@wmelgaard Actually, they were VERY successful in Canada as well...... Last year when Crowded House came here, they played I Got You and History Never Repeats. Plus for the Time and Tide tour, they played small theaters in the big cities in the states, then came north and filled arenas across Canada, even in VERY small markets.
Fabio: Well said! And, quite true...This song was part of the ENZ's "Rootin Tootin" sessions--which also comprised True Colours and Waiata (Corroboree in NZ & Aus) albums.
No it was actually written after Luton and recorded during the "Frenzy" album sessions. "True Colours" and "Waiata"/"Corroboree" are also unrelated to Luton.
"Give it a Whirl" like several songs from "Frenzy" were remixed at least two times. The version of this video is the original from the 1979 album. The UK/USA version of the album published in 1982 included new mixes and different track list ...and then again in the 2005 remaster all Frenzy songs were remixed... I grew with the '82 version, so far only available on vinyl from that era.
it is win all bets not win or lose. after being thoroughly brainwashedd listening to crap audio for years to this song and not reading its proper lyrics anywhere written down i can pick up the lyrics finally thanks my 6th fav se song .from loyal se fan
goodonya mates -this is the music that caught the imagination and got us out of the hum-drum down trodden and cotton-wool existence that was there back then. good to see and hear that it, like us are not quite dead yet.
knowing what a dull , beige country nz was in the 70s this band was so different to anything you can imagine and so , so radical and brave to what was to offer , even in the uk or states. their best song in my opinion, saw them in 81 or 2 in tauranga . and they didnt play this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
too right, the warehouse and mitre 10 run shopping centers and soft touch cops and influx of indians etc whether polit correct or not they stand out to me as major problems
How about, THE BEST BAND EVER!!!!!!!! Well, after Crowded House, I love the Enz, great music, stuff that's not around these days. I love them. GO THE SUNNIES!!!!!!!! GO EDDIE!
yeah crowded house went the way of so many bands.after they exhaust themselves musically they resort to lyrical preaching to sell albums.
midnight oil are the prime example, and it's their later stuff is all that gets airtime..just goes to show that 99% of the population can't hear their ass from their elbow and need to be spoon-fed opinions.
About the Frenzy album: It was born out of the legendary "Rootin', Tootin' Luton sessions" in 78/79, with Niel now in the band. They thought the sessions were among their very best, but were disappointed with the mixing of the resulting album. Frenzy still is, in my opinion, a brilliant album, and is slotted in 48th place in the kiwi magazine "Rip It Up"'s list of all-time greatest NZ albums. The Split Enz masterpiece of a debut album, "Mental Notes", is firmly placed as No. 1...
Great song, video not so good.

Too right ,it is shameful how this band has been neglected outside Australia and NZ the Enz are one of the world's best bands.

God how I love this band!!! xx It delights & pisses me off in equal measure that hardly anyone in the UK knows they existed.

Why is the version of this song on my Remastered Frenzy so different than this mix?? Was this a "single mix" or??

This is the original 1979 mix; the remastered "Frenzy" features the 2006 remix.
