This video has a speedo with 100 MPH yes, but the guy i was talking to said "this is slow the 0-100 in this car is supposed to be 7 seconds". I don't think he realizing thats extremely fast. I took one of these for a test drive today. When I put my foot down doing about 30 mph it took nearly a second for it to shift down and take off. Is this normal anybody? Also there was some yellow gunk inside the oil filler cap that was described by the dealer as "condesation". That can't be right can it?

It could be condensation, but best to check the coolant reservior, check the bottom of the coolant cap, shine a torch into the coolant and look for like an oil slick effect on the surface of the coolant, and feel around the inside of the top of the tank. If there is oily residue in there it's likely the head gasket has failed or the head is cracked and oil is getting into the coolant. The auto should kickdown fast, one second sounds incredibly slow, my E34 had a very responsive automatic.

dude its probobly normal. Bmw engines tend to do that if you dont drive them hard especially if you just go to the store and back. You should take it out and let it unwind at least once a week that way all the condensation will evaporate and youll enjoy your car:)

depends wat year it was for the one second thing and the yellow stuff in the oil cap um well i have only seen a kinda orange gunk there but that is only if the have not changed the oil in about 3 years. i have one a 2006 i bought it at an aution and we could tell it was a woman that drove it and she beat the crap out of it and put bad oil in it and ran it like no other and it had the orange stuff becuase of the cheap oil.

The whole thing is the launch. I think he used the secret launch, which is just a series of pushing buttons (send me a message if you REALLY want to know how, but I wont tell you unless you have an E39)

And BTW. The manual trans was stock with the 528/525/530/540. Auto was an option on all of em. So pornkinddingaling you are wrong

Its a Miles per gallon gauge, quite handy to remind you to lift the throttle a bit and improve the economy. All BMW's have them AFAIK.

He hasn't actually given me a decent reply yet apart from swearing and threatening. Anyway, I get around 31 mpg normal driving, but if I go near a town or something it does down about 27/28. Yes the auto is slightly worse, but there is not much of a market for that spec car in a manual. I usually use auto, if pushing on I use the switch gear, tbh I prefer a real manual.
