Obama and the Dems squandered the powerfully needed opportunity to change decades of horrible policies, engage in positive ones, work with an engaged public after years of apathy and instead they cater to their corporate masters, the same as the repubs
They are setting us up for a massive fall. They wont get the votes & without an alternative the far right will most likely slide into office. Could we see Palinism? If so I think the country will stop its circling and finally go down the drain
Only a liar can say that the healthcare bill has no liberal causes in it, only a bitter liar can stay at home and let the republicans win because the bill was not perfect.
As pissed off as I am about the democrats failure over health care reform. I'm most likely still going to begrudgingly show up and vote for them. Why? Because I think it would be far worse for the country if the republicans were voted back into power. Consider it the lesser of two evils.
However, I will ditch the democratic party the second I am given a viable progressive party. I'm hoping the republican party will drift into obscurity and a progressive party will rise in its place.
So vote third party! Let's turn this oligarchy into a democracy! Write in Nader for 2012! Left AND right, both are trying to destroy us, so let's try something no one has ever done before.
I must admit Cenk, Ever since this Health scam went through I have decided, for the first time EVER, NOT to show up and vote. gbait, if you think Obama is a leftist, then you have ZERO idea of the differences between moderates and progressives. Obama is very moderate, much more so than for my liking. He is definitely left fiscally, but moderate socially. I want a progressive in office!

