Justino Díaz comes to mind as another great bass-baritone of recent times. His Iago was the best. And his Scarpia just magnificent. He could sing a low D as well as a high B flat and everything in between.
There are several ways to be a bass-baritone. The first is to be a baritone who can't quite manage a high G or A flat. Or you are a bass who can't quite handle a low F. Then there are some for whom the fit for the great wagner helden baritone parts is just right.
Van Dam is the rare singer who can sing both bass and baritone. He has recital records with all the big bass arias and others with the big baritone arias. Bryn Terfel and Giuseppi Taddei come close but are a bit higher.
Beautiful interpretation by this intelligent singer with a very individual sound. His voice was certainly big enough. I heard him live and there were no problems in the volume department.
@Triosfrios
Please, find me a recording of any kind showing a low 'D' or high 'Bb' from Diaz.

José Van Dam was one of the favorite singers of Karjan so I assume he must have been very good at that time. And he's basso-baritono.

Very poor - no authority or "body" to the voice. Never could understyand all the fuss over this man. Rossi-Lemeni, much maligned, was loads better!

He can sing Debussy nothing else.....
Not enough dark voice.... Powerful ?Even well sung...
Too small physically and vocaly.... not theatral at all.
Sorry, because he is very great musician....
