The governor holds the exhaust valve open until the engine slows down, and then the engine can cycle again. The Aermotor pumping engines have their camshaft geared at 1/4 the crankshaft rpm, so the exhaust valve can only cycle half as often as in a four stroke engine. Some of the other Aermotor videos show the flywheel mounted governor mechanism.
So did these work by only firing up when the engine was loosing momentum?
