  • You don't want to drink the tap water because of the FLUORIDE in it...very bad for you.

    Google dangers of fluoride.

  • Look inside the heating element of your coffee maker to see what is in your water. Tap builds up sludge, 3 gallon distilled does not.

  • Tap water is better than bottled water. Bottled water sits in a plastic container and absorbs all that chemicals. Plus plastics isn't biodegradable. There is a doc named Tapped that shows how bad bottled water is.

  • dowser water taste like toilet water... just putting that out there.

  • Its because of the temperature! tap water is warm yuck, and who has time to make it cold. i used to then i enjoyed it! Such a good point, i wont get bottled water anymore to save money.

  • It definitely makes a big difference where you live with the taste of the tap water. I live on one of the Florida Keys and we are told not to drink the tap water here unless you boil it because our main sewer pipe line and our water pipe line are right next to each other and both are so old they break on a monthly bases. Now how would want to drink sewer laced tap water?

  • Well it does make a point that tap water from different places are different. Some tap water has a bit of chlorine in it...that's why I usually filter and or boil tap water before I drink it, but yep.

I won't drink bottle water. When I did I've gotten bottle water where the plastic in the bottle got into the water and it was nasty and not healthy. Maybe it was because they used cheap plastic or soemthing, but I don't take the chance anymore.

  • The major reason why everyone thinks bottled water is better than tap is because they never put any ice in it and let it cool down. Their excuse for this is it dosn't look healthy enough'.

  • The only time I'd buy bottled water is A.) When I need it on the go, as in going on a trip where sinks are not readily available.

Or B.) When I feel like drinking FIJI. For some reason that water reminds me of the 50's. =/

  • I buy my water in cans, mixed with some alcohol, grain, and some other stuff

    tastes much better.

  • all the cool kids drinks fridge water. i just wish the water came out faster -_- it takes like forever to fill my cup.

  • Ice water tastes just as good

  • Why didn't they mention chemicals and lead???

Those are the 2 major reasons to buy bottled water.

They spent the whole segment talking about taste.

  • Because they don't know how to report on something if their life depended on it!

I don't know anyone who buys bottled water because of taste.

If I buy bottled water, it's because our city water smells like a public swimming pool and was tested to be "dirty".

Nothing compares to reverse osmosis bottled water.

  • By law tap water has to be free of chemicals and lead. If you got it in your tap water you probably should replace your conduits. In fact stale bottled water always has more bacteria in it than tap water.

  • Lead in which water?

  • There are traces of lead (pronounced "led") in tap water (depending on the pipes that bring water to your house/apartment. It can be very bad for you if enough of it builds up in your system.

  • So what do I do with the old pipes in my house to clean up the flavor? Rip them all out and spend hundreds on new pipes and plumbers?

  • what's wrong with that? lol

  • I prefer filtered water from my fridge, but we have a well not tap water. But I I was going to go get water from somewhere, I'd go to Shatly Springs.

  • Floridas tap water tastes like shit, not saying bottled water is much better as water should be free, but Floridas is baaaad.

  • although florida's water taste like it came straight from the swamp, after a while you get used to it.

  • It probably did.

    But got cleaned up.

  • Filtered tap water tastes the best to me....the filter was crazy expensive tho

  • Bacteria is not Chemicals.

Fluoridated Tap water is horrible for your health, and Fluoride is not the only bad Chemical in your water.

Also most of the Fluoride you get in your water isn't the same as in your toothpaste. It is scraped off of factory chimneys and pipes and dumped into the water, after all why would they waste Fluoride they could put in toothpaste?

    Fluoride is Killing Us. Literally.

    This Needs To Stop.

  • Also You have to be careful to not drink distilled water, Your body still needs minerals.

My Grandpa died from kidney deficiency as a result of drinking distilled water: What we do is get pure spring water by the 5 gallon Jug. Its not much more expensive and is WAY better for you.

These people only searched for bacteria in the 2 waters. Yes tap water probably doesn't have much bacteria but get a water report for your area, I can guarantee you you can find multiple chemicals in the water.

  • Thanks for the tip!

  • What I have Covered are more of the major defects but there are hundreds upon hundreds of horrible things Fluoride can do to your body: There is even reason to believe that bathing or showering in it increases your chances of skin conditions such as Psoriasis.

