  • It's a shame that there are so many negative comments. This video shed an important light on the existence of a very comprehensible relationship between scales and chords. I have been teaching myself to play for 3 years now and I found this video to be very constructive. I will definitely explore fretjam to see what else I can learn. Thanks!

  • This is for beginners. Otherwise give up on guitar. This is tabiture.

  • Holy shit cut the guy a break, his website is a great tool. If you can't understand this then simply work your way up to it using the more basic lessons on the site. If you aren't already familiar with intervals and notes in the major scale, the patterns used to play the scale all over the fret board, and other key concepts that are prerequisite to this, of course you won't understand it! But alas, he has many lessons covering these specific topics to help you work up to this video.

  • This is not intended for the beginner.

  • thats one shit way to teach a person - in my opinion

thanks for your input - a Beginner will reek away from this, instantly! try bringing you knowledge low, to a simple term - to a learner it is like talking Japanese.

Start this as you would a child. finding his or first stringed instrument

most people don't respond well for learning for a first look at training - being to intense

  • @virus1972 This is not for beginners. Obviously.

  • yeah right cool

  • im sorry about saying that but it really does not teach u anything welll not for me anyways

  • @jlnluvsgs Its all good, I apologize for my comment. I suppose I just didnt find it difficult to understand. Everyone had their own learning style.

  • Disregard the hate, this was great revision.

  • Your teaching style and my learning style go together well. I'm just getting into scales and this helped a lot. Thank you for the lesson.

  • Thanks a lot. Coming from piano, this is very helpful.

  • Finally something that explains the connection between scales and chords visually. Thanks bro, and keep up the good work.

  • If you are playing a scale, any scale not just A and you can't see the chords within the scale you will always be lost.

5 chord CAGED and there is 5 scales to match.

Much like the dots or marking inlay on the neck these simple chord shapes connect the neck.

    E

    A

    D

Are consider the must moveable and the G share it;s root with the E shape and the C shale share the same as the root.

    Peace

  • I cant understand this video:(

  • @sissy123493 Hmm you are not the only one. Some get it, some don't. I am obviously not explaining this concept clearly enough. It's not for beginners. Work through the scales and theory section on my site and it should make more sense!

  • @fretjamdotcom thank you someone finally gets what i am saying

  • Chords are made of 3 notes. 1 (root), 3, and 5. So, for example, if you're playing Emaj (major scale being whole-whole-half-whole-whole-whole-half), you're playing 6 strings, but you're only playing 3 notes -- E, G# (the 3rd note in the scale-1 1/2 steps from E) and B (the 5th note in the scale-3 1/2 steps away from E). If you play 3 or more notes together and they contain only E, G# and B, then you have yourself an E major chord no matter where you play it. That's the basic idea...

  • @randomlyselecteduser (I ran out of room...) It gets more complicated (7th notes n' stuff) but that's the skinny of it (I think anyway lol).

  • @fretjamdotcom

i will try someone elses video. im sure they will teach me something

  • @jlnluvsgs Maybe go find the "How to play guitar for babies" (= That might help a little. Or become a real musician and learn music theory!

  • @XTyeAlexanderX you are such an idiot im sure that i can find someone else who EXPLIANS IT BETTER THAN THEM!!!!!!!

  • This is a good explanation on the relationship between basic box scales and their chords. I’ve got to say it’s one of the best demonstrations I’ve seen on this subject. Good Job

  • no, i guess you don't get it because it DOES NOT TEACH YOU ANYTHING AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jlnluvsgs Well then try someone else's videos. Good luck.

  • I am trying to join a cult. How did I get here

  • @Rockstumes You are in a safe place now. Join us.

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • u suck at teaching jokeing i get it

  • i've found many excellent guitar tutorials on line, BUT for me, this is just about the best one yet. it get's down to the nuts and bolts and strips off the BS. as i've been searching, for a very long time for a program which "connects the dots", i feel that i may have finally hit the motherload. thanx so much to the author. ps, first- cool's nice, but substance has legs all day long... and second- could have really done w/out the burps. again, thanks!

  • Hmmm ! I need more fingers

  • Thank you for your musical lesson, outstanding. Now I have to watch it again. If I can figure out exactly what you are teaching, in time i can end my haphazard approach ...thank you from an old man

  • Oh, my god, yes -- your site is amazing. Just took a look at it, and it's like a treasure trove of theory and good stuff. Subscribed!!

  • This is perfect! Really helped me out. I agree with leftyelysium in that I'm tired of those people who post lessons about how to do riffs and shit -- or those lessons that show you how to do a simple song. I don't want to learn how to copy someone else!!! I want to learn HOW to play guitar!!

  • if a song is a whole step down but I choose to play in standard tuning, could I just not play a step down on the fretboard? Is that how it works?

I've asked this everywhere. Would be grateful for any help! Peace

  • @18tremolo Yes that should work.

  • @fretjamdotcom Thanks! God bless you

  • @fretjamdotcom this is the stupidist thiing i ever saw it does not teach you anything at all!!

  • @jlnluvsgs I'm sorry it didn't teach you anything. Not everyone gets it.

  • @jlnluvsgs I guess if you don't know OR can't appreciate the need for theory, you wouldn't get it.

  • Thanks for the vid. It helps for someone to strip down playing and explain the basic elements of playing. Some things come natural to some players and others, not so much. I appreciate lessons like this to help me rethink practical applications, instead of learning some riff by some douche bag. This is far better an approach because it leaves you open to explore and give a better way of thinking about playing. Well done!

  • @leftyelysium Thanks, I really appreciate your comment. I made the decision when I started this channel to focus on breaking down the theory because, as you say, there are hundreds of videos showing you how to play riffs. I admit my videos are a little dry and lacking that "cool" factor, but I hope the rewards are evident to those who follow them...

  • @fretjamdotcom Hey, no prob. keep up the good work. I'm now a subscriber!

  • chur bro, this has helped heaps! will visit your site for sure,

Thanks for taking the time to post this :)

  • one of a handful of videos that really explains the elements. well done. Now where do I get to learn all those scales without scrambling my head . I find themodes hard to understand as some people describe a mode as just playing the same scdale but using a different starting note.

    john

  • Seems like you need 6 fingers

  • I only know how to finger A minor

  • @MrCindersVeil YOU MAKING A COMMENT LIKE THAT CAN GET YOU INTO SERIOUS TROUBLE

  • I am overtaken and smitten by this lesson. I will listen to it again and again. God bless you good teacher. "Limitless possibilities..." Amen to that.

  • @distressed7 Do make sure you visit the theory section of my site as well. The videos alone only serve as an introduction and I go into far more depth on the site.

  • i really wish this made a shred of sense to me...

  • @AvatarRoku22 Oh dear! Take a look at my site, there's loads of theory lessons that will help you understand what the hell I'm talking about...

  • Excellent lesson. You held my interest through-out (which is not easy)! LOL

  • I used this website and improved lots just check out my old videos in comparison to my new ones if your wondering if you should stick to it.

  • are there different scales pattern for types of music like blues, rock etc.?

  • i love your lesson... continue please (:

You are my hero man! :D

  • I think im going to have to revise this a few times but i do see the relaitionship between chords and scales for sure from your info. There's alot more info in there than just that to take in so another look later without chucking the top cogs into overdrive. Thanks

  • @Stringyheads Take your time. It's one of those things that becomes clearer and clearer as you keep learning scales, chords and other theory. It will all come together. This video was just about making you aware of this relationship.

  • Thank you for the video
