No, the land was not Arab from 1800-1948, the land was Turkish for almost 500 years until 1917 when it came under British Mandate. Take 10,000 years ago - perhaps there were Jews in the area known as Palestine, but were they truly a majority? Exactly how much were they a majority of? Palestinians and Jews have very similar genetic heritage. Legends, myths, and 10,000 year old history is almost certain to be off in some respects, whether it favors the Jews or the Palestinians.

To answer your question, 1900 is more important then 1776 because history from 1900 is easier to prove, theres more of it, and its more reliable.
There were very few Jews in Palestine in 1948. Most that live there now were living in Europe, Russia, etc. So, if newborns can't be born as "refugees," what right do these Jews have to Israel? According to that logic they should be citizens of whatever country they came from.
