  • Saw the audience smash it up at Northampton's Derngate when The Damned played a pretty short set! Lol

  • the offspring version is every bit as good. just cus u make something first doesn't automatically mean ur version is better. look at the sonics with "have love will travel".

  • the lead singer is kind of scary

  • Batman Forever & The Offspring =P LOL

  • @MadMeddle Offspring has nothing on The Damned. They couldn't even play the full instrumental of Smash It Up Pt.1.

  • @NazNomad I don't think so, little Jimmy. The Offspring version is even better... in my brutal opinion. Plus the only reason I'm even on this video is because I found it while searching for the version that was used in Batman Forever. And a lot of people would agree with me on that.

  • great

  • shouldnt captain sensible be a admiral by now???

  • nibbled to death by an okapi...nibbled to death by an okapi...nibbled to death by an okapi...nibbled to death by an okapi...nibbled to death by an okapi...

  • Wow, still sounds amazing all these years later. We were rebellious then, now we're mainstream! Happens to every generation :-)

  • @paulrandomview We're not mainstream. The younger generation now are boring old farts who listen to shit like Subo and other X Factor crap. They are middle aged before they even start.

  • Dear Owen B111 - it.

  • To all those born in the 80's 90's and later you missed out on the best time to be a teenager.

  • @lotsata doesn't mean we can't enjoy all the great music though :) I'd much rather listen to Damned, Clash, Ramones, The Jam, etc and have my friends at school think I'm weird then to listen to the crap that is out there nowadays

  • @rutaloot good for you buddy, I feel sorry for your generation, I was born when this music came out so I am an inborn fan from the start and happy you are doing the choice to pick it up to your ears as well, keep going backward in music, I think you'll find a lot more to love in it! A lot of these bands were influenced by 60's underground garage and mod from the uk music. I'll be more than happy to direct you to some fantastic suggestions.

  • @moxie96 sure I'd love any suggestions I always like listening to any "new" music out there.....if you are interested I actually have a small music blog lightingstrikes dot blogspot dot com where I upload all sorts of music that I like including punk and stuff from the 60's

  • @rutaloot Thank you! I agree. Sometimes people in my classes ask me what I'm listening to and i'm just like The Cure or The Damned, and they say "Is that like some weird grunge rock or emo music?" I'm just like no, they are a band from the time period when music was GOOD."

  • Smash what up?

  • Comment removed

  • Algy Ward was great with the Damned.

  • This was on telly in an episode of Press Gang . . .

Only time Press Gang was any good, really (but then what does one expect from a show whose main character was Safie from AbFab and it was written by the man who'd ruin Doctor Who?)

  • only the greatest bands singers are vampires

  • Seeing them in Seattle this October and get to meet them in the VIP area. Can't wait!

  • @derek96720 ME TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I'M STOKED

  • "Smash it up" That sounds like the United States' foreign policy.

  • @JasonOzolins so true

  • @JasonOzolins Lol! It'd be funny if it weren't so scarily true.

  • Captain Sensible rocks on guitar.

  • This song is super cool... the offsprings version was ok they kept the same spirit of the song...

  • SMASH IT UP!! SMASH IT UP, SMASH IT UP!!!

  • thumbs up if you were listening to this before that shitty "its kind of a funny story" movie

  • Why cant music be like this anymore? Im 14 and this is all I listen to whenever I play this around my friends they tell me to turn it off and they start playing crappy music...but when they do I say this "Music is like candy its great once you get rid of the rappers"

  • @xXBloodyRomance96Xx i have the same problem but at least my friends dont listen to rap :P im 14 too and i love the damned, the adicts, the clash, the sex pistols, the exploited and alot of other music from that era all i can say is we were born 40 years too late.

  • I fucking love the damned...I dont even remember how I ever heard of them now...but I met them in about 2003ish...and they were all so nice. especially the captain...they were awesome.

  • I think this is the song they should play while we all run into the X factor finals and smash the shit out of the place lol XD

  • More bands should have vampires for lead singers.

  • @lewisner misfits?

  • ok i cant see daves body.......

  • smash it up. wow quel chanson, voici du bon rock de hight school .rien a voir avec la merde qui pollue mes oreil et qui veut s' appeller punk rock

    VIVE QUÉBEC CITY!!!!!!!!!

  • Classic and top 3 in best punk bands, the first punk record by them as well (New Rose)

  • like offspring's "fly" but no comparison with actual talent and spirit of the damned :)

  • My mate dragged me along to Hammersmith to see these. F**king load of shite. Plus I had to pay a tout for the ticket

  • batman forever lol

  • 24 people got smashed up!

