in response to your comment from 3 months ago...i'm 37 and just recently taken it up again after the same break, i totally agree it hurts more, takes longer to heal and it also takes more to get the balls to attempt things because you know what the outcome could be. my advice is to buy a new board they are so much easier to ride. SK8 OR DIE.
I just started skating again at 43. I wish I'd stuck with it but in the small town I grew up in we didn't have parks and nobody had a half pipe, etc. I thought I outgrew it when I went to college and now that I'm losing my balance and flexibility I've decided to skate again. The really hard part is not being as agile and it hurts more when I fall now and the recovery is slower. Man to be a kid again... but then again, these are the days so live them!
15 bitter ,twisted sad fucks have watched this .......and felt the need to express their inability to enjoy a fellow human being enjoying himself.harming nobody(unless he falls)......i used to have that board........wish i still did...rolling again..and i am 46.
Lame music. Cool youre still skating. Im about to turn 40 and Ive been skating since I was 8. Theres alot of pros out there pushing 50 and still progressing and shredding...keep it up!
cool to see you skate, shred till ya dead!!!! im 35 used to skate when i was a teenager, only started again 3 yrs ago got my 7 yr old son an angelboy and rode it more than him, forgot how much fun skatin is, my boy is now 10, built a mini in the backyard we skate together at home and at local skate parks, so cool to be able to spend time skatin and havin fun
la musica no me gusta mucho, pero haces muy bien, yo tambien he recuperado los recuerdo de la infancia volviendo a patinar, soy muy malo, pero disfruto deslizandome, al final, es lo que importa, que difrute uno mismo.
heheh.. why mention 40 as if it was too old to be skatin' heheheh.. ya could be saying this if you were 60, then that would be a feat! we're in the 2010's .. 40yo guys are a lot healthier now than 20, 30 years ago... keep rocking till to more! ya still got a couple decades ahead to ride the board!
Cool as fuck mate, I am fortie three and ride an old - reissued Santa Cruz Jason Jesse, 1988 I think....Big wide Indy's and massive 1980 Pro-ams....nice and wide for my big feet.....and sticking to the walls.....I skate much better now than I ever did.....nice upload brohiem ;)
i'm a retired vietnam war private, and i still skateboard at my sweet age of 78, i can pull a lot of tricks like 900 fake live ollie with triple salad macmuffin grills on top of 2 by 2's one of a kind 7 eleven guacamole mactwister dynacom sega genesis street fighter karate kid stance.
ok thats awesome but you should have picked a better song like one from the 70's this teeny bopper song combined with an old man skating is just flat of creepy
i love little kids commenting here saying someones better than this dude. 90% of skaters are fucking trendies and dont understand skatings not about how good you are. Its the feeling you get from riding one. And enjoying it . It's good to see this guy still skating, and keeping it oldskool .
big up man, dont listen to the little groms on the comments saying rodney is 203 or tony is 65 - they are pros - takes balls to ride when yer older. im 32 and hope to be doing it for as long as my legs hold out.
@3321poser im old, and still got that "thrasher" mentality. im pretty sure there are alot of other fossils out there that would agree that w/ that attitude, sooner or later one of us would hand your ass to you...
Very nice! I'm an old timer myself, but skate only occasionally during the summer. I still manage to pull of some sweet old school and some new school tricks. I guess once a skater always a skater.
43 from CT, but brings back memories of skating in Santa Cruz as an early teenager in the late 70's myself. Aunt and Uncle still live there on Windham St and yes I have my own teen now and how I ran across video... cheers
Everyones father is 42 and still skating. Ofcourse of talking about Rodney Mullen.
This is old school, the way it should be. The reason should be because we feel like it. I think it's awesome when someone keeps doing what they like, no matter what age.
80´s...good times! Times of Christian Hosoi and Natas Kaupas, my 2 favourites American skaters in that time. Too, In that time, here in Brazil we had god skaters, like Rui Muleque, beto or die (my favourite brazilian shape-by lifestyle), fernandinho batman, Cupim, Mureta, Alexandre Ribeiro, Sérgio negrão, tron and others. Too, I remember that I had a shape of rob roskop (my favourite), trucks tracker (I dreamed of having a Gullwing) and santa cruz's wheels. (U.S. products were expensive)
80's... In that time, here in Brazil, we only watching on tv, Hosoi and Hawk disputing the hegemony of the global skateboarding, and dreaming to see, in a day, a Brazilian skater in this place. The time has passed and the dream became a reality ... Bob Burnquist, Sandro Dias, among many others at the top of the world skating! What a pride! (we can not forget about the older Brazilians skaters that are part of this, too)
