says that there is 3.65 BILLION barrels of recoverable oil.

This guys a great big phony.

  • Yah, not gonna produce... that is why they are drilling 150 more sites. Can you say one of the biggest fields in the entire WORLD ha ha ha, NORTH DAKOTA is now the MECCA. We may even pass Texas in oil productin over time. This is why North Dakota is a conservative state, damn government doesnt need to tell us where to drill. BTW, xxxBradxxx, you are very correct. Now the money grows on trees out here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @travismany

I don't understand why such a big deal is made over this. It is less than 1 year's worth of oil for the US. We consume 5 billion barrels a year.

  • chalk this up with ufo sitings

  • fuck the illuminati those fucking bitches wont let drill because they want us to be slave to the crazy muslims

  • thats about 7 months worth of oil- almost not even worth the trouble-mind you it will take about 20 years to extract all of that oil even with advanced extraction techniques

  • Comment removed

  • To the terrorists who marked my comment down, I'd just like to say - you're either with us or against us.

  • 4.8 billion barrels is a drop in the world oil bucket. And it's high cost oil

  • From the BAKKEN formation? You sir, are an idiot. It is HIGH QUALITY oil and can be gotten out cheaply by horizontal drilling and making seepage openings in the rock only two miles down. 4.8 TRILLION barrels of oil at minimum in the Bakken formation & would last the U.S. for 2041 years! Oh, we're going to get it, you just watch.

  • Comment removed

  • @TTURedRaidr 4.3 billion, NOT trillion... the US uses about 25 million barrels per day... that is 6 months...

  • @jahlawless but retard, there are other places that we get our oil from to you know? its not just north dakota and montana.

  • The US is a tyrannical rogue state. The EU must invade America to bring the people freedom and liberate this here oil.

  • Montana and North Dakota are our energy GODS OIL, COAL, WIND.

    FTW!!!

  • I live there :) lol...the only reason we ever got on to national news...haha

  • FARGO - the movie too !!

  • Oh yeah, your right!! lol.

  • Yeah, but Fargo isn't even close to the Bakken. Williston is.

  • What did he mean by This is a resources but don't get excited because won't produce? I missed something

  • Creating oil out of oil shale is energy demanding. In worst cases you have to use more energy than what get out of the oil when you use it.

And I guess the price is too high also.

  • I think this is great I just hope they dont mess it up with climate bills and endangered species laws.

  • Goldnev Resources (V.GNZ) has one of the biggest oil shale finds in the world. More than 2 BILLION BARRELS of OIL. More important the discovery is shallow and very easy to get to, which is a problem with most other discoveries.

  • carbon is NOT a polutant --- it is an element

  • While these numbers would appear to indicate a massive reserve, the percentage of this oil which might be extracted using current technology is another matter. Estimates of the Bakken's technically recoverable oil have ranged from as low as 1% — because the Bakken shale has generally low porosity and low permeability, making the oil difficult to extract

  • Far sure a new hot topic!

  • when we extract oil from the ground and

burning it for fuel, it releases carbon back into the atmosphere which was before perserved in the time of dinosaurs.

predictions say that as the antarctica ice melts due to global warming which acts as a circulation for our planet earth. The air we breathe will be 8 times as bad and filled with toxic gases.

A way to save the planet is to grow more

vegetation where carbon will be stored in the microscopic pores into the ground and will be used as oil.

  • you've been brainwashed by the liberal media SonicXStyle

  • its not about being brain washed. the result can all be tallied up. there is even a sharp increase in temperature all over the world. dont you think if it was the media making this up there are researches to disapprove of this.

  • im an ind. that leans far left and people have to realize throughout history people have said this. ICE AGE COMING! or Ozone is gone we will all burn to death. the sun has periods of time were there are sun spots which can effect temp all over the world. the whole planet was frozen solid at 1 time. there is no steady state in the universe. its funny al gore has all this shit about saving the planet but owns a company that would profit from global warming. or is he just trying to save us.?

  • I can see a small island in the pacific like Tuvalu being submerssed in water within a short period over time but as for temperatures dropping or increasing? I say , live for today and stop giving billions to Global warming.. Does anyone knwowhere he lives?