In the election, you see, the democrats only gained a small majority in the House and Senate, and there were enough republicans and democrats who opposed the bill to delay and dither on the reform bill, especially public option.
Bi-partisanship, an electoral promise, is all well and good on paper, but turns out to be an empty dream when one side decides that they don't care.
"Bi-partisanship" in purely practical terms is merely how Belligerent Crypto-Calvinist Republican Imperialists and Corporate Fascist Democrat Imperialists agree on the next war.
"crazy Tea Party people".....care to clarify or qualify that statement? I would be willing to submit that the vast majority of "crazy Tea Party people" are your average middle class, hard working, college educated suburbanite people. I wouldn't quite classify them as "crazy". Unless working for everything you have is "crazy"....
You misunderstand me I think. The new crazy is working for everything you have. The new normal is working for everything you need and working for everything your neighbor needs. College educated suburbanite people's new purpose is to redouble efforts because you have to carry more than yourself now, you have to carry the downtrodden. Now is when you have to dig in your heels because the needy will take what they need unless you give it to them. It's an old story called revolution.
JCJ77 is on meth again. The new crazy is INHERITING multiple fiascos from 8 yrs of Bush, who created the pile of shit we face now, and then blaming Obama for not INSTANTLY cleaning it all up. 2 failed, ongoing, unpaid for wars, solving the near-Depression, undoing the Bush-doubling of the Natl Debt to $12 trillion, putting 50 million back to work, solving the still toxic bank assets, and keeping the new GOP-minority Congress from trying to finish the job of destroying what's left of this nation.
The only way to solve our problems is just what the Obama ordered. Take what Bush did and escalate it: losing the wars send more troops, Bush said we needed a bailout and Obama voted "me too", Bush stimulus might have been a crime but Lord Barry dropped one too (and maybe another) so it's all fine and dandy, jobs! we don't need no stinking jobs when we have Cap and Trade to pass (we hear E.L.F. is hiring again), Bush is still the president only he's more handsome and a better public speaker.
Americans have to go after the Corporations. The Corporations are one of the causes of the problem in this country. They want power and control! Everyday, they lobby at the White House to get what they want! It is up to Americans to stand up for themselves against the system. Just voting a figure head is not going to do any good!
The Best in the world has given you what? America has 50th in life expectancy, barely above Communist, Dirt Poor Cuba. An infant mortality rate that is higher than most nations with universal healthcare, and you are paying DOUBLE for the privelege.
@dangerouslytalented i didnt say best in the world in healthcare. i said best in world. Infant mortality rate isnt the only thing that healthcare deals with. Other countries have shitty healthcare, and thats why america does't have it.
Cuba also has a higher literacy rate than the US.
But it is even higher proportionately than the official figures, for the US literacy figures are, like most other US statistical data, cooked, while Cuba's are accurately collected and presented.
its oddly kind of nice to see someone as frustrated as i have been...cenk, excellent points as usual.. it feels almost like a hopeless cause sometimes but im still hanging on, hoping to see a turn around. and hey if not soon, then i guess im going to have to start considering europe or canada.?
Washington is so far removed from reality, it's scary. do you people watch their campaign commercials? they're hokey and worse, void of any real messages. anyone who believed that they would actually change things, was a rube. politics has never been anything more than an illusion of choice. we don't have any, they don't care, and they know we can't do anything about it. no matter who gets into office, the same people steal all the tax dollars. why is anyone surprised?
So many excellent points made in this video... And I'm getting so tired of being let down by my elected leaders. When are we going to see some real, positive change?
Yes, there is the possibility of a pimp hand. But remember Obama's mother was a little white Protestant Kansas anthropologist who thought that village trade was "proto-capitalism" and who worked in microfinance.
And he really did not know his father who was Kenyan.
Anyway even if he is no more than a coffee-colored piece of furniture, he takes up a space that would otherwise be McCain or Palin or Romney or Gingrich, etc.
And there is going to be no one else except a Right Winger who can win that place in 2012.
It's true. The liberals sure aren't going to vote Republican. I'm sure a good GOTV can get those disaffected to go out and vote. Just make them so afraid of the GOP "boogeyman" they won't be able to take the chance and stay home.
Does anyone think that both sides are maybe working together to move the left more to the right and the right even more to the right. Change our spectrum of options.
Or they'll have a "get out the vote" campaign. They'll say patronizing things about us like how we don't respect the democratic traditions of our country.
We need some sort of system by which politicians are actually personally rewarded for doing the will of the people, some way to offset the rewards of following the will of corporations and special interest groups with deep pockets.
Cuz politicians WON'T be cut off from money; the only way to get 'em to behave is to make doing the right thing more lucrative and thus more attractive.
Don't know what that solution might be, but I don't see any other way out of this kinna shit.
You missed my point entirely...that's what they have NOW; I want something similar for the common citizen, for them to do the will of the VOTERS, not the special interest groups or the corporations.
An interesting topic, Empress--but hard to discuss properly on youtube. The obverse is addressing others in the third person, which ranges back to Latin practice in the Fourth Century AD and survives in several Romance languages.
conventional wisdom points to the right because that's where the lobby money is baited!!!
take a wild guess!!!
with only 50/51 gops at the time...who else voted for the war, patriot act, warrantless surveillance, taxcuts, privatizations, deregulations, bailouts, etc.?
i've renounced my affiliations with the democratic party!!!
The problem with the host's presentation here is he uses the word liberal when he means socialist, at least as defined in American politics. Nowhere evident are the liberal posits of laissez-faire economics and liberties or limited goverment. Also, evidently change you can believe in is really politics Chicago style applied nationally. Some of the benefits will be before 2012, but 98% don't until 2014, which is why the vote has to happen right now, before someone reads what is actuallygoingon
yes. EXACTLY. that's what we need. a giant THIRD PARTY. that's what usually happens when the needs of the people aren't met. and we can call it, the PUBLIC party. Im serious a third party would convince the democrats how serious this issue is and force them to adopt our platform and some of our issues.
@pboisei YES. EXACTLY. We need a third party focused on the public option. We can call it the PUBLIC party. if we can get enough people into this party it'll force the democrats in congress to take the issue seriously and fight for it. They may even adopt some of our platform. That's how the populists and the silverites got their issues recognized.
As far as I know the Greens advocate universal heathcare.. I may vote green in all upcoming elections, the dems have shown us no loyalty and are compramising with the republicans, who shafted us for a DECADE!
also..
It looks as if the "tea baggers" will break into a third party as well. which is good becuase it breaks up the republican party.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
a better question is how do you turn democrats; who are sympathetic to the ideals of nazism, and communism, into real americans who idolize christ, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness
The solution is to end lobbying. They know what we want. They just don't want to give it to us. They keep the corporate masters happy and screw us. The whole fake debate is just to keep us from uniting against all of them.
I would ask Cenk to take this discursion to another level. Stop this dichotomy between Democrats and Republican. Democrats and republicans suck and it is time to talk about real alternatives.
@mynameisbobtoo I think maybe it is possible to unite part of progressives on the democratic party with others left parties and come with a strong 'Social Democratic Party'. I don't know... it is alternative that needs to be build.
@brunodemoura I would like to see a young soldier run for Office, as a retired combat vet I know a majority of prior combat service members would be very hesitant to go to war as a first option. I would back a young enlisted member and not an officer over the rank of 0-5 as beyond that they would be "plugged in"
A young soldier who has served his/ her country and sees things from the point of view from the young Grunt.

@MongoloidBabyUSA The whole video is based on the lie that people support national health care, disquised as the "public option".
When people are asked about a "public option", it sounds good until you tell them that it means higher taxes and government control.
The other FALSE assumption is dems won by being against the war.
They won on CHANGE that Obama lied about. There is no transparentcy. JUST more socialism, THAT is why they will lose in 2010.

