@crazyboyxx they can, you just don´t bother to see it because it´s not in English, you have for example Grip in Germany, it´s all about English language, like movies and music, tv shows is the same.
Plain and simple.. Top Gear UK took decades to evolve into what it is today. We're all so familiar with it, the American version just looks like they're trying to emmulate the UK show as much as possible. You can't start at the top and try to do exactly what they're doing.
Plus, British comedy and the ridiculous things they do is a reason why people who don't even care about cars watch Top Gear.
And yes, filmography and soundtrack are outstanding.

But these couch debate things are really weak. JF is cool and knows what he's talking about where as Alex Roy comes across pompous and that he talks out of his ass (not knowing about old top gear, making big generalizing statements that aren't accurate). They need to replace him like top gear did when they replaced Jason Dawe with James May.

There are certainly strong similarities between Old Top Gear and Fifth Gear, but if you watch Clarkson on old top gear, you can see him developing his style of "honesty", and also the story of the review rather than simply the review of a car ("content").

I think what makes Top Gear so good is that they make the show relate to the evryday person... They talk a lot about how the car has an "x-factor" that makes you feel good!
If you can get 3 people that understand the social aspects to buying a car it makes the show feel that much better. (ex. BMW drivers are dick's) not every BMW driver is a dick but for some reason it seems when ever there is a lane ending, its always a BMW trying to merge at the very end!

I love Top Gear, but I really wish Fifth Gear could have some of it's resources. Ss great entertainment as Top Gear is. I am interested in the technical and performance side of the cars that they don't really give much time. Fifth Gear should avoid trying to replicate Top Gear though, they have failed a lot of times with different presenters etc. Keep Tiff, Jason and Vicki and let them drive performance cars on the track. My favourite show isn't Top Gear or Fifth Gear, it's Best Motoring.

They are wrong when they say its all scripted. Its scripted down to the point that ok.. were going to each pick a car and you have to argue which is best. They dont SCRIPT what to say and how to say it. While in USA they would script it to death like Jay Leno, Conan Obrian and Letterman. A team of script writers guide them through the entire show. That would kill the fun in TopGear.
The reason is clearly....Clarkson. You can always find some funny guys with chemistry. But someone like Jezza comes around once a generation...like the beatles.
Alex why are you hatting on fifth gear so much. I love fifth gear and I think a lot more tiff's opponents then Clarkson's. Tiff is a real racing driver, Clarkson is just a car guy. I do think top gear is the better show but I watch both for entirely different reasons.

What makes Top Gear? the Huge budget BBC2 gives to the producers to do some random, stupid, impractical, out of the ordinary, pointless yet entertaining tasks.

Agree to some degree of what you guys said, but I think what Top Gear does so well is sell a programme about cars to people who aren't even motorheads. I mean I'm abit of a motorhead, but when dudes start getting abit detailed/technical, I switch off too. Why Clarkson/Hamish/May combo work? = Coz they make lay people understand why motorheads love cars.

as a viewer of top gear & fifth gear i can say i watch topgear for the cars & how they are driven & reviewed. top gear also has hosts that have chemistry & a sense of humor for some reason you laugh at. fifth gear is more straight forward & i like the lady driver(never keep up with names) but overall the show isnt entertaining as topgear. the american version getting ready to drop wont live up to the standards or surpass the original cause its not original. maybe it will though.....
Top Gear is great, but my only problem is that 90% of the jokes are sex/penis jokes, which gets old. Also, in terms of automotive greatness, I say Motorweek or Fifth Gear, because there are cars people can actually buy. Top Gear is good for dramatic exaggerations and some Brits acting like idiots. And Top Gear is hardly honest.

Based on the comments, a lot of people watch Fifth Gear to. You guys have just to take it as it is, Top Gear is geared towards entertainment thus having more mass appeal than fifth gear with is geared towards more factual and orthodox car review, and actually are better giving info about cars than Top Gear which is good for consumer market. I love both shows but fact is Top Gear is better made and is more eventful to watch.
I love FLD and I know I've said it a few times how this is my least fav segment, but this was a good episode! And, good job for not mentioning Porsche or BMW!
Top Gear is great because it's entertaining. I know people who watch Top Gear who couldn't tell the differance between a Ferrari or a Paganini but they watch it cause it's a fun show to watch. They do something that is very hard to do. They found a way to make a show that if both informative and fun.

Fifth Gear have been canned, too low in the ratings. They kept re-inventing the format, but it was still a car review show and that kinda sucks on TV now. We have the interwebs for fact finding now. Tiff and Vicki are good people though, but the show died on its arse. Also they had no Stig, no celeb laps and low production values.
Top gear is better in all aspects, personality, the cars, humor, driving skills because fifth gear can't drift for sh*t, and the challenges. Plus I might add that they have THE STIG

I feel top gear is more entertainment then a car show sometimes... especially in there big films, I feel like they fudge stuff to stick with story or to make it more entertaining (but it still good)... I can't believe this is still on this show is so lame and boring. Seriously. I watch top gear love it and all, but just a convo about this matter is ridiculous. Please take off the air wasting valuable time space and money. I wish I could half star clock this or no star click this it's weak.

