Saw them at Brean Sands Friday 3 Sept, was a great show with all the old songs and more, and even with the newer members ,they still sound like the old Fortunes...
i saw the fortunes in 97 with rod allen they were great and i think eddie fits in great by the way are you going to play clacton anytime cos i love to see you guys
I'm gutted at some of the comments on this,Rod was without doubt unique, and is sadly missed, but i'm sure he would be proud his friends have carried on the Fortunes,Eddie Mooney is doing a great job as lead vocalist and has one of ,if not the best voice on the 60s circuit.and is a fantastic bass guitarist..We wish all the very best to The Fortunes..From Chuckletruck Showband..
I'm Eddie Mooney, current lead singer of the Fortunes. The original singer Rod Allen approached me to join. The other band members had been with Rod many years and I had been with the Dakotas with three original members as well as with Billy J Kramer. Bob Jackson was an original with Badfinger. I'm always happy to debate these issues personally if anyone wants to email me at the Fortunes website. Or better still, come to a gig - you never know, you might just enjoy it.
So sad to see a great band turn into a 'chicken in a basket' cabaret act! Rod Allen was superb singer and musician, this is just a very sad tribute group and does not even consist of any original members!RIP Rod Allen. Watch some original footage of The Fortunes! It puts this lot to shame!
How do you define 'original members', Mertonparka? Apart from new singer Eddie, the other line-up have been together for many years; we're talking over 20 years here. With any line-up change there will undoubtedly be a period of adjustment which will of course be evident in the performance. These guys had recently lost their mate and front man, for goodness sake.
Rod Allen,Glen Dale, Barry Pritchard , Andy Brown and David Carr where and always will be The Fortunes. The cabaret scene has already got enough versions of the Drifters floating around without adding to it!
Saw Rod and the band the year before his death. He had still got a great voice. The new singer is not a patch on Rod. I know about bands changing members, but Rod Allen (Rodney Bainbridge) was the Fortunes.
I understand blueycox's comment, and thank you anonymusum. It was my uncle's wish for The Fortunes to continue playing on after his untimely death. It was my uncle's choice of Eddie, and I think it was a good one!
My apologies for this statement - The Fortunes are Dead. Long Live The Fortunes.
Sorry, but that´s how bands work. Sometimes the band survives though there isn´t a single original member in it. And sometimes they´re even better than the old line up. It´s like an idea survives...
Eddie Mooney has the toughest task in the World here but he pulls it off beautifully. Not only is he a fantastic singer (he sings the Dakotas songs better than Billy J Kramer), but he is a genuinelly nice guy who obviously loves every minute of what he does. GOOD LUCK EDDIE, R.I.P. Rod.
It's weird without Rodders, but I think Eddie is doing a brill job, and he's got a great voice. How come Mick (on the lead guitar) seems to get younger each year?! Thanks Vernonspage, another great posting!

Original members or not, this is a truly great band - real talent on the part of each and every member, whatever their history.