  • Your philosophy of the now is so obscenely similar to mine. And hmm, why do you suddenly want to know where he lives? It can't be a celebration of humanity with cakes and champagne that's for sure heh heh heh.

  • well, I was maybe wanting some of the money back lololol

  • same deal around west Texas. They drilled wells around here in the 70s and 80s that produced so much nat. gas that they just capped them, rather than try to flare it all off. now everyone is looking for them on their property lol

  • As soon as the USGS submitted this report to Congress, the first order of business by those climate change hoaxers was to deliberate on a bill than will ban additional oil drilling! I guess collecting carbon taxes from destitute families and farmers on the brink of bankruptcy is far more economical and will yield immediate returns to fill their bail out coffers! Don't get excited America, they have other plans in store for you.

  • Comment removed

  • So you're saying you knew about 503billion, with a 'b', barrels of untapped crude?

And we haven't started drilling for it?

The fact of the matter is that there are many people in power, inside and outside of the U.S, who don't want the American people to:

    1.) know about this &

2.) do anything to utilize this.

  • me and my wife own land in the north eastern bakken area of montana im still waiting for word on the oil ther

  • gas is like a $1 45 in fargo nd

  • nom nom nom!!!!! hehekekeke I feel like cybering! V

  • MSG ME ON MSN MESSENGR !!! ID IS jane24belle. im bored and need someone 2 talk 2 X

  • DRILL, DRILL, DRILL sounds like kids saying I want it NOW,NOW,NOW!

  • Getting Paid. Ft. Berthold Oil Barons.

  • The most facinating thing about this issue to me is that inspite of the oil beneath us we still pay as much for gasoline at the pumps as any where else.

  • drill it

  • Hey dumbshits: Do the math. The USA uses about 25 million barrels of oil a DAY. 8.3B divided by 25M = 332 DAYS of oil. Wow - less than a YEAR of oil. MSNBC reported ANWR has 10.2B barrels. Again, DO THE MATH: 408 days of oil. So, between ANWR and Bakken you got about 2 years of oil coming to ya. Lemme know how that works out... Morons.

  • hey dumbshit: until sustainable and economical alternative energy sources are developed it is essential to develop and exploit conventional sources. including oil and clean coal technologies.

  • It also has 1.8 TRILLION CF of nat gas.

-there are many other shale oil formations besides bakken, that are becoming available. Thanks to horizontal drilling techniques; an estimated 750 Billion barrels of shale oil, with new advancements, will become accessable.

  • HAHA baby I love north dakota i live in killdeer and i got 4 oil wells baby all bakken formation and they produce great still over 150 barrels a day after 3 yrs

  • faggot

  • I meant too late to buy land in that area.

  • u can buy the land but that doesnt mean you will end up with any of the mineral acres.

  • I'm assuming it's too late to buy oil there.

  • well - lets mine this oil then! It will bring jobs to this area of the country too.

  • 4.3 bliion barrels LOL thats nothing.. we here in alberta have 1.7 to -2.5 trillion barrels LMAO

  • Which u cant pumo worth a damn now.. maybe in the future though..

  • well we can get at a 176 billion now lol

  • Klaatu barada nikto

  • . . . the day the earth stood still.

    :-)

  • Do you think we can stop Gort from destroying the Earth?

  • do we want to?

  • C'mon folks, you gotta think bigger than this. It's not about the oil. It's about control. It's about keeping us in the dark.

The powers-that-be know that there's plenty of oil, but continuing to use it will eventually kill the planet.

The future is clean energies like hydrogen, wind and solar. Right now, harnessing those energies is free; and they're biding their time (making all the money they can) so that they can figure out a way to own the sun, the wind, and the rain.

  • You're right the government is keeping us in the dark....THEY WON'T LET US DRILL!!

  • its not just the government in a whole, its the damn democrats

  • I agree, think big. There is technology hidden in the basement of the Pentagon that is free energy that was given to us by aliens from another world. Before the end of this year, space ships will land all over the world. It won't be an attack, it will be a welcome party from the Brotherhood of Planets of over 200,000 advanced entities. They have lots of technology to share with us to clean up the Earth, grow lots of food, and have unlimited energy. The powers that be will be out of business soon

  • ha ha ha . . .o.k., karlmeyers.