Great! I'm 45 and I've been thinking of going back skateboarding again. I was on my board practically everyday from '77 to the mid-80s, and I really miss it. Nothing "radical", just skate around the local park and get some good exercise. Relieve stress and forget about adult life for a bit ;-).
You know the best part of being 40+ is that I can go and buy any equipment I want. Shortly after making this video I was at SkateLab in Mill Valley, CA (just watching not skating) and I spent quite a bit of money buying a new board, trucks, wheels, etc...all the young kids were watching me buy this stuff and just getting whatever I wanted, they asked if it was for my son, I said "no", and they were in awe....it was a lot of fun.
I've been skating since I last posted! I got back on the board, like, 2 days later, and haven't quit since! I skate at the nearby park everyday, and even tried a couple of skateparks. I'm not really into learning tricks, I'm afraid. I like to just carve and pull out my old-skool surf-style moves ;-). I've bought several old-skool boards, including my favorite ever, a '77 30"/8" Fibreflex Teamrider with Tracker Mid Trucks and 78a Tunnel Rock wheels. I've also updated my '98 new-style Vision setup
a lot of people skate when they are older its a young sport we need to keep it going in order to make it something people take seriously.its an experience that once part of your life should be kept.
Hey, I couldn't agree more...it wasn't my choice of music, rather my 7 year old (at the time) daughter. My musical tastes are fairly eclectic ranging from Neil Young to Paramore, so though I am now 44 years old, I still jam to decent music!!
Keep on skating ! See people living passions across the years is a great pleasure. I bought a SC, Jeff Kendall and will soon try to rip the bowls again ;)
Thanks, I grew skating in Columbus, Ohio...luckily during the Apple Skatepark era...it was a great indoor park so I spent quite a bit of time there...growing up on homemade ramps and halfpipes made Apple a paradise. I haven't been out this spring, but hopefully soon!! I'm 44 now!
Looks small in the video but it's a circa early 80's Santa Cruz Steve Olson...black with checkerboard, they also make white with checkboards...it's 30 or 31" long x 10.5" long with I believe a 12 degree kick...not really small at all, especially by todays standards....I can't ride a board less than 9.5" wide, I prefer the wide 10" or 10.5"...I also don't like double kicks...I am totally old school when it comes to boards...I ride a Powell Caballaro reproduction with a concave deck these days.
Alva is 51 and never stopped skating...I hadn't been on a board in over 20 years...there's no doubt I would put the smack down on Alva...and then I woke up...
Thank you for posting this Mr O,I've been viewing all the "old school" skate stuff on the web i can find and this makes it real. I'm 47 this year and going back to the pool to carve for the first time since what, '81 or so. Hang Loose
Well...I'm 43 now...going to be 44 in April, I guess I'm going to have to hit the pool again this spring...I got a new board two years ago I haven't skated yet...so I have that to look forward to.
woa you crazy dick! lol wow this cracks me up but in a good way im impressed my dad got on my board when he was like 44 and almost broke his wrist rofl!
Dudes, I'm 41 and have just bought a new Intense freestyle BMX bike... let's see how many of these young fella's are still riding and skatiung when they get to 40!! Long live the old fart's....
I'm in total agreement on the song, my young daughters picked it out and I'm getting ribbed for it ever since. Thanks for the encouragement, I have a few neighborhood kids that had the boards out a few days ago and I couldn't resist...had to skate with them.
haha, oh well, music is all co-ordinated sound, everything's good even if i say its bad at first!
but thats really awesome, i skated last night for the first time in a month or so because the weather sucks here but i try and make the most of it :) im 18 and skated since i was 12 and it's one of the only things ive never dropped out of because of a fad or trend and im proud of that much
Just cause your 40 doesn't mean you have to wear that gay ass sweater. Just kidding. Rip it

I'm 44 now!

damn.
thats a pretty small board
myunnamedaccount 3 years ago
Looks small in the video but it's a circa early 80's Santa Cruz Steve Olson...black with checkerboard, they also make white with checkboards...it's 30 or 31" long x 10.5" long with I believe a 12 degree kick...not really small at all, especially by todays standards....I can't ride a board less than 9.5" wide, I prefer the wide 10" or 10.5"...I also don't like double kicks...I am totally old school when it comes to boards...I ride a Powell Caballaro reproduction with a concave deck these days.

Alva is 51 and never stopped skating...I hadn't been on a board in over 20 years...there's no doubt I would put the smack down on Alva...and then I woke up...

hope i'll be able to do that at that age.
i am 22 and didn't skate for 6 years, but since they don't allow dirtbike's in indoor skateparks i grabbed my old board and started skating again.
Still love it.
