My machine shop cleans out the port and welds in a thick aluminum stub. My guy is in the Bronx but I am sure you can find someone near you who can do it. I can send you photos of the repair if you like.
I have a wallered out exhaust port on a 500 triumph '67. is there a quick fix for this? I know it's not the best thing but I am trying to buy time until I can get another head
thanks I will do this as i sure want to keep this bike it was a 50th birthday presant from my wife and 3 grown sons i have wanted one since i was 9 . thanks again love your videos on you tube
HI hope you dont mind me asking you but i got a 1974 triumph 750cc a month ago it has not been used since 1986 the stator and rotor was badly rusted and the cluch I have replaced these cleaned the carbs and oiled the cyilinders the motor turns when kicked over and it has compresion ,just a finger test up to know but do i need to tear the motor apart and cleen the sludge trap as i have heard that the motor can blow up if the trap is full is there any way to know without a teardown ? thanks tom
There is no way to know whether the sludge trap is full. Also one or more rings may be stuck even though you feel some compression. If you plan to keep the bike for years then you will enjoy it far more if you rebuild the motor now rather than let it deteriorate till it really needs it (or blows up.) You may not have to do a full rebuild; just take the barrels off so you can see the rods and pump oil into the crank from the side. You will see whether the oil flows into bearings
Thank you so much for this vid.I was thinking about doing this myself on my 750 Tiger chopper. After watching this I have decided to take it to the shop!