    :-)

  • Man, I'm 16, I was born in South Dakota and also lived in North Dakota, WE NEED TO USE THE OIL. Once I'm 18, I might move back to get a job at the pumps as a salt truck driver. They're gettin payed AT THE LOWEST 80 grand a year.

  • There is plenty of oil for sustained growth of the consumers of this planet for at least 500 years even as we reach 9 billion people over the next 30. It is all about control. Hey, if we had'nt allowed all of the big corporations to sell us off on the cheep. This Country would be fine. But they would prefer to render us to3rd world status.

Our dollar is less then it ever has been because the fed will not stop printing fiat currency. Even these finds cannot save us unless we cure the evil.

  • This might be our last best hope to significantly increase domestic supplies. Can't drill offshore, can't drill ANWR.

  • If significant oil is produced, the folks of ND and Montana should demand what the citizens of Alaska receive. Each year Alaskans receive a dividend from a fund based on royalties charged oil companies that pump oil out of Alaska. Or better yet, all Americans should receive such a dividend and where ever oil is found in the US such a dividend fund should be set up and shared with all. This is a better idea than a windfall profits tax although there is nothing wrong with taxing unearned profits.

  • The most facinating thing about this issue to me is that inspite of the oil beneath us we still pay as much for gasoline at the pumps as any where else.

  • Hey, I couldn't agree more with you, you can blame EVERYTHING on our congress and overall government. What good does oil do us sitting in the ground? We drill now, then come up with alternative every (that's cheap) while we use the oil. But wait, that makes to much sense for our government.

  • thank-you for the fine reply to my comment

  • no problem. Glad to have a conversation with different view points as long as they're not "extremeist" or rude. If you want we can discuss more.

  • I would like to believe that living in a region where oil is drilled would be an economically fortunate condition for people of many varied career fields something like what was experienced in South Dakota in the 90s where when the farmer did well everbody did well. I have experienced events here in Bismarck, however, that seem to indicate that local prejudice and politics tend to channel fortune to only select 'insiders'.

  • Educated Americans know that the media hype and rhetoric surrounding Big Oil is just a bunch of hot air designed to distract the general public from what's really going on.

The world is NOT running out of oil; and won't be anytime, soon.

Oil companies have manipulated regulatory processes to create artificial shortages and limit competition.

Additionally, they are systematically using fear and lies to drive up prices, and in the process amassing obscene amounts of wealth.

  • I kind of agree with you, personally I blame the high prices on our government for placing so many taxes and not letting us drill. But I do understand where you're comming from. Something needs to be done (we can both agree), but it better not involve the government UNLESS it's them letting us start to drill more again.

"A government that governs least, governs best" -Thomas Jefferson. In other words, the government better not start controlling prices.

  • Keep dreaming. Jus like the run your car on water shit. This will blow over just like that.

  • "It's not going to produce," TRANSLATION: "there are people in powerful places that won't allow it to produce. Because of course, it would disrupt their little New World Order plans." I am so sick of all this fucken inside obstruction aimed at the progression of humanity at seemingly every turn. (Sorry first time I used profanity on the internet.) I am pissed.

  • haha you can take that to the bank man, america has enough oil to make gas free for americans for the next 100 years. will it happen? nope, like you said, there are people in high places that want to destroy america, and they're well on the way.

  • what a contradiction.

  • Americans go to every gas station to fill up but not Mobil stations. After about one month Mobil's stock starts to crash. We tell them when $150 a gallon reads on the pump, we will buy from them. BAM Cheap oil~!!!!

  • I agree with you but I believe you meant $1.50, but its a matter of coordination. The problem is ultimately the same people own all of the oil companies they just hide the fact. But many people would be hurt in that company if it were done. I am starting to like the Compressed Air car alternative, and of coarse the hydrogen vehicle. Check them out. This would end their manipulation all together.

  • Vote for sale.

Let's use the money to start Apollo (NASA) type research into achieving individual energy independence (off the grid) for less than 5000.00 per household and less than 1000.00 a year in cost.

Any candidate that supports this will have my vote.