  • the funny thing is im a friend of montys

  • This brings back memories for me.

Im sat here with mates of mine and were pissing our sides as we used to go to a youthclub called "Aspull Shack" and all they ever played was "The Dammed,Sex Pistols, and Black Sabbath.

    Happy Days.

  • man naznomad is on his period or something

  • uh whos playing the piano?

  • gajardi !!!!!!!!!

  • this is the gooooooooooooooood just get a bottle of what you like in you and jump about like ???????????

  • is everybody still smashing things now,i said is everybody still smashing things now, that song got me into the damned, many years ago.,still love it..

  • Heard the Cerebral Fix cover of this before hearing the original. It's probably one of only two or three memorable songs off of 'Bastards.'

  • The best

  • Just had a look at the Offspring version too.

This one doesn't have great sound quality but the vocals are better. Offspring has a better guitar sound. I call it a draw.

Now head on over to The Damned singing Jet Boy Jet Girl live in concert 2004. Brilliant.

  • nup it was crap...see for yourself....the Damned...much better.....

  • i'm gonna go and listen to the Offspring version.........brb

  • Wow, the rhetoric on this site/post...?!?

It's a motherfuckingly fantastic song and always has been.

Never noticed it on the Batman soundtrack, even though I've watched the latest two releases more than once... I know it from from my younger PUNK days and that's how it stays with me.

  • WTH, damn they STOLE THIS FROM THE OFFSPRING!

  • Love Em

  • The Darned.

  • the video is grainy but the sound is better than all the rest. i really just wanna listen to it anyways. i passed out in the garage and just woke up wanting to hear the damned. i am in boston and yes, i am an old man now 41 years old but i am very glad the damned was there in the 80s. i was a vampire in the 80s

  • nostalgic

  • Still dancing to a different song. Carol March 2011.

  • Classic. Love it!!!!! The Damned are the best!!!!

  • Driver 3 brought some people here!

  • great,,,,damned,,,,, dave,,,,and,,,,captain,,,,

  • I love listening to this song

    on RTE 46 in NJ.

  • Its my 50th birthday in 3 weeks, I think my teenage years came at the right time

  • @gary3640

    <--- Jealous

  • @gary3640 Hey same here im 50 in November and my punk days were great!

  • great band

  • smsh

  • the best band ever

  • this band live never EVER gets old

  • still undecided on my preference between this and the Offspring version...they're both amazing

  • lov ethe singers stage prescence.. comanding

  • @MeddleOnline Unlike little children who like batman and broom, broom cars. But whatever!

  • DRIVER 3 FTW

  • @MeddleOnline No. Some of us were around when punk took off and was there.

  • "It's Kind Of a Funny Story" :)

  • FUCKN ALLTIME FAVORITE!! NEVER SOUNDS DATED!! I PARTYED TO THIS IN MY YOUTH>> EVEN SMASHED A FEW THINGS UP TO IT! :-)

  • 21 people need their blood sucked by Dave Vanian.

  • Great song!! they don't make them like this anymore!

  • The original

  • PUNK RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Superb. I went to see the damned when I was about 12 at Edinburgh playhouse. A wild night.

  • Ian Astbury owes his entire career to Dave Vanian, IMO.

  • For some reason this song reminds me of Adam Savage on Mythbusters. Don't know why....

  • I gotta say im a little bit disapointed with this song.

  • Why does Dave remind me of Marilyn Manson here?

  • @NotSoAmericanIdiot because marilyn manson is unoriginal and prob partially ripped this guys shit off

  • @TFoneFiddy Probably.

  • awesome song !!!! ♥♥♥

  • DON'T WANT TO BE A SUCKER LIKE ALL THE REST

  • its in driver parallel lines. ooooo smash it up

  • Of their 33 year carrer this is their best. I wish it was the whole song and not just pt 2. And for the record offspring raped this song.

  • wtf,

    the song is funny xD

But the make-up is just weird ..

  • where the fuck did i here this song before, tony hawk? anyone know?

  • @danny12691 The Offspring did a cover of it for a batman movie

  • @danny12691 batman forever

  • The first punk band I went to see. Odeon, Birmingham, England. Quality.

  • released as a single in 1979. Captain Sensible rules!!

  • Thanks for adding this, have some of their albums----in vinyl.... they are orginal punkers... ...when the main radio stations were playing abba and the doobies... those of us who wanted an alternative in north america had to search out these records in import stores- no utube- no much music...