I really enjoy the road testament, but it would be better if J.F. does more of the talking ... Alex Roy is a bit clueless at times, he just doesn't know as much as he pretends he does.

they kinda mentioned it in the review, but also the brotherhood and bond between Clarkson May and Hammond. As much as they make fun of each other they are really good friends, i've had friends that really don't care for cars but absolutely love the show cause for quality, content and humor

They are wrong when they say its all scripted. Its scripted down to the point that ok.. were going to each pick a car and you have to argue which is best. They dont SCRIPT what to say and how to say it. While in USA they would script it to death like Jay Leno, Conan Obrian and Letterman. A team of script writers guide them through the entire show. That would kill the fun in TopGear.

Alex why are you hatting on fifth gear so much. I love fifth gear and I think a lot more tiff's opponents then Clarkson's. Tiff is a real racing driver, Clarkson is just a car guy. I do think top gear is the better show but I watch both for entirely different reasons.

It's funny, entertaining and has some of the planets best vehicles on show. It's blokey. Women love it too. For an hour on a Sunday we can stop being adults and be morons..How many TV shows can you sit with the missus and have a laugh?..TG doesn't pretend to be anything else. Andy Wilman, Jezza, May, Hamster and Stig, and the rest of the crew involved need Knighthoods.

Top Gear is awesome because anybody can watch it and like it. I watch Top Gear, Fifth Gear, and other car shows because I'm a car guy. Top Gear is entertaining to the non-car enthusiast, so it makes it that much better to a car enthusiast.

What makes Top Gear? the Huge budget BBC2 gives to the producers to do some random, stupid, impractical, out of the ordinary, pointless yet entertaining tasks.
People don't really get it but what makes Top Gear great is that they for at least 1 hour give us a glimpse of the good life in a petrolhead's point of view; 1 hour away from this cruel, boring and disappointing reality full of kitchen appliances on wheels.

Agree to some degree of what you guys said, but I think what Top Gear does so well is sell a programme about cars to people who aren't even motorheads. I mean I'm abit of a motorhead, but when dudes start getting abit detailed/technical, I switch off too. Why Clarkson/Hamish/May combo work? = Coz they make lay people understand why motorheads love cars.

as a viewer of top gear & fifth gear i can say i watch topgear for the cars & how they are driven & reviewed. top gear also has hosts that have chemistry & a sense of humor for some reason you laugh at. fifth gear is more straight forward & i like the lady driver(never keep up with names) but overall the show isnt entertaining as topgear. the american version getting ready to drop wont live up to the standards or surpass the original cause its not original. maybe it will though.....

- The guys are freakin hilarious even while they argue!
- The challenges they do are fantastic to watch.
- The car reviews are great.
- The cars tested are amazing and sometimes not.

You guys really brought it home with the characters genuinely being friends and how that comes across on camera. We know the truth when we see it.
I think the cinematography is more important than you may have lead on about.

Top Gear is great, but my only problem is that 90% of the jokes are sex/penis jokes, which gets old. Also, in terms of automotive greatness, I say Motorweek or Fifth Gear, because there are cars people can actually buy. Top Gear is good for dramatic exaggerations and some Brits acting like idiots. And Top Gear is hardly honest.

well did any body watch wheeler dealer ? i think that is a good show its shows you alot of things the dealer can do to improve the car so he can make an honest profit don't take me wrong Top gear is a good show i enjoy watching it but wheeler dealer can gives you enough information like a secondary car maintenance training program

Based on the comments, a lot of people watch Fifth Gear to. You guys have just to take it as it is, Top Gear is geared towards entertainment thus having more mass appeal than fifth gear with is geared towards more factual and orthodox car review, and actually are better giving info about cars than Top Gear which is good for consumer market. I love both shows but fact is Top Gear is better made and is more eventful to watch.

I love FLD and I know I've said it a few times how this is my least fav segment, but this was a good episode! And, good job for not mentioning Porsche or BMW!
Top Gear is great because it's entertaining. I know people who watch Top Gear who couldn't tell the differance between a Ferrari or a Paganini but they watch it cause it's a fun show to watch. They do something that is very hard to do. They found a way to make a show that if both informative and fun.

Fifth Gear have been canned, too low in the ratings. They kept re-inventing the format, but it was still a car review show and that kinda sucks on TV now. We have the interwebs for fact finding now. Tiff and Vicki are good people though, but the show died on its arse. Also they had no Stig, no celeb laps and low production values.

I love Top Gear and Fifth Gear... I feel top gear is more entertainment then a car show sometimes... especially in there big films, I feel like they fudge stuff to stick with story or to make it more entertaining (but it still good)... Fifth gear is more honest in car reviews (I think)... like Clarkson is biased a little when it comes to ferraris and other things in a positive or a negative way... thats what i think... but who cares they are both awesome shows...
