reverie (the end of the song) is one of the most insane things. Its like castlevania or the medevil catholic gothic feel. the feeling is hard to describe.
yeah man ill probly check out their new album when it releases and i do know a song or 2 from damnation and they are really good! bands like opeth are why i like undergroung prog, rock and metal!
i was at the heavy T.O festival and opeth was there. at that time i had never even heard of opeth but when i heard them i thought they were pretty good and i dont like death metal but the one song i really liked was i think the grand conjuration and i enjoyed the clean vocals in it because this mans voice is amazing. but r u serious about their next album being only clean vocals? if so thats going to be awesome and i cant wait to check it out
@ShiftyStealthy Heritage, their latest album, is all clean vocals, just like Damnation (which you should absolutely check out if you haven't heard before). It's very prog-rock-y, too (Heritage).
One of my favourites. This would have fit great on Damnation, it's just so brilliantly mellow. Ghost Reveries is my favourite Opeth album at the moment.
If anything, Opeth is closest to the style of Porcupine Tree. Mainly because the two bands are directly influencial upon one another. As Steven Wilson aides Opeth in some of their productions.
@Theonewhoclimbs28 haha, she's still too young for deliverance. I'll acquaint her to heavier stuff, in due time. A love for heavy metal doesn't happen overnight, and you have to be a certified metalhead to feel calmed by it ;) In time... Makes me wonder how Metal will have evolved by the time she's a teenager, you know, old enough to fully appreciate the genre. Also makes me wonder if I'll still be faithful to it or just become a boring old fart with no taste in music. I fucking better not...
@excentricity You know what's funny? Some kinds of death metal (the early melodic stuff) and melodic black metal just put me right to sleep. It really is an acquired taste, but once you get used to it, it really is the best.
Tool doesn't even compare to Opeth...They are way beyond anything Tool could come up with. If I were Opeth I would almost consider the comparison an insult...
@gbenn666 I wouldnt say an insult. Opeth is prog death metal, tool is prog/alternative heavy metal.both focus more on the sentimental value of the songs. however, tool focus more on lyrics where opeth focus more on atmosphere. both awesome however
@789vix idk man, you are entitled to your opinion. however i believe we can both agree that both bands have the same atmosphere when listening. and just like you said, "beyond listening".
@lateralsx7 judging by the way APC + TOOL + Puscifer sounds, who knows? Maynard and the rest of the band could've changed up their style. like i said, i heard this on WSOU without previous knowledge of what band it really was. Also, if you've ever listened to TOOL, compare Undertow to Lateralus, then Lateralus to 10,000 Days. they experiment with their sounds. Don't try to correct me, I know where I stand on this.
sounds little like indian classical

The second part of this song reminds of me of the soundtrack to Sonic Adventure 2. For some reason it reminds me of the Meteor Herd level...

This is just magnificent, one of the best songs from the best album ever made. Long live Opeth.

@12Leviathans I know exactly what you mean. Spyro 1 - World 1 Stone Hill Level.

Yes, I know, there's the whole pregap thing, but I still think the tracklisting should be "Atonement/Reverie" and then "Harlequin Forest".

This sounds like a vintage prog rock recording from the late 60's early 70's, fucking epic how versatile Opeth is \m/

I'm hoping that Heritage (Opeth's new album, Sept. 20th 2011) will have this style. Since it'll be clean vocals only.
This is one of my favorite songs ever, and since I love Queen, The Doors, Nine Inch Nails, and whatnot that's quite a thing.

I got a lot of love for the part at 5:20 onwards. The whole song is awesome, like most Opeth stuff, but that part at the end gets me every time.

@gbenn666 lol thats just your opinion, keep that in mind.
And Opeth band members would rather be ashamed by youtube fans who can't live without comparing bands that have nothing to do with each other.
Tool is a whole other style so shut the fuck up all of you with comparing and listen to the damn song if you want to respect the band