Do Research For 5 Minutes On The Health Benefits And The Serious Health Problems Of Fluoride And Compare Them.

    I Dare You.

  • Bonuses of Fluoride: Whiter Teeth

This Is A Fake White However, Because It Has Been Proven That Fluoride Weakens The Inside Of Your Teeth In Order To Strengthen The Outside.

I hope Whiter Teeth is Not Worth This To you.

    Read Your Toothpaste Bottles!

They say that if a certain amount is swallowed you should call poison control.

If a child is drinking as much as they should and it is all tap water they would be taking in MORE than that amount of toothpaste in one day on average.

  • 20/20 conducted this test on NYC tap water which is kinda unfair because in china the tap water is horrible. But if you're a NYer like me, drink ur free water! (it comes out of ur taxes)

  • No wonder Aquafina tastes like shit, it's from Detroit.

  • rofl

  • copying Penn & Teller

  • Bottled water tastes worse than tap water. Most of them taste like they have massive chlorine content. The best tasting water I've had was from a small island, with almost no civilization, from a spring, at a summer camp.

  • Damn new yorkers and your delicious tap water. Tap water here tastes like shit.

  • one thing that isnt taken into account is that NY tap water isnt cleanest in spite of the fact that it comes from a big city, its cleanest BECAUSE it comes from a big city. they clean the ever loving shit out of it in order to protect the residents. i dont know how the tap water is in other cities though, because all they ever test is NY tap. somehow everyone assumes its filled with plague

  • Face it folks, things taste better if we pay more for them.

  • in fact, why don't you go down to a municipal water supply system and ask then for a test results!

  • They tested this water for germs. Germ factors for all of the tested waters will very easily even out with multiple tests, however they did not say in this video that they ran chemical tests on the water, searching for fluoride, chlorine, drugs introduced into the water from urine (IE birth control pills), and many other nasty chemicals. There is a difference between Germs and Chemicals and in the video they stated they only ran germ tests.

  • flourine = Prevents tooth decay, Good

chlorine = Used for filtering germs, Good

Don't know about the other "nasty" chemicals you're so scared about. But take into account how many people have died or got sick due to tap water, now factor out the ones due to germs and viruses.

You'll have almost zero deaths and illnesses.

But bottled water is good for something, when you're in the shop and you don't want a fizzy, sugary drink, you can pick something clear and healthy for you.

  • Fluoride does not prevent tooth decay there's not even a single study that validates that study

however scientific studies since ww2 confirm fluoride makes people stupid and passive

this is why Hitler order fluoride be given to prisoners of concentration camps to prevent riots

Even the EPA is coming out saying fluoride is producing a generation of stupidity that need the government to tell them what to do

just you tube fluride you brainwashed fool

  • In our area we have fluoride in our water by a 51% - 49% vote, last year this was 52-48. I was one of the people passing out fliers about how bad fluoride was for you.

Fluoride is a very serious issue and can cause problems such as but not limited too:

    Osteoporosis and Arthritis

Increased Hip Fractures In The Elderly

Cancer (5% higher chance if you drink fluoride on avg.)

Increased Infertility In Women With More Fluoride

    Brain damage: continued

  • Brain Damage: Children Who Don't Drink Fluoride Have A Significantly Higher IQ Than Children Who Do (Especially Children). Fluoride Was Also Tested On Rats Many Times And Was Scientifically Proven To Be Neurotoxic. Rats Exposed Before Birth Were Hyperactive And Those Exposed After Birth Were Constantly Hyperactive.

Fluoride Can Pass From A Mother Through Her Placenta To Her Baby.

    Alzheimer Disease

    Thyroid Disorder

These are some major ones and there is much Scientific Evidence To back them up

  • After Birth Where Constantly Depressed, Sorry.

  • ok , but i don´t think he should consider NYC water as if all pipes had such a good water. NYC has the top tap water, other places water is undrinkable!

  • at this point its been my pee at one point so just live with it.

  • go watch Esoteric Agenda. and wikipedia sodium fluoride. sheesh.

  • water is water it doesnt taste like anything so how can you say that it taste bad i mean like if u taste blood or something then okay but tap water shoulld have germs you would think cuz it comes from the pipes and the ground water sourcces but also the iceland and france springs or what ever do so water basically comes fromt he same place at the same time to the same people its all your taste buds. :]

  • I am really getting tired of people knocking bottled water. For me, it's convenient on the go, and it does actually taste better to me. No, I'm not "bullshitting" myself. I actually do prefer bottled water.

