  • Wow this is amazingly beautiful. I wish I could learn how to produce this kind of sound. I'm glad I found your channel. You're a great inspiration to beginners like me.

  • @leohammondb3 Likewise.

In my book you are certainly not a beginner. You are a top notch artist & inspiration as well - great singer & player and I'm honoured to be a subscriber. Thanks for the great comments.

  • how do you get the percusion too sound so ambient???

  • @KeithMMeldrum Well one thing I didn't mention in any of my last comments is that the entire percussion is from Spectrasonics Stylus RMX - where individual hits were modified (notes and velocity to suit) and EQ automation applied. Hope this helps.

  • how do you get that ambient drum sound at 0:48

  • @KeithMMeldrum If I remember correctly those were sounds from the 'Metamorphosis' library from Spectrasonics Stylus RMX. See also reply to your other question. :-)

  • Looking back on my comments I think I should take in that there are similarities and differences in the way each musician works. I remember a quote from pianist Gyorgy Sandor 'Please don't think for a moment that unless you do exactly as I say that you can't be a great pianist. There are many artists who achieve excellent results who play very differently from me'

So the way I should have put it is 'this is how I do it, someone else may be different'. That said, advertising vid to follow soon.

  • nice how do you make it sound so good?

  • @KeithMMeldrum (1)Cheers m8. Don't know what to say lol, - I will be doing a few tutorials but at this stage not too many.

I try to make things sound as good as I can by taking my time deciding which sounds to use and mixing as I go - boosting or cutting certain EQ frequencies or things like fattening up the bass by mild distortion. I also think it's important to mix using flat freq. monitors / headphones to apply EQ appropriately, while checking on different speaker systems, even crappy ones.

  • @KeithMMeldrum (2) - Also it's important to be patient and take regular breaks. I have some projects that I think 'hmm don't think this is working yet. I won't trash it but I'll put it aside and maybe work on it later'. It's amazing how I have a different idea on a project once I have left it for a while.

Of course if you're working to a deadline you just have to take all you know and compress the time to work at a project - even then you may go back to it and think 'hey this could do with...

  • @KeithMMeldrum (3)... this sound here' or something. There's still plug-ins in Logic I have yet to explore as well.

I have a few duds on my HD, but in them there are some ideas that I'd explore at a later time.

Anyway, cheers for the rating. I will be doing a 'Mac vs PC - conflicts vs resolutions' vid next, then spend a lot of time writing new tracks (25 minimum) & doing stuff with them. More tracks = more tutorials along the way.

Looking forward to some more great stuff from you as well.

  • @KeithMMeldrum (4) Also I might be asking you and others for advice as well, as listening to your last track you certainly know your stuff - I think it's important for all of us to learn from others while keeping certain things for an individual sound.

Another video I'll upload later is about other acts for recommended viewing... food for thought.

    Thanks again.

  • haha, sick! thumbs up.

  • @bobblewobblesqueeg Cheers m8.

  • Hey thanks for letting me know man yeah YouTube is crazy but maybe it's because I use my iPhone to watch videos, I don't have a regular connection unfortunately anyways I secretly just wanted to listen to this beat again lol peace bro

  • No worries, anytime :-)

  • Street*

  • I thumbed this up man this reminds me of walking down a lonely steer in the city but like there's hope on the other side idk just what I thought about lol. Can't wait for your next vids bro peace

  • @Zombiebrainstew Cheers for the rating :-)

  • This is bad ass bro I don't know what else to add that you already haven't. To me those heavy drums sounded sick as loud as they are right now I loved that. You mixed it perfectly bro

  • @Zombiebrainstew Cheers m8. Trust me those drums will still be up close and impersonal lol. And you have also described exactly what I was thinking when I had the idea for this - driving maybe, but you def. nailed it br0 esp the hope part. Thanks for the great comments.

  • Amazing as always Jeremy :D!!!!!!!!!

  • @Hodgeinator55 Cheers m8. Must record you playing soon.