Remove all the connections to moneyed interests and lobbying groups and start again.
There are some on either side who have the better interests of people at heart, but let's face it, those at the top of either party aren't.

Kucinich plan is to declare the whole population the risk pool and establish a non-profit Federal Corporation as the insurer.
Because of the size of the risk pool, basic coverage might cost $200 per person per year.
That would help the economy.
For profit Health insurance averages about $7000 per person a year.
This bill is a total botch and the few Progressives among the Democrats should deepsix it now.

"middle class"--they mean not black, brown, red, yellow, immigrants, or poor.
"suburbanite people" = white, as in rural Ohio where the KKK goes under names such as "
Rotary Club."

You first.
angelandsaint 2 years ago
@angelandsaint
JCJ77 2 years ago
JCJ77 is on meth again. The new crazy is INHERITING multiple fiascos from 8 yrs of Bush, who created the pile of shit we face now, and then blaming Obama for not INSTANTLY cleaning it all up. 2 failed, ongoing, unpaid for wars, solving the near-Depression, undoing the Bush-doubling of the Natl Debt to $12 trillion, putting 50 million back to work, solving the still toxic bank assets, and keeping the new GOP-minority Congress from trying to finish the job of destroying what's left of this nation.
medartist01 2 years ago
The mess Bush and Cheney created is almost tmindbogglng.
For all that Obama as Bush Lite is moving in all the wrong directions.
His advisors are aiming at status quo ante which is not only not possible but lunacy.
mopsius 2 years ago
The only way to solve our problems is just what the Obama ordered. Take what Bush did and escalate it: losing the wars send more troops, Bush said we needed a bailout and Obama voted "me too", Bush stimulus might have been a crime but Lord Barry dropped one too (and maybe another) so it's all fine and dandy, jobs! we don't need no stinking jobs when we have Cap and Trade to pass (we hear E.L.F. is hiring again), Bush is still the president only he's more handsome and a better public speaker.
JCJ77 2 years ago
Americans have to go after the Corporations. The Corporations are one of the causes of the problem in this country. They want power and control! Everyday, they lobby at the White House to get what they want! It is up to Americans to stand up for themselves against the system. Just voting a figure head is not going to do any good!

And just out of curiosity, why do people confuse Healthcare reform with Healthcare Insurance reform? two completely different things.
yambag71 2 years ago
All of the problems basically break down to politicians making descisions based on their careers and their buddies....ALL politicians.
yambag71 2 years ago
why don't americans what a decent health service like the rest of the developed world.
greenfly37 2 years ago 2
@greenfly37 because our country is already the best in the world. we don't need the other countries shitty methods to try to improve it.
sidstille 2 years ago
The Best in the world has given you what? America has 50th in life expectancy, barely above Communist, Dirt Poor Cuba. An infant mortality rate that is higher than most nations with universal healthcare, and you are paying DOUBLE for the privelege.
dangerouslytalented 2 years ago
@dangerouslytalented i didnt say best in the world in healthcare. i said best in world. Infant mortality rate isnt the only thing that healthcare deals with. Other countries have shitty healthcare, and thats why america does't have it.
sidstille 2 years ago
Best in the world? If America IS the best in the world, then there is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE to not have the best healthcare too.
dangerouslytalented 2 years ago
It is point of religious doctrine, the US is "best in the world" in everything, by definition.
mopsius 2 years ago
Cuba also has a higher literacy rate than the US.
But it is even higher proportionately than the official figures, for the US literacy figures are, like most other US statistical data, cooked, while Cuba's are accurately collected and presented.

OK OK listen Man Obama Is either Another Piece Of Shit politician Or He Need To Learn How To Use A pimp Hand. THIS SHIT RIDICULOUS
MJGWASHERE 2 years ago 3
Yes, there is the possibility of a pimp hand. But remember Obama's mother was a little white Protestant Kansas anthropologist who thought that village trade was "proto-capitalism" and who worked in microfinance.
And he really did not know his father who was Kenyan.
So he may not even know what a pimp hand is.

It is also possibile Obama is simply a mask.
Some people are.
He flashes as Narcissist to be sure.
He so pretty, he so pretty.
mopsius 2 years ago
Anyway even if he is no more than a coffee-colored piece of furniture, he takes up a space that would otherwise be McCain or Palin or Romney or Gingrich, etc.
And there is going to be no one else except a Right Winger who can win that place in 2012.
In other words:
Fuck Obama.
Obama in 2012.