  • Thumbs up if you discovered this song through Batman Forever.

  • @MisterMeddle I hope you were trying to be funny...

  • @NazNomad And why is that? There was nothing humorous or ironic about the comment I made so I really have no idea what the hell you're on. Obviously you're highly misinformed so I will be the one to fill you in here, little Willy. The Offspring covered this song for the film Batman Forever. When I searched for the song on YouTube this was one of the results. Funny? No. It's a fact and I'm sure others did the same as well.

  • @MisterMeddle Don't come on my channel insulting me. I know the offspring covered this song. I just think it's pathetic that The Damned would get recognition through another band through a cover. I lie the offspring but they're Smash it Up is shit compared to this. As far as me being on something, fuck off...

  • @NazNomad I could care less what you think because I think the Offspring's version is better but opinions aren't facts, right? And don't be such a mark for yourself. I'm not on your channel, I am on a video you uploaded which violates the copyright laws. It's humorous how you think telling me to "fuck off" proves a point. If anything, it's just you being classless. This is only YouTube, why so damn serious? Lighten up, kid and refrain from telling me what to do. Kthx

  • @MisterMeddle Go comment somewhere else. It is youtube but also enough of my channel to block you...

  • @NazNomad

dude you're such a fucking faggot. why do you get so butthurt over something that isnt even inflammatory. fuck you.

  • @MisterMeddle No one can compare to Captian Sensibles solo on it, the offspring just threw in power chords to make up what they couldn't learn because they will never top the damned.

  • @MisterMeddle Youre a fuckwit end of better than Damned youre a eejit this was 30 years ago saw the 3 times and they rock live and wrote song Batman forever go watch it again you waste of humanity.

  • @NazNomad I'm just glad i had some good years to see The Damned during their prime. Punk is diverse, but don't tell some asshole Named Sean Costello that who thinks he knows everything about everything :) Glad ya like this band too.

  • @NazNomad this meddle bloke is a retard; leave him alone it's cruel he ain't well!

  • @MisterMeddle NO!

  • @MisterMeddle it wasnt actually this song in the film it was the offspring smash it up

  • @MisterMeddle no ur u mad,,,the damned where there at the time,,,and afine band,they r.....punk for ever,,,great band

  • @MisterMeddle W007! Go BATMAN FOREVER!!!!!!

  • @brotherwanky12 You like "Leftover Crap" so your opinion's really not worth a hot squirt of piss...

  • @ZachWildSuxxx whats wrong with Leftover Crack?

  • @ZachWildSuxxx i like leftover crack and the damned

  • Wow, this sound is so much like an early The Cure, like on 'Killing an Arab' or 'Jumping someone else's train'. (And no, i couldn't care less who started with it.)

  • The Damned are ok but I CAN'T STAND Capt Sensible. He's a complete cock.

  • does he have a Billie Joe Les Paul Jr.

  • @AcsessDeni3d Uhhh. This song came out when BJA was about 5 years old...

  • great song

  • theres always good music as long as you know where to look and every generation feels they are/were the best

  • Class!!! Sensibles crotch-less trousers, Rat's Double bass drum kit and black eye, Vanian - The original Goth? Machinegun etiquette - quite possibly the best album of the punk era - definately up there with Bollocks and London Calling.

  • Thanks for uploading never seen it takes me back and video for History of the world part 1?

  • fuckin tune like

  • its best song

  • What band! Machine gun etiquette is one of the finest albums of the time, or any time come to think of it!

  • lol i was watchn rob drydek fantasy factory ... and this song came out kooo ... good times

  • THE \/ VINES ^

  • Why is it everybody thinks songs released in their time are best? They're not. I loveThe Damned, last saw 'em Glastonbury '03 but hey, peeps are still making good music and many 16 year olds, 20 years from now will tell you that 2010 was the best year ever for music. Think about it.

  • the vines

  • @rystrttn1 Lol I put some Siouxsie on the video jukebox in a bar and some fat young tart said "who put this crap on?" Then she put James Blunt on......

  • @anthonydansullivan yeah SOME are but not many, not like we had in the 60s,70s 80s we had everything and it was all the greatest, sorry to offend but the vines wouldn't have even rated nor would nickelback or lady gag gag, sorry kids your generations' music is mostly shit except electric 6 or eodm but there's more shit than cool and good, yeah "i'm livin' in the 80s" killing joke, but we are the best