  • Just so everyone knows I'm going to start using terms like 'm8', 'bro', 'me ole mucka', and other niceties as well as 'my friend' in my videos - sometimes if I have made more than one comment to one person I may not use any. Just so no one gets offended or left out if I don't. It's hard to tell when you're on the internets.

  • Not surprised, Genius @ work.. Another master pice

    Wouldn't mind having this west

  • @wizie01 sure wizie my friend, no problem - I'll send it to you this weekend. Thanks also for the compliment - not sure what to say lol. I can just hear Wesley Snipes saying to me 'Can you blush' :-)

Anyway - consider it done. I'll be interested to see what you make of it. Looking forward to more superb stuff from you as well.

  • Holy cow my friend! This really shows your unique and intuitive powerhandling of music (and Logic) - very very impressive and thought-through percussion mastering which leaves me in awe! You are truly a genuine musician with skills beyond my imagination. Complete and utterly beautiful! I can´t wait to hear the finished product. Cheers my friend ;)

  • @elek3ctii Thanks my friend - no awe necessary, I think you are a true Logic master yourself.

And for anyone else reading - please go and hear elek3ctii's tracks to see what I mean - truly awesome programming. And for some superb drumming skills - chessdude67 as well.

@elek3ctii - thanks again my friend - looking forward to more uplifting tracks from you.

  • I am thinking about picking up an electronic kit soon. My tinnitus seems to be under control as long as I control the volume. I miss my maple and birch kits, but my ears can't take it anymore. Would love to lay down some drum tracks with you in the future. :-)

    Tim

  • @chessdude67 Likewise. Let me know what kit it is - I'd be interested to know if you can also record the track in some internal memory module, or if you can have different elements of the kit having different sends etc. Maybe let me know the name of the kit.

  • @Westsound191 Thank you my friend. I've been with Roland for years. I did own one of their big electronic kits years ago. I'm sure I can use any sounds from Logic and the 5 jam packs. I'm 90% sure I'll be back on a kit in 2011. I can't live in fear anymore. Drumming did NOT cause my Tinnitus. Meds for sinus infections did.

    I'll be back! :-)

    Tim

  • @chessdude67 Pleased to hear the Tinnitus is under control bro.

Just to let you know the reason for me asking about the outputs / recording drums is so that I can apply different treatments to individual drum sounds - for example delay designer for claps, reverb for 1 in every 4 snares, frequency automation for electronic hi-hats and so on. See you again, my friend. :-)

  • Jeremy,

I did listen to this through my Rokit monitors and it sounded beautiful! Everything sounded very moving to me. Your music took me to driving a sports car late at night with your music playing. As I pass by blurred lights of LA or Miami....My mind is free from all worries and I sit back in my car and enjoy this beautiful moment in the now... of freedom....Hard to put into words....

So, I dig it! Going into my favorites. 5 stars for your talent.

    Peace,

    Tim

  • @chessdude67 Cheers my friend - your continued support is always appreciated.

You hit the nail right there... it was the image I was imagining. When I have completed the track I will upload an image (indeed with all those glass buildings etc lol) and there will be a credit to you for passing on the idea.

And yes I really look forward to doing some collaboration tracks with you as well. Let me know when you get your new kit & maybe we can work on some tracks.

    All the best - Jeremy

  • This is indeed Hollywood quality audio!! It sounds very very Good! WHat kind of machine you are running this on?

  • @biggareid Cheers my friend. I'm running Logic Pro on a Macbook Pro i7 (2010). I'm using carefully selected & edited sounds from Spectrasonics Stylus RMX + the S.A.G.E. expanders. Many tracks were sent to different busses + all were mastered using iZotope oZone4. Hope this helps & thanks for your great comments.

  • Nice. To me...drums can never be too loud. LOL

  • @GlockNinja Thanks my friend. Yeah, I hope they should still cut the mix even when the other elements are in. ;-)

  • very nice indeed =]

  • @a5mcclelland Cheers my friend.