It's true. The liberals sure aren't going to vote Republican. I'm sure a good GOTV can get those disaffected to go out and vote. Just make them so afraid of the GOP "boogeyman" they won't be able to take the chance and stay home.

There are a lot of sleepers among the Democrats--Pelosi, Read, Baucus, usw.
But not all of them are.
mopsius 2 years ago
Sheehan had the right idea targeting Pelosi but ran a shit, one issue campaign.
She had no program and nothing to offer the locals.
That is to be avoided if you want to win.
mopsius 2 years ago
Or they'll have a "get out the vote" campaign. They'll say patronizing things about us like how we don't respect the democratic traditions of our country.
Enochjaredson 2 years ago
We need some sort of system by which politicians are actually personally rewarded for doing the will of the people, some way to offset the rewards of following the will of corporations and special interest groups with deep pockets.
Cuz politicians WON'T be cut off from money; the only way to get 'em to behave is to make doing the right thing more lucrative and thus more attractive.
Don't know what that solution might be, but I don't see any other way out of this kinna shit.
BionicDance 2 years ago
lol they have a system its called lobbyist! They are whole companies payed by diff intrest groups to do exactly what you described.
pboisei 2 years ago
You missed my point entirely...that's what they have NOW; I want something similar for the common citizen, for them to do the will of the VOTERS, not the special interest groups or the corporations.
BionicDance 2 years ago
mopsius made a proposal a long time ago to have the Congress and White House transferred to Federal Prisons.
The politicians are elected and have to do all their legislative and executive buiness in prison.
If they act honestly they are let out at the end of their term.
If not, consider the transportation expenses save.
Just transfer them to a non-legislative or non-executive cell.
mopsius 2 years ago
Okay, I like that solution. :)
BionicDance 2 years ago
X is elected. X sells out to Y. BionicDance says find a system to reward X more than Y so that X will do what he was elected to you.
Wow--sort of like buying off your own politicians before anyone else does?
mopsius 2 years ago
Well, I wish they'd do the right thing for its own sake, but since that's a pipe dream, do YOU see any other choice?

Another proposal is to have Disney construct an animatronic House, Senate, and Presidency.
mopsius 2 years ago
Heh. Does it have to be Disney?
BionicDance 2 years ago
No, you're right. The Japanese now do it better.
mopsius 2 years ago
Another solution is to engineer a disease vector that takes effect immediately when a politician's term ends.
For example, Senator X is elected and injected with the six year vector.
If he or she does the job honestly you give the antidote when the term ends.
If not, you laugh as he or she turns blue.

An interesting topic, Empress--but hard to discuss properly on youtube. The obverse is addressing others in the third person, which ranges back to Latin practice in the Fourth Century AD and survives in several Romance languages.

BionicDance 2 years ago
As the Empress wishes. Indeed.
mopsius 2 years ago
You could also implant a term explosive programed to go off at the end of the term.
In that case the honest official would be given the code to defuse it when the term ends.

Americans could elect their favorite politicians from history.
Eventually it would end in civil war.
Then start over.

The problem with the host's presentation here is he uses the word liberal when he means socialist, at least as defined in American politics. Nowhere evident are the liberal posits of laissez-faire economics and liberties or limited goverment. Also, evidently change you can believe in is really politics Chicago style applied nationally. Some of the benefits will be before 2012, but 98% don't until 2014, which is why the vote has to happen right now, before someone reads what is actuallygoingon

coffee396 2 years ago
yes. EXACTLY. that's what we need. a giant THIRD PARTY. that's what usually happens when the needs of the people aren't met. and we can call it, the PUBLIC party. Im serious a third party would convince the democrats how serious this issue is and force them to adopt our platform and some of our issues.
NWANN91 2 years ago
Where is the GREEN party when you need them.?!
pboisei 2 years ago
@pboisei YES. EXACTLY. We need a third party focused on the public option. We can call it the PUBLIC party. if we can get enough people into this party it'll force the democrats in congress to take the issue seriously and fight for it. They may even adopt some of our platform. That's how the populists and the silverites got their issues recognized.
THUMBS UP if you think this is a good idea.
NWANN91 2 years ago
As far as I know the Greens advocate universal heathcare.. I may vote green in all upcoming elections, the dems have shown us no loyalty and are compramising with the republicans, who shafted us for a DECADE!
also..
It looks as if the "tea baggers" will break into a third party as well. which is good becuase it breaks up the republican party.

@brunodemoura I would like to see a young soldier run for Office, as a retired combat vet I know a majority of prior combat service members would be very hesitant to go to war as a first option.