I haven't had any problems. No cavities, no heart issues, nothing. The tap water where I live isn't as good as some other states, and it usually has a weird color to it.

  • If you live in a town that the tap water processing system is bad or been corrupted enough to give you water that look orange. you can try to buy a very good home filtration system that'll mostly undo that. I personally have a home filtration system good enough that I can taste the real difference apart from bottle water and even tap waters. for example I can my home filtration system can even allow me to either lower or raise the electrolyte on the water.

  • Fear, the best marketing tool.

  • Come on over to where I live and I will give you a glass of my "oh so yummy" brownish-yellow, crap smelling tap water.

New York City water systems is one of the most expense and high tech water systems in the nation. It tastes good. (Since the hurricane)I wonder if people in New Orleans want to drink their tap water or a bottle of water? How about you go test the water now?

  • water is water - has the same chemical properties regardless of where you got it from. the water that we drink is the same water that's been flowing through the earth's ecosystem for billions of years.

  • wrong most water has an additive called sodium fluoride, Google Fluoride dangers should get you started

  • I'd say you're wrong water is water; sodium fluoride is a particulate within the water. And if you think your body doesn't need fluoride then your wrong again. Been to the dentist right? Remember that gel thing you had to put in your mouth when you were a kid? Fluoride gel for healthy teeth and gums ;)

  • the flouride in municipal tapwater is there so that our teeth stay healthy. That is a fact.

  • I think most people who say they can taste a difference between bottle or tap are bullshitting themselves.

  • I don't think there is a difference between tap and bottled.

Water is water. If you choose to get bottled good at ye.

  • Penn & Teller's version of this did the same thing as Stossel does here: spend many minutes and words discussing tap water without mentioning the long term health effects of regularly ingesting poisonous chlorine and fluoride. What is it with these "libertarian" ideologue propagandists and the truth?

  • Not all tap water is the same in all areas, I choose to drink bottled water, it does in fact taste better & I choose not to ingest fluoride.

  • The only health difference between tap water and bottled water is whether or not either contain fluoride....

  • Its all up to what treatment plant you get it from, my town does not put fluoride in the water.

My brother in new york state gets water that is visibly orange, and "eats through the pipes" according to a local plumber.

  • Take water out of the ground for almost nothing and sell it back to the people who's tax dollars funded getting it in the first place and charge more for it than gasoline...

Walk up folks, you are being duped!

  • evian spelled backwards naive

  • lol because the idiots that pay that much are very very naive

  • the bottled waters plastic will seep chemicals (samll amounts) over time (a long time) into the water, but chemicals nonetheless... so tap water vs. bottled? you choose

  • a few times when i turn on the tap the water is all brown and rusty and it smells like shit but im sure its still rust :\

  • I'll drink tap water... usually, if I'm really thirsty I'll drink it. However there are some places where I've tasted it, it seriously just tasted... BAD. Some places certainly have a distinctly different taste... and it just tastes BAD.

  • New York city tap water is very clean than L.A.

  • but it contains pharmacetical drugs

  • Wait- NY water is one t=of the historical best? And they chose it by RANDOM to compare to bottled water? WOW! What a coincidence! lol

  • Check out my video. In it I address the TAP vs BOTTLED WATER issue.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you: The Democratic Party. :-P

    I kid, I kid...

  • I was raise in new york city and drank tap water half of my life, never had issue with it, I've moved to new jersey omg i couldn't drink the water in jesrey, so i live buying bottle water. When i go to new york to visit the familly i drink right out of the tap and dont have a problem. i always like new york water never had an issue with it.. so is true new york water is the 1 of the best.

  • lol i drink bottled water cause i don't want pop lol and its most likey cold!

  • I am bottled water

  • o yeah? My MOMS bottled water!! :-P

  • see this is the main reason why i never buy bottle water. im fine with tap water i drink it all the time. my bf gives me crap about it but he refuses to drink tap water.

  • In their business opportunity end of things, they provide you with the ability to do retail sales or you can help others build their business. They offer incentives such as travel dollars, company funded travel and expense program.

  • but bottled water is in a bottle for me so its easyeir, i usually get the cheap brand anyway

  • the water coming out of my tap is cloudy and smells of eggs. sometimes it is brown. I've tried to drink it... do you think I can sell it.

