yeah at 1:17 i did that on a level 2, at one point u just come up the stairs and medusa heads are already flying at you, u jump a couple platforms and before the ceiling above u ends u let a medusa come at u, and hit u as u jump and i'm already on the 2nd floor of that part of the stage, i've seen it done on speed runs
A glitch is "a fault or defect in a computer program, system, or machine." It's a fault that Simon can reach that platform that he is not supposed to be able to reach.
Number 2 isn't really a glitch. It's known by castlevania players since the game was released. Usually used to skip that part for speedruns and stuff.
Yeah but the SoTN one was kinda ridiculous in the way you just fly like 3 screens from one hit. Almost makes me wonder if that one was intended or not.
Imho, it's probably a low defense + luck calculations that has gone horribly wrong, for example, overflows n the physics calculations causing Alucard to be thrown backwards more than usual.
There could be a condition that dampens the Y-axis so much and given so much energy by the attack (due to lack of armor), Alucard gets thrown back virtually without falling
Notice that in that glitch, Alucard stopped because he crashes into a vertical wall - he did not land as usual.
I found the first one by accident, I wasn't paying attention to the game and I waited a little while before pressing start (yeah the 2 demos). However, the music did start over after I got a bit further into the level (actually, I died once and the music didn't play until I got to the boss, the big bat). Then the game played the boss music and everything was back to normal.
I think I know y... when I was developing a similar game mechanic a few years back, there's a glitch as well... it's like a 1 laser shoot kill kind of weapon.
Reason? Coz every weapon instant has a cooloff no-hit timing. However, this timing applies ONLY to 1 target. Remember, CV is running around 50-60 fps.
Therefore, once there's a switch in targets, the timer resets and changes target. The algorithm itself has a design flaw which make it changes its target per frame, thus causing the hits.
In conclusion, I'd say, consider this as an easter egg instead of a glitch.
At that point of time, there's nothing much the developers could have done with the technology available.
This only works for weapons that doesn't remove itself when it strikes a target. Therefore, the AXE might work too if the conditions are right.
Another thing to note, the instant kill wasn't really instant - it was (8/frames), ie, 8/60fps = 130ms. Why 8? Coz it's 2 hits on 2 targets per frame until the next frame.
The reason y this trick won't work on drac is because there'll only be 1 single entity. However, there's a trick there as well.
If u arm urself with the holy cross (boomerang), and when u fight the 2nd form, wait for him to shoot out 3 fireballs from his head.
ur cross should hit his head exactly at the point he fired, it should deal 1+1+1+1 - up to 4 hit points (which is represented by 2 hit points since he has double life in 2nd form) - not enuf to kill but it's another easter egg i guess.
Technically there are three.
1) Simon's sprite data is loaded incorrectly at game start.
2) Simon flashes at game start but receives no powerup to his whip.
3) There is no music.

Last glitch: While fighting the bat, climb the stairs. And keep climbing.

There's NOT SUPPOSED TO BE BACKGROUND MUSIC. It's called a CHEAT.

1. The blinking statue is the only real glitch. 2. NOT A GLITCH. 3. Music not playing after demo is programmed into game.
Read your definition of glitch again. Sorry, but you are wrong. There is no fault or defect reaching a platform, it's skill and brains at that point.

That's right, that's so not a glitch...
However, the method is similar to the way how some ppl avoid getting their Alucard items stolen by Death in SoTN...

Now that you mention it, yea he only stopped when hitting a wall.
And I must say that I'm impressed to have found yet another smart person on Youtube. That's something you don't see every day for sure.
saiyoucho 2 years ago
pls don't say that, i'm sure there're many who've seen thru the cause of this glitch already. :)

I'm not basing it on just the glitch. I'm just saying it's rare overall.

I've found all of these myself and the hit boost isn't a glitch.

@thrawn80 huh?
guillenfan 1 year ago
Ok here's how it probably works.
1) The axe remembers who it had hit and will not hit it again for the next say, 500 milliseconds
2) The axe has to be able to hit others and transfer that invulnerability to others who might get hit as well
3) Since there could be many enemies, the axe will only store just 1 "victim"
4) If the victim changes, the axe hits again and resets the timer
5) If there're more than 1 victim in the same spot, it becomes death incarnate for all enemies. Including drac.

I identified 2 of 3 correctly. I am teh skilled gamer! I thought #3 were the pink ghosts of scary homophobia.
And I hate Castlevania 2 so much.
