lol. Bowen was shutting down guys like Nash in his MVP season, Dirk, CP3, Anthony, Carter, Billups, T-Mac, Redd, Arenas, Lebron, Pierce, Allen etc.! The list goes on and on. And that's in an era WITHOUT hand checking which made it much easier to defend back then. Bowen would shut down just about anyone he guarded, he could EASILY guard 3 positions, and sometimes the 4 as well. Bowen was a big reason the Spurs' defense was so dominant.

Go ahead and look at the Spurs' last 3 championship rosters, the only good defensive players you'll see on there are Duncan, Bowen, An old Robinson ('03). Everyone else are average to below average defenders. The Spurs-Pistons defense were practically the same in '05, except the Pistons ('05 pistons D=one of the best defensive teams EVER) were stacked with defensive players, both Wallace's, Prince, Billups, Hamilton, Hunter, Dice, etc. The Spurs? Bowen and TD lol.

The only player I remember EVER crossing Bruce Bowen was Baron Davis in Golden State, Bowen got crossed twice in that one game. Bowen wasn't as good as he used to be though, that was maybe 1 or 2 years before he retired. It's a shame he never won the DPOY award, he deserved it more than anyone in the NBA, he should've won it multiple times.

Bowen was probably the best perimeter defender in the history of the NBA, every single shot players took against him were extremely difficult, only shots that superstars could make. Not only could he guard SF's and SG's, he could guard the PG position as well. He used to shut Steve Nash down when Nash was an MVP in his prime, and did the same when Cp3 was in his prime. The only way Nash would score would be off a screen or on a pull up 3.