  • ..good stuff..I'm 50 but still easily old enough to remember the days when good tasting water came ONLY from a tap, running shoes were the cheapest things in the shoe store, clothes came with no brand names on them and people didn't believe every advertisement they saw.

  • If they tested the SUPER chlorinated water in Arizona it would lose hands down.

Oh, and the only ones "buying the hype" are those who pick the most expensive water, as the tests showed.

    Tapwater was still rated 3rd.

  • dasani is the leftover water from coke

  • water is awesome...yayayii

  • I agree with Leonicdragon below, you USA folk just aren't used to real unfluorodated water, that was not drunk by at least 8 people before you! Fluoride was used by the Nazis for mind control, and they put it in your water, in your toothpast and in rat poison.

  • actually nazis used fluorine for killing people

  • "I think tap water tastes like sewer."

Damn, it sucks that she knows that! LOL

  • Water yummmmy

  • haha water

    water is free!!

  • also, they do not mention the ph and acidity levels in the tap water they test. Hmmnn. Wonder why? Nor the flourides, lead, and chlorine.....all they mention is TASTE.

  • big deal about nothing, they should have snuck a cup of urine in with the test cups and seen who noticed the difference

  • lmao

  • LAWLZYEa

  • This video dosent really promote home filtration vs. bottled water, in fact, this video basically suggests that all bottled water, or filtered water is a waste of money, hardly a promotional resource.

  • Tap water contains fluoride, chlorine and who knows what. Drink up. search fluoride

  • also lead.

  • Yeah, I know! It causes the loss of memory in lab rats/mice...

  • what a bunch of pussies. i drink from the sinks in public restrooms. tastes all the same...

  • Ecoquest has a full line of great water purifiers.

  • I buy bottled water only occationally, usually because I reuse the bottles, but you can only reuse them so many times before they aren't terribly sanitary. So I use a bottle for a while, recycle it, and buy another to use for a while. I like to refill them with Crystal Light (made with tap water) and take on hikes.

  • Holy Fucking Shit!

    Can you Fucking believe it?!

  • I think the major difference is, the majority of tap water is fluoridated(thanks to your local and state Representatives) and bottled water isn't. Although, they now have fluoridated bottled water! Please do your homework..Flouride is for TOPICAL USE. Digesting it does not BENEFIT us in any way, shape or form...

  • What about the lead, high acidity and ph levels as well?

  • i'd like to see this test done with the presidential candidates. have each candidate's running platform spelled out without the candidate's name attached and see who people pick.

  • At Northeastern University, my labs analyzed samples of Boston Municipal tap water vs. many high end bottled waters. Tap water won hands down every time- it had least # of microorganisms. Some of the more expensive bottled water was nasty. And one in particular was equivalent to bath water! Stossel is right: you're buying the hype!

  • This is a great video. It is amazing how much ads can control what people think of something as simple as water. Your right panterastang, makes you wonder what else is just hype.

  • *cough* global warming *cough*

  • I love tap water.

  • and also....DUH!

  • this is so much more than showing how people are just wrong about tap water. It shows how easy it is to mass mind control a population through constant advertising. Think about what else is just "hype"

  • i agree. If I ask anyone I know if commercials influence them, they say no. Yet people will pay $55 for a bottle of water when FREE water is just as good. It's all just hype, and living in the moment.

  • The reason Evian was so "horrible" is b/c we arent USED to the taste of REAL water. Note it was last. I personally drink Fiji water and I KNOW there is a difference. It stay cooler longer too which I find odd. I can take a bottle of Walmart water and a bottle of Fiji and refrigerate them and put them in the same car at the same place and for some reason, the WM Water gets hot faster and tastes like chemicals where as the Fiji is cool on my palate and tastes smooth.

  • ok, but i dont really care. That's fiji, not the huge expensive crap.

  • Fiji is the same price as Evian... at least where I live ne way... and Evian was the one they were saying is over rated... I uphold my original statement of ppl like the taste of chemicals b/c they are used to that flavor. I for one cannot stand it and preffer distilled water (not in plastic gallon jugs b/c the water leaches the taste of that kind of plastic) and Fiji water.

  • And I've been to REALLY high dollar places and I've NVR seen water about 6.00 a liter so what are you referring to?

  • holy crap!
